Yeah Sal has his hand ready to make a quick exit...

Im not as crazy as you, I was worried i'd leave my rear bumper on that drop off... its a good drop, hit the rear frame rails... It was the first real time i'd done anything like that... i've played in water and 2' of snow but no real offroading...

Nice post....I liked your vid.
Thanks, If the wind would have cooperated alittle more it would have been better.

Also im still not sure on the spacers... they look ok but i think i liked it better without them..... I dont know how to describe it, almost like im driving a super wide hummer.

I thought the spacers improved the stability especially off road didn't feel as tippy. Not to mention I think it looks better as well that wide stance looks right on the XK

Yeah its more stable for sure, I just need some JK wheels and tires now.....

Spacers also give a wider track. This sets the tires a little wider than ruts we ride.
This also helps from getting stuck or bogged down.

didn't want to post this at first because Im a noob but what did i do wrong... i figured it would pull up the hill no prob without 4low.....

Im not trying to make excuses but it rained the night before and the ground was very soft on top and frozen underneath.

We all started somewhere learning our jeeps bro. The first trail I hit my wife's car could of probably made it LOL

Did you put it in 4 low? Seems like the TCS was limiting your engine power and not letting slip occur at first. If you would have clicked the button once and made the light come on for TCS it probably would have done it. When you go to 4 low the engine power is no longer limited when the jeep starts to slip and only the side to side traction control functions which will help you find grip. Wet grass and less aggressive tires don't help either. With my agressive tires i rarely lose traction at all and don't usually need 4 low unless i'm trying to limit downhill speed or really just need some grunt and wheelspin. Nice vids.

One last edit: Do you have Quadra drive on the 4.7l? That's cool if so. Mine's only Quadra trac.

Didn't use 4low at first, I also didn't disable the traction control or anything. I'll say this... it was much steeper than it looked and was very slick. I have quadra drive 2, i figured it would make it no problem, i probably didn't give it enough time to engage as i let off the gas pretty much as soon as it started to spin. Also this was really the first time i've driven on anything slick other than snow....

Matt
01-10-2012, 05:24 PM
If you let spin for another half second or so it would've engaged the clutches in the axles for ya then you would've walked right up there. 4-low would've engaged them too.

... next time i bet you go right up it and don't even think about it :)

so do the axles engage with traction control on, in 4hi?? I put it in 4low and it went right up no problem!

Matt

Yes, the axles will engage even with traction control on; but it's still better to turn traction control off when offroading to let the system work better/quicker

Loving the new intake so far, mileage is best so far even if its just by .1, but my previous best was with no roof racks. Best thing is that my jeep will pull almost all the steep long grades on the interstate without have to drop two gears!

That intake looks real good man.

If you guys couldn't tell from the sell off im having, my jeep is back to stock height and tire size, I simply am never going to wheel like you guys do so it is pointless for me to have a lift/tire im never gonna really use, and i've gotta stop buying crap I don't need, my goal this year is to be debt free and that will never happen if i keep buying stuff for my jeep. Also i've gotta say this its nice to be able to do a u-turn or simply pull into a parking spot without my ESP activating... the MPG increase is nice aswell i've been getting 17-18mpg compared to my 15mpg before and thats no highway driving.... :)

Matt
03-01-2012, 07:18 PM
While i'll argue to death that there's a difference between "needing" something and doing it as an "enthusiast" (kind of like the "big kids" version of playing with truck in the sand box)... there's one fact that trumps ALL..... "debt free". You're making a good choice .

But i hope we still don't lose you as an enthusiast. At least make sure you let us help you out when you need some technical help!

I backpacked a portion of the highlands about 20 years ago.... was not prepared for or aware of the elevation and at one point my pace was so reduced that my feet were not able to clear each other..... it would take 2 steps to move 1 foot. It is only recently that I realized the east coast had mile high mountains and the implications.

It is beautiful up there and one of the few places you can run into wild ponies.
