For the heat one line is feed and one is return correct? So I could just join the two hoses and move them out of the way.

Yeah... then make sure you run the heat for a while to bleed the air out. I'd cap off the other ends too.

Ok I have hose clamps can't find a coupler might have to run to the store. Do you think there is a lot of fluid back in the rear lines?

Probably a quart or two in the rear lines and heater core.

Sal-XK

It did pretty much but I might look at getting them removed as well. I'm test driving right now and seem to be running about 2-4 degrees hotter then before. What the normal operating temp? Just want to make sure I have no air and no kinks in the hose I missed.

Sal-XK

Engine coolant temp I can't monitor the trans yet :( I was idling for about 5 minuets after running 60MPH for a bit and was up to 215 sitting and about 205 running at 60MPH. I have it idling now to see how hot it gets.

Run the heat at full blast for a while to work out any air pockets that formed when you cut those lines. You may have to let it sit and cool for a while, then run it with the heat on again in the morning to purge the rest of the system.

Im good thanks man. I need to make these fit on just the 2" lift trying to keep my center of gravity as low as possible and I think the fronts are about good. I'll stuff the rears tomorrow and start on those next.

I also got my track bar installed today. I can't adjust it while it's on the jeep :( its still 1/4" off so I have to take it back off tomorrow make it longer and put it back on.

^Can't you just undo the end with the adjustment, spin it out to whatever you need and put it back on? (with the jeep on jack stands of course)

Edit: maybe not. I haven't installed one yet so who am I to speak, lol.

Not really the size wrench needed to tighten this thing I would never get it in the space available.

No I just guessed and made it longer. To get the driver side bolt out I had to jack the jeep up by the frame rail in back a little bit so the spring wood open up but you need to take the passenger bolt out first. You'll see what I mean when your down there. Just measure how it's off and make it that much longer then the stock one. You'll need to jack one side up a little to get the holes to line up once you do that as well.

Thats exactly what I did last weekend. I just took out the passenger side bolt, adjusted it and tightened it back down with a huge wrench.

I had to take my angle grinder and cut the wrench in half. Perfect fit!

If its off a 1/2 inch to the drivers side (just throwing a number out there) you want to adjust the track bar out 1/4 inch (half the distance its off to center the axle).

Matt
03-16-2012, 07:12 AM
But remember, the bar is the hypotenuse of the triangle. So 1/2" may only move the axle 1/4" over.

When I do mine I plan on measuring the actual triangle. Then some freshman geometry will tell me how far to adjust it.... hopefully get it right the first time! (Ill probably measure the height leg with gas tank almost empty and again after I fill up to give me an idea how much that will matter, quantitatively )

Matt
03-16-2012, 07:16 AM
.... or am I overthinking it (I do that often) and the angle is so shallow that 1/4" is almost 1/4"? Though I'd probably still go a bit further to account for a shallow angle and to keep the driveshaft a bit further away from the gas tank skid.... I'd rather it be 1/8" off towards the passenger side than drivers side.

Sal-XK
03-16-2012, 08:14 AM
Exactly if I'm going to be off I want it off in the other direction to keep the shaft as far from the tank as possible.

You might be correct, but I think you are overthinking it. I dont think your ever going to get it perfectly centered unless thats something they can do during alignment. I just eyed it up and got it as close as I could. No more axle hanging out farther on the drivers side!

Yes, you are overthinking this. Just get yourself the Superlift and stop worrying about all that other stuff. With all the money you spend on making corrections, a budget lift will run out like the federal budget! How many trillions are we in debt these days? Eh, oh well.

So calculate:

budget lift
corrected UCA
track bars
OME springs?
coil overs?
ball joints
whatever other goodies

= how much...?

Most here are drooling over getting a Superlift, including me. It's designed to solve geometry issues. Just pull the trigger.

Now, I know that some other aftermarket parts are beefier, etc., so you might want to get them anyway, but IMHO, starting off with the budget lifts and dumping all the extra money on top of that is kind of a waste.

Just my 0.02.

07JeepXK
03-16-2012, 08:53 AM
Unless you want a low center of gravity with huge tires like Sal and I.....lol

Matt
03-16-2012, 09:07 AM
To keep it short, the SL is anything but a complete kit IMO. I weighed the options and went with OME for the time being. The extra money I spent isn't wasted since all the parts I installed thus far would he used in conjunction with SL to improve their kit.

lekmedm
03-16-2012, 09:15 AM
OK. I'm by far no expert. I just know that often enough it's easy to start off small due to budget when you know you'll really end up going big in the end anyway. That's not just for building up Jeeps either.

Eh, what's important is that you're enjoying the XK!

Matt
03-16-2012, 09:24 AM
Lol this is my 5th or 6th vehicle (lost count) that I'm lifting.... trust me I know. Pretty sure I re-lifted my first vehicle about 8 times lmao!

If the XK had more "true" suspension lift options, I'd probably have one right now. The SL hasn't impressed me enough to pull the trigger. I'm hoping that the popularity of the WK and XK continues to rise (which it clearly has) in the offroading market and that new/better kits are produced. Even SL has improved their design in the past year, I believe in part due to 4xg's push.... so I think the trend is going in the right direction.

Sal-XK
03-16-2012, 09:32 AM
Like stated I want the smallest lift on huge tires to keep my center of gravity as low as possible. I personally don't want the SL myself if I'm going that far I'll just get a SFA :)

Your XK looks great! Glad I can help out. Just make sure you get a front end alignment now so you dont mess up your tires. Also once the suspension settles, the front may go down a hair. I dont remember getting 3.5 inches of lift out of the front.

i have the 4.7 v8. it was a little hard there's just no room. My suggestion is to remove the tire, fender flare and the inside wheel plastic peace. then remove any thing under the hood. For example driver side remove the battery and its tray then remove that hole fuse box just like you would if you were doing a lift. Then after that its still a really tight fit. Oh make sure you have a super long extension to undo the exhaust were it connects to the manifold.

I dont think so, but its way easier to share media from your phone to facebook. The only thing with the Facebook XK/WK group, is its a mix of JF, JG and TUJ members, so its lacking the "close knit" group feel from this forum.

This forum is tough to view on your phone unless you buy the tapatalk app which I probably wont buy.

Just my .02 - back to XK stuff!

Matt

fwiw, I have tapatalk and actually prefer to use dolphin browser for viewing this forum. I tried it with tapatalk for a few weeks but keep coming back to the browser....

If I want to post photos from my phone I use photobucket. Using the long-press on the home key (android OS) I can switch between photobucket and the browser directly... so I copy the image link from the pbucket app, long-press home key, enter browser and paste.

My XK was involved in a little accident yesterday while parked in my driveway. My mom went to leave my house and backed right into it. I even reminded her when she was leaving that my Jeep was behind her car and be careful not to hit it as she was backing out. Well lets just say she put her car in reverse and backed right into it. She was parked in the middle of my driveway all the way up by the garage door. The Jeep was parked about 10-12 ft behind her and off the the left side of the driveway with more than enough room to get by on the right. The XK really didnt receive any damage, just a scuff on the front bumper. The rear end of her brand new leased Subaru Legacy is all messed up.

Horrible tick!

My XK has had the tick for about two years now. It only does it when I first start it up in the morning after sitting all night and you can hear it coming from under the passenger side valve cover. Once the engine is warm it goes away. Its non exhistant in the summer too. Who knows going to drive it till it blows. Have used mobil 1 synthetic since the very first oil change and now have 102,000 miles and change the oil every 3,000.
Let me guess, you have a 4.7 liter?

3.7l tick would be hot or cold. So I figured use the last f the extended warranty..

Got a great deal on a hardly used AEM Brute Force cold air intake for my Hemi. My buddy traded in his Hemi XK and let me swap pieces before he turned it in. I really wish I did this a long time ago! It's sad to think I'm selling this thing.

I'll be sure to let it go after the XK sells for a great price to pass along the deal! I might get to enjoy this piece for a whopping 5k miles.

Called the dealer. Cyl 6 lifter and rocker arm took a dodo. Extended warranty are paying for that one but he said to them all for an extra 180. Warranty deduct able is 100 bucks so my total is 280.

Well I have been lifted for over 3 1/2 years now with 102,000 miles on the odometer and bought the XK brand new. For a 2 year period I didn't have the speedo calibrated so I probably have more like 110,000 actual miles. Not only that but my XK is more than likely in the top 5 XK's on the forum that see the most off road on a monthly basis. The only issue with the alignment is when I have it done they say they cant get it dead on and thats why my front tires cup on the outside.

Took the front left side apart to replace the ball joint what a PITA the tool don't work all the way with our LCA design and stuff the replacement ball joint is then to long to get back in by like 1/16" dremmel cured that. I popped the cv out not on purpose :( never messed with them before so I was not happy. I got the ball joint and cv back in now just need to reassemble the rest and see what I messed up. I added some grease to the cv because wrestling it back in my hands were covered in grease messed with it for about an hour before I realized cutting the bottom of the bolt solved all my problems.

This were I sit now taking a break and having a beer

Took mine out for a bath, and to the dealer for the oil change and multi-point inspection. I wanted to get the inspection because the dealer I bought from was scum. They found right front strut is bad and leaking (I know this from installing the lift), I'll end up swapping out for the Bilstein's. What part number are those? They also found that the front diff mount is totally worn out. $240 for the mount and $800 in labor which means I'll be spending a Saturday on my back under the Jeep soon. Is this available anywhere besides the stealer? While at the stealer I was complimented on the Jeep and how they never see modified Commanders, then I asked about a 4" lift. $240 for the front differential bushings/mount???? Did they say which one is bad or all three of them? Two of the bushings are identical and cost a little over $20 a piece from the dealer. The third bushing/front differential mount cost a little over $100. Only the top bushing on my XK was really bad and that was the $20 bushing. A lot of people have been replacing those lately. save your self the money and do it yourself. I'll warn you know having just done mine two weeks ago that its a PITA. Make sure you have all the proper tools and something to press in/out the new bushings.

BTW that XK is SEXY! I dont know how you keep it looking mint especially if you take it off road.

I bought my XK brand new and the odometer now reads 103,000 miles. However I didnt have the speedometer calibrated for the first two years of being lifted with bigger tires so its probablly closer to 108,000. It has been lifted over 3 1/2 years and has seen a lot of off roading.

The EGR valve is an easy install. Just make sure you have a big enough wrench to get the old one out and new one in. It's pretty tight in there so I'd recommend cutting the wrench in half and using the open end.

Sal. Do you know what brand UCA's those are? I noticed today when I was in the garage messing around with my old parts that your new UCA's look different than my old oem UCA's. Maybe its just the picture, but it almost looks as if they are not angled like the oem arms. If your XK wasnt lifted, it wouldnt be an issue. But since you are I think you might have an issue with getting it aligned. It it just me or do they not look angled like mine?

The front wheel bearings are a bearing/hub assembly and just need to be replaced once bad. They are not like typical bearings that you can just re grease. They arent cheap either. This is just my opinion, but I wont use any other brand except OEM from the dealer or Timken. I feel all the other brands are garbage and wont last long on a lifted vehicle with wheel spacers and larger tires.

Recoated the bed liner on my bumpers and fender flares. I was wondering how it would cover over the textures surface. I just used a good paint brush and carefully cut the edges. It covered and recreated the same texture as before. Very easy way to touch up and does not require any taping or masking.

The 4" lift in the Mopar catalog is the SuperLift. It is like many other products in their catalog, they slap a Mopar sticker on it, call it theirs, and sell it for more than the manufacturer does. The Terraflex kit is just a 2" BB, basically what you already have.

It does seem a little quieter in the video, than it actually does in the truck. Around 2,000 rpm, you do get the all-over subwoofer sort of effect - especially with the windows down. With the stereo wide-open, windows up, and a/c on, it's NOT as noticeable. :p

Don't know how long this muffler will last - especially since I barely put 7k miles a year on a car (I walk to work - I keep the Jeep parked at my office!) - but I'm DEFINITELY leaning towards a 50-series for the NEXT replacement! :o

If you haven't replaced your factory muffler, it weighs 50lbs if it weighs an OUNCE! I've NEVER seen a passenger/non-commericial vehicle muffler THAT big, and I've owned a FULL-SIZED Bronco & Ramcharger, too!!!

I know what you mean about the old being big as heck, when I replaced mine I replaced with 50 Series Big Block - Three Chamber Mufflers & really enjoy it. The only time I really hear it in the XK is when I step on it (which I do all the time hence the 11 mpg if I am lucky lol)

Pulled the gas tank out today. I cut the gas tank skid plate so the drive shaft doesnt hit it anymore when the rear end is flexed out and installed a new rear upper control arm above gas tank. The tank needs to be dropped to get to the front bolt so I figured it was a perfect time to replace it. Ill replace the other three rear control arms in the near future.

Gas tank skid plate mod was a success. I got a late call last night to recover a lifted Cherokee who was burried out on the gas lines. It was very muddy back there with several crazy off camber hill climbs on the way out. The rear drive shaft no longer comes in contact with the skid plate!

Thats the plan!....well depending on how much snow we actually get. Weather here is crazy.. We have had several days in the 80's recently, now snow???

Got my alignment done today my camber adjustment is maxed out now and the bolts on the passenger side for the LCA are rounded now as well not sure if I did that wheeling or the last tech did it but oh well. I had to turn down the bass boat as well :( we meet at the DMV and the guy had no paper work for the trailer at all. So we talked to a investigator who explained the issue and problem of getting a title to the trailer and that was enough for me. I told the dude to call me if he ever gets a title.

That much lift, and you're still running THESE? Goodyear Silent Armor 245/75R17

It's a great looking rig, but your tires look BIGGER than that!

245/75/17 are basically the same diameter as 265/70/17. (.14" difference in nominal height)

....that's why I'm currently running them. The width of the 265 would cause significant rubbing issues due to my wheel specs... so with the 245s I get the same diameter in a thinner tire that's therefore easier to fit.

I should of took a before pic it was bad running your hand down the paint was like reading brail LOL I washed it (still getting mud out) two passes with rubbing compound then I waxed it and washed it again. I was to tired to get to the inside (have mud there to) and touch up the bumper paint.
