View Full Version : headliner removal

I have an 07 that is leaking at the caps on the passenger side grab handle. I recently removed the carpet and cleaned the drain hose and got rid of the red plastic cap on the end of the hose. Water is flowing down the drain and it is no longer clogged. I poured water several times down the drain and could see that it was unrestricted. I was walking in tall cotton until the first time it rained..Leaks again at the grab handle caps. I took off the grab handle hoping to see where the drain hose is connected to the drain. No luck, it disappears under the headliner. If I pour water down the drain I can see it dripping from up in the headliner down the hose which makes me think there is a crack/leak in the hose itself. I tried removing the sunvisor but it didn't cause the headliner to budge. I don't need the whole headliner off just enough so I can see where it connects to the drain so I can diagnose and fix the problem. Can anyone advise me how to accomplish this or direct me to site with photos to show me how to do it?
There is no hesitation at the drain when I pour water down it. It evacuates almost immediately.

The hose have a habit of coming disconnected not sure why jeep didn't use just one long hose. The head liner is simple enough to take off. I'll try to find the thread for you after dinner if know one beats me to it.

Thanks Sal that looks exactly like what I need. I've had the 8mm bolts out of the sunvisor but it did not come off. Perhaps I didn't pull hard enough. I don't have lighted mirrors. I guess that's what the round thing is I see in the photo. Apparently this photo was taken after the visor was removed. I hope it's as easy as it sounds. I'll find out tomorrow. It's dark and raining now.I'll let you know if I was able to access the drain connection and fix it. I'm half crazy with cabin fever. I"ll take the whole Jeep apart to fix this leak. I have a 97XJ with aftermarket sunroof and it's never leaked nor have the drains ever clogged...go figure!

I went through this a couple months ago. I was going nuts. Weird thing was, it was just the door seal. I had cleaned the hoses, removed everything, and it was still leaking! Bought a tube of silicone sealant and did the door seals. Fixed! and for less that $10 and 5 minutes of my time. pissed i did not try it in the first place

It didn't work for me. I removed the sunvisor and grab handle but was still unable to reach inside to remove/check the drain hose connection. The headliner just didn't have enough give in it to bend down far enough for me so see inside. I could pull it about 2" but couldn't see anything because the liner was in the way. I tried using a small mirror but stil couldn't see far enough. I also removed the tab catch (I don't know mechanical lingo) that holds the sunvisor on the left side. That helped a little but not enough. Dang it I really thought this might be an easy fix. I should know better, nothing ever is.

Hopefully someone will chime in with the how to. I'll add this to my list of things to document if no one else does.
