Which metal would you think is best to make a snorkel out of? I only choose these two types because its something I can work on as well as find a shop to work on as well.

I do not know the two metals well enough to vote, but aluminum would be lighter and stainless would be easier to care for.

I'm leaning towards the steel right now. Both are good against rust both are pretty strong but aluminum is a lot more money. I'm considering just having a shop bend some 3" tube up and see if I can make that look good.

I like my airflow but I am going to talk to them this week about a needed improvement.

At $550 man I'm struggling to pull the trigger on that man. If it was around $300 I would of bought it already.

So how bad would it look with a 3" tube going up to the A pillar. Or should it be boxy. Obviously boxy would be more work cutting and welding flat stock together over just having a tube bent a couple of times.

Honestly I think the best route for the XK snorkle is to utilize the desige of the H1. A short hood snorkle would be really cool and east to make.

The problem with that is the Hummer hood opens by flipping forward, therefore the snorkel is not in the way when it opens up. A lot more trouble with a traditionally opening hood.

That's one of the issues I was having while designing one.

Regardless of how the hood opens you are going to run into problems. It there is a way to build it into to Panel between the Hood and Windshield like the H1 I would assume that is the best route

I was looking at this idea last year I'm sure there is thread on it somewhere LOL. It can't be done without cutting the hood and you can't go into the piece next to the window because thats where the HVAC system draws it air from. Then there was the issue of space in that sections of under the hood. No filter could be used in there so the filter would have to be outside which also caused a design problem. It can be done anything can be done I just ran into to many problems that the cure was more then I wanted to do or had the skill to do. I'm all ears on all ideas if you can figure a way to do it I would diffidently take a look.

The way you bump into things, I think your best bet would be stainless. unless you are taking the air from inside the XK.

I voted stainless. Don't have to worry about galvanic corrosion using steel fasteners.

Good points I'll go stainless then. Now should Make a template or just give the shop my jeep to have the pipe bent. I think it can be solid pipe no joints that shouldn't be to hard to bend up.

Yeah 550 is a bit rough for a snorkel...

Are you going to use the safari snorkel top? That's what I did on my explorer except I pieced it together with PVC on the exterior.

Ya that top or one like on the hummer. I'd like to stay away from PVC maybe use it for a template.

Yeah I made that in high-school.... lol options and funding were a bit limited then.

However I didn't run ANY PVC in the engine compartment. It mated up with the filter box at the fender wall.

love to see you come up with Sal.

If there is interest I can make the template out of PVC then number and take it apart. That way I can ship it to who ever and they can take it to a shop and some 3" bent up. I'll have to dig around and see I'm working a few options I still might purchase one if I can find it for the right price. But for now I'll avoid all water and the rain LOL
