I got the sliders and bumper all painted up and re-installed my tow hooks making them stronger. I also got my vent shades in today so I threw them on I know people usually make this one of the first mods but I'm just getting around to them now LOL

Ya I'll see what I can get without removing the bumper. Pretty much used a thick piece of steel on the inside of the crash can to help spread the load out.

Threw on some new OEM rubber stemmed tpms sensors today (Dorman sent them to me because I still had a strange tpms warning come up once in a while even though their sensors were reading "seemingly" fine).

Happy to have rubber stems now though... a bit safer for offroading.

Well i finally fixed my passenger side mirror "shake".... that was driving me nuts yesterday since I had the XK packed to the brim with my kids xmas presents, so i was paying more attention to my side mirrors since my rearview was out of commission.

About to head out to pick up some CB antenna mounting stuff so I can get my XK wired now

While at Camp Commander 2011 I shorted out a wire in my dash and lost power to the radio, CB, brake controller and a few other toys. Today I pulled the dash found a wire that had rubbed the coating off, taped it up and back in service.

Going to spend the night sitting in the Commander at the Tempe Block Party! :)

I wouldn't know how big of a difference there is between 3:73 and 3:88 is that enough to cause issues?
i dont know how finicky these computers on the jeeps are, but i know when i throw on the "slicks" on the gto, it freaks out the abs sensor cause they're taller than the oem tire.

Sal-XK

As long as your tires are all he same size it's no problem with the abs system.

A number of things could cause this. Are you saying that the driver rear, both inner & outer pads were worn down... or was it one or the other that was worn down excessively?

Plastic dissipates heat better. Aluminum transfers more heat but cools quickly. I think plastic is better but would like to hear thoughts on both pros and cons.

Plastic is too generic a term to describe the building materials - I K&N, i believe, is using Polyethylene though for the cheaper version. But there must be a reason why the Aluminum yields SLIGHTLY better results.

Nice install....I cant recall mine being that clean....

Thanks. I wish the instructions were more clear. I'm not very mechanically inclined at all but figured I couldn't get into too much trouble so I dove in head first.

I was looking into this one, I was also looking into the one with the aluminum. I'd love to hear of your feedback on it.

It is the 63. I was looking at the aluminum one as well (77 I think) and the only difference is the aluminum tube. I didn't want chrome under the hood so I went with this one. I have only driven it on surface streets so I haven't gotten the speed up yet. There was a noticeable change in torque when I hit the gas. No change in sound. If you get one do yourself a favor and put all the brackets and whatnot on the heat shield in the house where its warm and you can watch football. The instructions have you remove the OEM tube and air box and THEN attach stuff to the heat shield. If you do that first you can yank the crap out and get right to installing. Simple hand tools: Flat head screwdriver, 8mm and 10mm sockets, 10 mm and 7/16 wrenches.

This is the first step in making the 3.7 breath a little better and sound a little meaner. Next step is a FLowmaster exhaust.

The exterior pad worn more than the interior pad?

Inside wore faster

Matt
01-09-2012, 06:38 AM
Inside wore faster

There's two common reasons the inside wears faster:
1) The slides are severely siezed to where the caliper piston can't overcome them, which makes the inside pad do all the work. Probably not the case here since you would have noticed stuck sliders when you changed the pads.
2) The inner pad is getting stuck in the arbor. So when the caliper releases, the pad is still riding up against the rotor.

.... and then any combination of the two with varying severity.

The remedy is to (if you haven't already done so) clean the arbor and slides really well and regrease. Upon assembly make sure that the pads can move freely in the arbor and that the caliper moves freely (side to side) when both slides are attached. NOTE: that last step is important. I've seen many instances where the slides move freely on their own, but once the caliper is installed the assembly "jams"... this is normally caused by damage; either the arbor or the caliper get tweaked from an impact which throws off the parallelism of the slides/caliper so the assembly can't move freely.

Dropped off to get the windshield replaced along with some body damage from sliding off a road on ice. Nothing major. The 2nd day of our major snow here in WA (@ my house we got 22" of snow over a 3 day period, had a blast in it) I had a friend that was stuck in a ditch on a steep driveway. After getting him taken care of & on my way home I hit ice on a turn & hit a post on a corner. You can't tell any that I hit anything except that the parking & fog light do not work & I think the wheel sensor on that corner is out. I have been driving it for a week like that & its fine . Now that the snow is mostly gone I will get all fixed before it snows again the following week.

Along with that will have it detailed

Should have it back next week.

I replaced the drivers side inner and outer tie rods tonight. I feel bad for anyone that wasted anywhere from $600 to over a grand to replace their entire steering rack because they were told you cant get the inner tie rods separately. It took me about 45 minutes to do the install. I could have done it faster but wanted to make sure the new tie rods were the exact same length as the old so I can hold off on the alignment until I order the JBA UCA's. The steering is nice and tight again and no more clunking noises!

Oil, lube, & filter day. I live RIGHT next to my work, so my daily commuting mileage is... 20' to work - 20' home. I rare exceed 7k miles a year on my vehicle. Oil change was due on 1/28, and I still had less than 1,700 miles on the oil when I changed it today.

Nonetheless, the Valvoline Oil Change place suckered me into the fuel injection cleaning procedure, and boy was she SMOKIN' after that!!!:eek::eek: The South Hills of Pittsburgh have NOW been properly fogged for mosquitoes!!!

I'll top off the tank with some 93 octane tomorrow though, and see how she runs!

LMAO thats good man! just to add that its been my experience low mileage vehicles that don't get opened up from time to time develope issues of ther own man. That fuel cleaner was probably a good idea and maybe some sea foam will help you out. I would at least a few times a month get that thing screaming to 5k on the tach. I've seen major carbon build up in the engine from cars that were driven very short and slow before IMHO of course

Picked up a 01 (economy model) accord from the in-laws last month... so the XK is no longer a DD. It's a bit of a pita swapping car seats (especially since i havent been getting home until after 11PM every night for the past week)

I ordered some electronic goodies to make my life easier I hope for my cross country tow trip. I plan to install a rear view camera on my trailer and got a small monitor to mount on the dash so I can see whats going on around me, the monitor has dual video inputs, so I plan to install a second camera on the XK that will be on always instead of only when in reverse.

Most of them kinda do this already, or so I thought. My Nav unit obviously comes on automatically in reverse. But I can also go into my video feed and select the rear camera at any time. I typically do this a lot when I'm parked in an unfamiliar area and I'd like to keep a close eye on everything around me. I also turn it on when I'm wheeling so i can see obstacles behind me.

I've got factory NAV/rear camera, and without a lockpic I have no control over it. I thought about probing some wires to see if I could throw a switch in to trick the rearview into turning on, but I just don't have the time right now, so the extra camera was less hassle. Maybe once my trip/move is over I'll dig into it a little more and have a front camera and switchable stock rear camera.

Yes, I had to call them to order it. I too looked on their website but didnt see a listing for it. It's adjustable from 1-6 inches of lift so if you decide to install a Superlift at a later date it will work perfect without having to use all those damn brackets they send in their kit! The best part about it is my rear axle is finally centered.

Ok thanks man I'll give them a call. Coming out of a parking space\ditch yesterday the rear flexed so much my drive shaft hit the fuel tank again :( These longer shocks I put in back put me at almost 4" of lift so I'm tearing up my tires as well a little bit. Wife wasn't happy HAHAHAHAHHAH but I need to get this to keep from tearing stuff up.

Maybe you shouldnt have removed your rear sway bar. That would help limit the amount of flex that you have and possibly stop the drive shaft from hitting the gas tank. But the adjustable track bar will definitely help that issue by centering the axle.

Its very easy to do but I learned the hard way when I was messing around with the front end last year. Once you take off the tire, the next thing you want to do is take off the large cv axle nut with an air compressor prior to taking the brakes or anything else off. I had everything apart and then tried doing it and the nut caused the threads to strip out on a perfectly good oem cv shaft. Whoops! Now im stuck with a not so good Napa cv cause the oem were crazy expensive.

I installed my Air Flow Snorkel last night that I scored for $100 shipped! What a pain in the butt. Kurt at Air Flow America wasnt joking when he said it would take a little fabricating due to the missing parts. It took me an hour just to make my own template so I knew where to drill all of the holes in the fender. Then about another half hour was spent fabricating the A-piller bracket. The only steel I had in my garage was my bent mopar suspension skid plate so thats what I used to fab up the bracket. I still have a few more things to address under the hood and then relocate the antenna on the drivers side fender. I'll try to post some pictures tonight when I get home.

I can't wait to see it. I bet it looks awesome!

The snorkel even completely covered the hole in the fender where the antenna used to be. I was told you could still see the hole after installation so I guess I got lucky.

Finished phase 2 of the snorkel install today. Total install time was over 16 hours. If I ever install another one in the future Im going to make sure its a complete kit and not just the snorkel and head. On a good note, I definately fabricated everything from the snorkel to the air box with way better parts then the kit sells! However the XK got hacked up behind the fender pretty good in the process. Now i just need to test it

I hear ya on the HVAC lines. I'll have to wait for my first wheelin' trip to see where I get rubbing at before I make any changes.Right now I'm just trying to get my shoulder healthy again so I can get some skids and tow hooks on. So far I've just tried putting it up and down some large curbs in the area....my neighbors look at me like I should be on the short bus with a helmet on!

Not quite $450 a month... but first is the lift and I have to change the front crank seal and passenger side axle seal.
Both ever so slightly leaking.

The crank seal is pretty easy to do. I just replaced mine a few months ago with the help of my buddy Jay due to a slight leak.

No need for Jay now that I know how to do it. Ohio isnt that far away from me...lol
I think my hole turned out good. I got a little sloppy with the touch up paint though....oh well
Which lift were you referring to? I swapped out my rear Old Man Emu MD springs for some HD's and Cico bought the MD's from me. I still have my BDS 2 inch spacer lift sitting on a shelf in my garage if your interested. The spacers just need to be cleaned up and repainted. The NY salt made them rust.

I did nothing to my WK really, but I did run into some lifted XK folks.

Looked really bad this morning at the Gas station - of the 12 pumps, 6 Jeeps were filling up in them. Of those 6 Jeeps. 3 were XK/WK. Of those 3, 2 were XK. Both on a budget lift with 265/70's - we had a really good conversation, I'm sure both will swing through here and register. They were pretty interested in my skids and armor. I'm SERIOUSLY out numbered in Greenville, lol. There are now 4 lifted XK's on big meats that I see weekly. Silver, Blue, black - and a Dark Khaki on a SL.

That's weird because about ten minutes after ordering it I checked my email for unrelated reasons and the order confirmation was there and the tracking number email came a few minutes later.

What did your totals come to? The lady told me $149.60 including shipping but when I got the order confirmation it said $150.25.
