My wife and I are expecting our first child!

The baby is due August 9th 2012. We are soo excited!

Its funny you say that, when I found out that we were having our first I west got a Jeep Liberty Stroller & it is great. I will post up a pic of it, I get comments on it all the time & with the big tires on it allows it to go off road too hahaha

To pass on a slightly "serious" piece of advice:

IF you happen to be stuck up all night with a crying baby.... enjoy it.

It sounds strange, and it WILL test your nerves... but if you keep in mind that that's "your" child and your #1 priority is to care for them and comfort them, you'll get through it. And there are benefits.

As an example, i literally didn't sleep for the first two months after my son was born because he was colicky. During the nights i'd sit in our recliner with the TV on and let him just cry on me while my wife was in the bedroom sleeping. They called me "the zombie" at work. Well, after about 2 months he finally started sleeping at night... And around 3-4 months, when he would start waking up in the middle of the night crying my wife couldn't get him to stop crying, but then i'd go in there, pick him up and put him on my shoulder and he'd fall asleep instantly. It is/was by far one of the best feelings ever and made that 2 months of "hell" well worth it.

So basically, the best advice i can give is to "enjoy" all of the things that scare people about having babies. The sleepless night, hell, even the dirty diapers... ti's all part of what makes the experience great. :)

Oh and one more piece of advice... my wife didn't pick up on this as quick as i did...

If you have a boy and your changing him, and his little "fire hose" starts changing direction... Before I took his diaper off, I covered him with a wipe. It took the wind out of his
sail. Only 1 time did I ever get close to spray.

When he wakes up at night to cry, don't change the diaper, they hold a lot and
you will keep from waking him completely.

See a chiropractor, he saved us from a colicky baby by aligning his spine.

I spend a lot of the time at the office... and especially now since i started my masters degree, i dont even see my daughter on Mondays & Wednesdays (leave for work before she wakes up and don't get home till 10PM) :(

hrm.. while I can't totally disagree.. I can't say it's a total trumping either, my wife was deployed for 8 months, I flew solo with 2 year old twins for that time. He at least got to spread them out. I'm going to go with a push at best.

I know you just moved, so you understand the military lifestyle, we were 2500 miles from our closest family when our kids were born so while we had some help for short periods of time when family flew out for a week or so it was up to us the rest of the time without any other family support.. it was rough. Man I wouldn't want to relive those first 3 month for anything.

oh yes we make her help. Yea every 2 yrs or so we move. the first 3 months suck. no sleep at all, the the Army gives you only 10 days for maternity leave. So after that 10 days its back to the grind of 0630 PT formation. So sleep is few and far between.

My wife had 6 weeks off when the kids were born, but as soon as that was up I was on my own while she went to work. We ran shifts and would sleep with ear plugs because for the longest time we couldn't get more than about 45 mins of silence between the two of them.

Nothing makes me appreciate my XK more than looking behind me and seeing that little head looking around in amazement at the places we are going and what he is getting to see. The XK stadium seating makes him able to see all the way around, unlike my dd car.

Well... ya' got about 8 mos. to do anything you want to your Jeep. My oldest was 11 before I GOT my Jeep (we have 3 others kids!), so that's how long it'll be before you make any MORE major mods, OR, get a new one! :eek:

Late summer and 8 months pregnant was not pleasant for either of us... Try to keep her comfortable.

I think im going to have to just wrap her in ice the last month or so. It gets HOT and HUMID down here so it should be an adventure for sure.
