I'm always asked the question of what I would own and wheel if Jeep did not exist? And I'd like to pass that same question on to you guys. Lets see where you guys' thoughts are!

If jeep didn't exists I would probably end up with a Toyota FJ cruiser or Tacoma.

If Jeep did not exist then the hobby may have never started and we would not wheel anything :)

I almost bought a Land Rover LR3, and since this Jeep is my first offroader/4wd I guess it would have been a LR3 if Jeep didn't exist.

I'd probably rock something like this. But if we're talkin' new I might join Sal with the FJ.

One thing is certain - this group has expensive taste, lol.

Defender 90, Absolutly love these little rigs. After that a Nissan Patrol, or a Toyota Mini-Truck

Have you had a chance to look at any of the new Defender concepts that have been floating around. I don't follow it that much, and I'm a moderate Land Rover fan. But I know the defender has a lot of enthusiasts similarly like the equally prized FSJ's and truck pick-ups of Jeep.

I would say land rover defender for sure. AJeepZJ, have you seen the VW Tiguan in the movie "Repo men"? I would also drive that.

old school bronco or any toyota 4x4. My dad has a 2010 tacoma. Thing is nice. He was talking about a 2 inch lift for it.

For a purpose built trail rig... it'd be a suzuki samurai, hands down.

If i wanted a multi-purpose rig like my XK is... then i'd probably be rocking a Tahoe...

That's tough to answer. For an XK comfort type of 4x4 the LR3/LR4 or the Overseas version of the Land Cruiser Diesel with snorkel. For a trail rig FJ Cruiser or a Prado Diesel with a snorkel and lift. Or maybe the Hilux!!

lol. You can have it. I like Fords, but I hate the F250's and I don't think any of them belong on the trail.

superacerc
09-08-2011, 12:02 PM
Right me either, An F350 would always be the correct choice........ wait no not that either. lol

I've done some decent offroading with my dad's old F250 and it's alright but it turns like crap so you do a lot of back and forth stuff in the woods. Also if you don't have 4x4 engaged it has no real grip because it will just spin the tires too much. The engine has so much torque it is almost inevitable (7.4l Diesel/bully dog) that this thing has to be in 4x4 when on just about any surface even with km2s.

However, That is a sick F250 in that article!!!

I had an F-350 diesel. You're right, they suck on the trail. In fact, a trip to Moab with it was what prompted the entire RV redo from that truck and a 31' trailer to the current 40' motorcoach and Commander. The XK has been 10 times the trail rig.

There were times in coral colored Moab sand, that the F-350 spring-hopped across where I really didn't think we'd make it past. Get it stuck, and you have an 8,000 lb. truck to extract. Switch backs were 47 point turns. :) Of course, it was an extended cab with an 8' box. 5 MPH was max. Any faster and we'd rupture spleens.

I think they have a pretty trick setup with that 250, and I like the 7.3. I know for a fact I would not be able to drive my Commander 1500 miles, wheel 5+ rated trails for a week straight, and then make the 1500 mile trip back home. For a dual purpose rig, it is pretty cool IMHO. The first go around on that truck with the 46 inch tires and 4 inch lift, not a big fan because there was no suspension travel and too much tire, but I like this time around.

a WK is the largest vehicle I ever intend to wheel.

BonesWK
09-09-2011, 05:38 AM
I agree with you guys, the f250 is one heavy beast. and im with you AJ, our WK's are a bit hefty, especially if you get really stuck.

Im going to jump on the sammi bandwagon if I needed a hard core rig if jeep wasnt here. But the dual purpose - that f250 for sure...

Lol oh, I thought we were being realistic about what we would actually own/wheel if Jeep didn't exist..... hell I can think of some much sweeter vehicles than a Tahoe and sammi if we're moving this into "dream world" !!

LMAO I'm sure I got off topic but if I had the money I would wheel the nuts off those things LOL.. Maybe we should also have a dream fantasy money no object what would you wheel thread.

If I had a fantasy wheel rig.. It would still be a Jeep. A WK or WKII for sure that I could just relentlessly pump thousands into. Starting with solid axle swaps and a Hemi or Diesel engine, with every bells, whistle, and skid on the market. A 6" lift with 35's. I mean the WHOLE shibang....

Chapman89
09-14-2011, 07:36 AM
^Agreed.

I think a WK or XK would be unstoppable with 6-8 inches of lift, 1 ton solid axles, 38's, and a 6.3 Hemi or Diesel engine.
