Ive got to test a few things out for JBA and never did i think it would be their 6" lift. Im currently waiting on one last thing to show up but ill go ahead and post a teaser pic. I originally was going to wait until the Uwharrie trip to reveal the good but stuff happened at work and wont be going. Anyways heres a pic or the front strut and the rear shock. Im waiting on the SL kit i ordered to arrive for the install to happen. They are going to use the sl oarts to drop the angles back to stock and lift with jba parts. My rig is in PA right now chilli with Marlin .

Man i am soo freaking bored in traffic every morning, I did think it was funny though. What tires are you going to run on this? Maybe some Radial IROKs? Cant wait to see this done.

Were you able to order the "improved " superlift kit? If so, id love to see some good pictures and feedback on that. :)

EvilJager
10-19-2011, 10:34 AM
Lol...
havent decided on tires yet ive been wanting maxxis tires ever since ive seen them grip so well in comps. I was up till 2 am looking around.
Found some maxxis trepador competition but not sold yet. They dont look as aggressive as i want them to.
Size wise at least a 35" was thinking 37" after i saw the commander on 39's but that wont happen till i need a new set

EvilJager
10-19-2011, 10:49 AM
Yea it should be the same. I think i remember him saying that he was sending a kit to someone that owns a xk as well. I guess hes testing it for the xk guys to make sure

Is that still a plan anyway?

Are you still planning on driving your Jeep on the street? I wouldn't go with a comp compound, but thats me. Those 37 MTR with Kevlar look pretty cool too. Or a set of Baja Claw TTCs would be cool as hell too. You going to have to get new driveshafts?

What he said :)

I hope he picked an XK owner who supplies feed back and his opinion is respected. The last guy running XK tests for marlin only dropped by the forum like twice a year and that's not good enough for me anyway.

I think that's him I can't even remember his name. But considering no one has even hinted at getting something done or something coming I'm leaning towards it's someone we don't know which means we won't be able to see what's going on and considering the price of there stuff I'm not buying on faith.

Local shop said they could do a SAS for $4000.00. Any idea what this thing is going to cost?

Local shop said they could do a SAS for $4000.00. Any idea what this thing is going to cost?

Based on JBA pricing... probably $6k...

That's why im curious to see exactly what he's doing for the 6" lift. If he's just adding coilovers, control arms, shocks and a spacer or longer springs in the rear that could be accomplished today:

Superlift $2000
Custom length KING coilovers $1700
JBA UCAs $450
Rear shocks $150-$400 depending on basic shocks vs resi's
Rear spacer $150 (if you just buy an RC kit and use the rear spacer only)
TOTAL = ~$4700 if you go with resi shocks

Since JBA priced his coilovers at $2500 instead of the $1700 custom length KING's, that's another $800 easily right there putting. Plus he currently charges ~$270 per shock... so that's another $140 more based on his current pricing. So the total could easily be ~$5650 not including any other additions he puts into it.

At least someone else is making stuff for us! Expect prices to be outrageous until lifting XK's and WK's becomes popular enough to elicit suspension lifts from Rancho, Skyjacker, BDS (improved version, not cancelled version), etc.

Sal-XK
10-19-2011, 02:32 PM
I was quoted $6k for a SFA swap on a 8" lift so $4k sounds good to me.

EvilJager
10-19-2011, 03:21 PM
Ues i plan on driving this everyday. I dont know who hrs getting to do the xk test. I also dont k ow gow much this will all cost. We were talking the other day about him making a steel front axle for me to test like he makes for the libs. So that opens up gears and front lockers for us

I got you :) I only get that one at the trail head then I crawl up something they can't or won't. I usually have there respect shortly after the first obstacle. And of course letting a V8 go wide open in 4LO bouncing up a rock face is cool no matter what suspension your running LMAO

Matt
10-19-2011, 04:51 PM
that rep will always exist among chest pounding sfa owners... doesn't matter what we do to our rigs short of a sfa swap, they'll claim superiority.

And as my one buddy learned... a SFA jeep with big tires looks cool and all, but if you have two open diffs and no traction control, a 2" lifted XK with QDII and 30" tires will walk all over you offroad

I loved my commander but I wanted something else but if you want to talk **** about wranglers then ill rip on the commander. One thing to remember

Can fit 35's with no lift :D

LOL.

Here, let me save some time and give you your next two textbook wrangler owner comebacks:
1- well I can take my doors and top off!
2- we have a sfa!

And those are in response to me saying "i didnt know JKs came with a 7000+ pound tow rating (When properly equipped)?"

Don't take things so personal. Dead horse discussion? We all know both vehicles have pro's & con's.... if it bothers you that much when we poke fun at a wrangler "con", stay on JKU. :p

Yeah mate, saw the Uppers. Very similar to the Claytons long arm kit we are looking at using.

What size tyre do you think you'll end up running?

Atleast a 35" id like 36-37" but think they might rub. Ill have to do some tests and see what i can get out of it.

JBA probably wants to dump some R&D into a rear driveshaft skid now - Aside from the rear LCA's, which looks pretty sturdy, the driveshaft is in plain view. And beckoning for some protection.

Any guess as to what the situation will be with the angle of the drive shafts? Will the angle still be ok so the joints and seal do burn out? does the kit lower the transfer case or is it all still within an acceptable tolerance?

I love that this size of lift is finally becoming real! I just always am skeptical of the little problems that may arise from it.

Thank you for helping pioneer this!! good luck with the rest of it!

He said the angles will be fine. I dont think they did anything to the t.case

Used the sl kit for a cradle drop so that helped out alot.

Criket. haha pa has some deep water runoffs on that mountain!

Expect finished pics soon!
