Sal has been to my place once - It was one of the slowest days at my apartment. But if he had been here this week, it would be a different story. It didn't occur to me that this week is one of the most congested weeks of the year here because it's two weeks before classes start - so parents usually like to get there kids shipped out and settled in before classes. Anyway - I've been settled for a while now, and I'm ready to celebrate.

As a token to my comfort zone finally being reached, I have decided to host my usual summer pool and grill party - I didn't think it would happen this summer, but stuff changed and it's happening. And yes, North Carolinian's LOVE to grill. Anyway, my building is a large square adjacent to the Tar River with a hollowed out middle for a generous sized pool and courtyard. (It's very nice). My window over looks it. Anyway the problem is that parking is awful sucks - Have to walk up and down a pretty ballsy hill. And all the doors except for the front require a magnetic key, which is not convenient for me to use with a crap of stuff in my hand. To avoid this I decided to park in front at the reception and haul my groceries in... (where all the parents are). Can you IMAGINE the look we got as my buddies and I hauled 3 24 packs of Icehouse passed parents with there 18 y/o freshmen daughters and sons, lol - It was pretty funny to me. I'm sure they are going to bless their children before they leave today. I also hauled up an a$$ ton of steak, beef, dogs, Bacon and eggs.. No veggies this weekend ladies.

Anyway - Lets have a beer discussion.

Ice house stinks sorry bro I'm a beer snob. Yuenglings is very good beer ironically so is Carona with out the lime ofcourse I'm a man keep the fruit out of my beer. Also the colder the beer the less flavor you can taste which makes me laugh on commercials with all the cold labels in there beer. Beer pulled out of the fridge should sit a few minuets opened. About five minuets after that it hits a good temp for drinking. The Scottish have it right they don't drink there beer cold either. When it warms up a little you get the full flavor exploding as intended by the brew master. But don't let a bad beer like coors or ice house warm up I don't think you want to really taste all those beers have to offer. LOL

Icehouse is something I tried for the first time, and I ended up really liking it. It goes well with cheap pizza, lol. Otherwise, yeah. I'm also a beer snob. I prefer Sam Adam, Yuenglings, Heineken, and Fosters. And who can forget Duck Rabbit (for local Carolinian's, lol)

Sam Adam's is real good beer I agree you know I keep for getting to try Duck Rabbit I buy my beer on post cheaper no taxes I don't think I've seen it in there. Carona isn't crap it has a full flavor to it but it is different, I like to drink it to break things up. Let it warm up and don't put lime in it and it's not bad.

Sam Adam's ain't cheap - thats probably why, lol. I had a few of my friends try to indoctrinate me with how superior Corona was, and I just can't stand it. If I want a beer that will kill my appetite for a 2nd, I'll drink a Corona.

Yuengling is good but I prefer Landshark.

I've heard GOOD things about Landshark - And it's funny you mention that.. I'm actually wearing a 'Landshark' shirt right now. For your enjoyment.

There's nothing like a good ol Fosters 25oz oil can after doing some yard work!

My "beers i like" list is very long. I've drank so much Yuengling in my day that it no longer appeals to me (but its still a great beer, so if its there it'll get slammed back).

Dos Equis Amber is probably one of my favorite beers. I just love the flavor.

And if I'm grilling a good steak, I have to pick up some Boddingtons Pub Ale pints!!

Also love some Guiness/Bass black&tans (oh man, they just go down too smooth.... i get in trouble when i drink those!)

.... im getting thirsty...

Landshark is brewed by Anheuser Busch all they know how to make is piss beer..

For the sake of discussion, how about some Redhook ESB, Sierra Navada Pale Ale, or Dogfish Head Burton Baton. The Burton Baton might in the running for my all-time favorite beer, but I've only had it once, so I feel the need to find it again and verify.

NeilSmith
08-11-2011, 05:23 PM
Landshark is supposedly still brewed in Jacksonville, from what I saw Jimmy Buffet say the other day, just using AB as a marketer / distributor / business partner thing. Eventually, Im sure AB will take over and it will be either dissolved completely or will become just another Budweiser.

Sal-XK
08-11-2011, 06:07 PM

Guiness and Coronoa are just awful... Guiness is the Irish version of the American Budweiser. Just... just awful beer. Now... The Irish do make some tasty beers. I would like to start with Smithwicks - It's just really hearty beer you can TASTE. If we removed the Locals, and considered only large distributers Smithwicks makes it in my top 10 easily.

Matt
08-11-2011, 06:27 PM
Smithwicks is very tasty. I'd also put Killians Irish Red up there with it in the "enjoyment of taste" spectrum.

Guiness isn't for everyone... but its not even close to the crap that Budweiser is. That's like saying "scotch is crap" because you don't like the taste... it just means you're not a scotch drinker.

hoaxci5
08-11-2011, 06:28 PM
Guinness is actually pretty low in alcohol content too, it's only in the 4.~ish range.. it does go down pretty easy though.

As far as Guinness to Budweiser comparison, from a showing of beer quality for said country I agree, but Guinness is leaps and bounds better than Budweiser.

Matt
08-11-2011, 06:30 PM
Ah... maybe i missed the analogy there...

I like Miller light cause it is cheap and has a bit of taste to it. But if I am out and feeling like something else I'll get a Smidicks (smithwicks) I do like Killians. Havent had it in a while. I will try anything but it doesnt mean Ill like it. Duck Rabbit is gross.

depends on where i am drinking.
At home, in a bottle
At work, my coffe cup.
At the bar, cans
At a restaurant, tap in a glass
At the wheel, in the back seat in a cooler waiting for me to get where I am going.
But not ice cold,

hoaxci5

I generally do draft or bottle. Cans are only if it's free :) I don't complain when someone hands me a beer doesn't matter what it is.. I'm not an unappreciative beer yuppy.

edit: There are a select few microbrews that have been doing cans, but when I think of cans it's generally the american sake piss beer..

Matt
08-14-2011, 04:50 AM
I'm not very picky...

if im in a bar i'll get draft, if they dont have what i want on tap ill get a bottle.
if im home, bottle or can works. I usually get my yard work / garage work drinks in cans (MGD, etc) because its easier to have more of them "in stock" without taking too much room in the fridge. And I get bottles for the higher end stuff (most of which doesn't come in cans anyway...)

Sal-XK

It is smooth. Its just that head. Packed full of flavor. I can throw back some Miller though.
My friend actually said that coors, bud, and Miller light all taste the same. No
Coors light-Tastes like an apple juice
Bud Light- has a good spice note but isn't full of flavor.
Miller Light- is a nice smooth finish and full of flavor.

If this is a competition of Domestic Light beer. Natural Light and Yuengling Light owns all of those

I never said Miller lite was the best beer out there.... its what I had in the fridge stocked up from football (good beer in combination with hot wings and pizza and a lot of guests). I have nothing against Miller, I can toss them back.... but they just don't compare to a quality beer. Henceforth, the Miller I was drinking became a lot less appetizing when Dan posted the picture of boddingtons.... its kind of like eating a tasty sandwich and then someone shows you a picture of a delicious steak.... the sandwich, albeit tasty, just doesn't have the same draw.

Kinda more fun to be the stupid drunk friend, lol. Which I'm glad I have now got most of that out of my system.

Matt, lol - You would have loved my party's. As you know.. success of a party is largely effected by the people. But of course, you must also know the people are largely effected by the beer. Consequently, the beer must NOT be anything less than exceptional.

The last party I ever held I was a graduating senior. I wanted it done right. I spent 350 dollars in beer, liquor, tequila, and whiskey.

Same here! And parties were just as good IMHO without nice beer. Who knows though, it seemed all the girls drank Natty, Jungle juice, or Popov poured into Goose bottles (they never could tell the difference) so we were rock stars on a budget. Gotta admit, those were some fun times

Matt
09-15-2011, 05:12 PM
blah... i just couldn't stand the taste of natty, beast, etc. When i drink beer its not for the sole purpose of getting plastered... i like to get a little buzz & chill out with my friends, play some drinking games/etc.

I found that the parties with the cheapest beer were usually the parties where everyone got plastered and were either passed out or throwing up all over the place by midnight. Whereas the parties with slightly "better" taste in beer would go aaaallllll night. You'd have the few bad apples getting sick and passing out, but for the most part everyone was buzzed to slightly drunk and would have a great time.

With all that said.... ive been drinking too much beer this summer and not exercising as much as im used to (barely riding my bike once a week).... soooo, i've turned to my #1 favorite non-beer drink :)

lol - You know I get each of these posts in an e-mail. And I miss nothing, lol. You know... Desiring only the best has it's downs ya know. For example..You sometimes wish you had the same excitement for cheap beer that you now have in excellent beer. You wish you could sometimes feel buzzed off a couple 5% beers. You've become so accustomed to great taste that you wish you could find the same satisfaction in anything. 'Good' parties become harder to find with elevated taste. You are so turned off by dull beer that you'd settle for water, milk, a fuzzy naval... really anything.

Having a desire for great taste does have it's downside... see!!! You have LESS options. But someone has to do it. Someone has to take one for the team.

Life and a Can of Beer

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions--things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.

The sand is everything else--the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal.

"Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."
