I washed mine it was covered in yellow guts from helping AJ move. The new paint I put cleaned right up no problems much happier with this stuff over the rustolem bed liner spray.

wow...i thought my XK had a lot of miles on it!

Yeah it does. I'm pretty amazed that it really still drives and runs like day 1.
My F150 I took to 258,000 and the Blazer before that was 238,000.
But I do have that new to me used trans.
AC wasn't keepin up today, I have to throw my guages on that tonight.
The lift is working out, I have a little squeak in the back, I'm going to put new rubbers on the springs this weekend.
Thanks again bro....

Finished replacing lower ball joints, upper ball joints and bushings I started last Sunday. Now maybe I can get it aligned!
I also replaced the passenger CV (again) because the current one was very stiff and probably contributing to my poor gas mileage.

Last night I tore apart the rear end again. My mission was to install 1 inch bump stop spacers. After some crazy articulation testing during the process I ended up installing the 2 inch spacers. I think the rear end is good to go now. With the HD OME coils the rear end doesn't stuff the tires into the fender flares like it did when I had the spacer lift on. I'm thinking it has something to do with the higher spring rate coils. 7 more days until groves grog mud bog and I think I might go creek wheeling again today. I found out late last night that a bunch of the local guys are heading down there this afternoon.

Relocated the light bar to the front (removed the rack yesterday, not going to run one for now), couple of brackets off the radiator support panel that come through the grille.

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/05/DSC_0083-1.jpg

Also installed the other of the singles (one each side at the rear), used the factory bolt and notched the side rail cover out to sit around it.

Rears are currently wired to the switch panel in the front, just have to put in a second feed from the reverse lights. Eventually!

I miss the roof rack and light set up. Is there no way you can carry a document with you signed off by the locals that says you are within regulations??

valpacer
05-06-2012, 01:46 PM
I wish. You have the land of the free, i'm in the land of do what your goddamn told! In my state you cant even engineer a modified lift - engine changes etc are all ok as per regs, but tyres and lift are set. Having said that I can engineer the new diff mounts and locations, just not the height or tyre size. Means if i at least get pulled over by the police it will look like im doing the right thing and just wear the fines for the tyres.

I may put a different rack up, but a slimmer one.

The powdercoat on the rack had all gone chalky, and there are a couple of decent rust holes in the main frame, so it wasnt just for looks. Now its off the truck, it wont sit on the ground flat either, so the twist in the body (whatever little there is) has been enough to twist the rack. For what i paid it was actually pretty disappointing. Was the first one in Queensland though - never be the first its the one they experimented on!

I realized I never put up pics of my new tires. I actually went with the Hankook Dynapro ATMs. The wheels are from a 05 Grand Cherokee that I painted. I used a coat of self etching primer, two coats flat black, and 3 coats of satin clear coat. I'm really happy at how they turned out.

Saturday night I articulated the rear to see how close everything is with the 2 inch bump stop spacers installed. The top of the tire tucks right into the fender well (It looks like its touching in the picture but its no where near). The front of the rear fender flare has about 2mm of clearance before the tire rubs and the tire just touches the rear part of the flare.

Like a great THINKER, I sat in a camping chair for about 1.5 hrs today thinking of ways to further the progress on my Jeep. I walked around clockwise a few times, then counter clockwise. Sometimes I would stop, scratch my head, and rub chin then keep walking. Then I'd sit down, and think further. Then I'd get up look underneath and lay underneath, lol. It was a good morning.

Oh, and I also cleaned, sanded, and impact marks on my Sliders. Today was fun.

Removed the roofrack & dropped it off at a welding shop to have it welded into 1 sold piece verse the 3 separate pieces held together with screws. The reason why for this is water gets in & rusts from the inside out & leaves rust stains all over the XK when the water leaks out. also the welding shop will be fabing a spare tire mount in the rack. Had the Xk washed. Flushed the engine, Changed the oil W/M1 Full Syn. Cleaned the CAI filter. removed all the skid plates (exception of fuel tank skid) to pound back out & paint. Drain & filled T-Case & Rear Diff. Used Mopar NV245 Fluid for T-Case. M1 75-140 W Friction Mod additive for rear diff. Did not change the front diff fluid because it appears to look like it has a leak, the cv on the pass side appears to be wet. Having the shop look at it, its covered under my Extended Warranty 0 deductible. Grounded the TB using a 12g wire. Added a fuel additive to clean out the fuel lines. cleaned out the TB butterfly area (currently set off check engine light). removed the battery pos & neg for about 20 to 30 min today & it did not turn off the check eng light. I also removed the gas cap & re attached it as well. I will see if it still on tomorrow after some time for the XK to sit. if still an issue will use the flashpaq to see if it will reset it. Tomorrow after the wife is taken care of I might be able to install the unistrut bars I had & painted so when I get the rack back it will have lower profile.

Matt

That's one hell of a list! Why don't you use the flashpack to see what the engine light is on for? Might be something simple like you forgot to plug the IAT sensor back in after cleaning the intake....

LOL the weather has been great here lately plus I am on 2 week vacation decided to get a bunch done. The light went off today while driving, I had forgot to plug in the sensor that was in the CAI tube.

Whats left is to do from that list is drop the XK off to have the front diff looked at. Clean up pound out the skids & paint where needed. They earned the price I paid for them will post pics this week.
It will be probably a week or so before I get the roof rack back as well.

Most of the remainder on the list will be completed this week.

I will say I think grounding the TB plate does help the throttle response at least for the Hemi's.

Threw on some new front pads and rotors. While I have run into rotors being rusted on to the hub, I didn't realize the wheels could do the same to the rotors. When I went to swap my tires front to back, the rears were actually stuck onto the rotors. Thank God for power blaster and a five pound sledge hammer. ( I was prepared for the front rotors). :) Might be a good idea to coat them in anti-seize, I did before re-installing them. I'm really glad I didn't find this out on a busy highway, on a dark night.

Drove to Atlantic City this weekend.. XK ran like a champ, 13.3 mpgs, everything was going smoothly.. Stayed at Trump plaza for bachelor party weekend, parked her in Valet Friday.. Saturday AM, get a call from Valet, she was broken into:mad::( they tried breaking drivers window but it wouldnt break so they broke drivers side rear door window, incuding 1/4 glass, stole my gps and a couple smaller items.. The glass they broke went over interior and scratched some of the rear leather as well. Heres a pic of some of the damage.. Weekend was a blast except that, OH and my room got broken into.. Trump plaza was a dump, staff sucked, rooms sucks, valet obviously sucked.. They will be paying for damages to car, items stolen and I will be trying to get my 1000$$ I spent on rooms..

Ive worked hard to get where Im at financially and its really disappointing when there are people out there that have nothing better to do but ruin what other worked so hard for.. More importantly, I fell more in love with my XK thru this last journey. Sucks someone had to try and ruin it, but atleast she's repairable, never left me stranded just a little lighter in my pockets with the cost of gas!!!!!

I have some new LED lights coming for the taillights and backups. The taillights are 42 LED and the BU's are 68 LED. Both are not 1990's technology garbage, they're Cree SMD type, so they should be searing bright. The BU's are white, and I went ultra-red for the taillights so there's no light loss. (Converting white into red thru the lens cuts too much) They should be here in today's mail. My dashboard also says PERFORM SERVICE so it's time to put in new Mobile 1. Maybe tonight if I get time. I won a Femco valve in the 2009 Jeep Summit in Colorado, and it does make oil changes really easy. (and not messy)

By the way, I used a utility knife to hack out about half of that stupid plastic inner fender well. NO MORE TIRE RUB!! Even after some semi-hard wheeling Memorial Day on Wahluke Slope, silence is golden! :D Had I known that silly plastic crap was all it was while we were down in Moab, I'd have done it then. All the way through Fins and Things, RRRRRRRRRIP!!! as the edge got caught in the tread.

So after all the bs I had happen to my XK over the weekend I was surprised to have received my k&n yesterday.. Will be going in as soon as she gets back from the dealership for repairs to windows.. Also found out some interesting facts on our XKs windows, especially front door windows. The punks that broke into the Jeep tried to break the front drivers window but it wouldnt break, they tried 6 different spots including bottom corner but nothing happened but a crack. Come to find out because of the amount of surface area and size of window, they have to be as thick and resilient as the windshield, which is why it never shattered just cracked forcing them to go to back windows. Pretty interesting..

I forgot to actually LOOK at the back of the Jeep when I ordered the LED's. There's FOUR lights back there! (duh) Back to eBay for another pair of 42 SMD LED "bulbs" and I threw in a couple of courtesy light replacements this time as well. Might as well blast white light onto the floorboards.

The 68 LED backup "bulbs" make the original bulbs look like birthday candles. They look really cool behind the lens too. (when unlit)

The pair I played with last night look great in those bullet lens, and the 'star' shape on the end of LED's can be directly seen and look very cool. I put the original bulbs back for now 'til the second pair shows up. They are better in every way compared to the bulb filaments. Walking from side to side, the LED's show up much better than the bulbs. (I had a bulb in the lower, and an LED in the upper for testing)

Also, it needs load resistors because the Jeep can't deal with no bulb filament load, so I have four 6 ohm 50 watt resistors on the way too. Remove one upper bulb, and the brake lights and third light on top all light up. Turn signals, and the LED won't light up, while the front bulb is rapidly bink-bink-binking away. (The running lights seem to work okay)

The upper pair is brake lights, the lower pair are turn signals. Of course, all four light up for running lights.

These are similar to what I have:

No kidding on those LED bars. I first saw one at a Jeep rally in Naches Pass. There was a hundred people there, and it got dark on the events, so a guy parked and turned his on. It was like something from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." It was so bright in fact, that he aimed it up into the trees to get the photon blast off the stage area. The spill-over light was more than enough.

I finally got around to installing a CB in my XK. Now, I can talk to someone on the next trail run. :) I installed this one:
https://www.cobra.com/detail/75-wx-st-compact-remote-mount-cb-radio-with-soundtracker-and-noaa-weather.cfm

There just isn't room for anything else in there. I used a Maxrad antenna on a fender mount, and put it opposite the AM/FM antenna.

I remember following your build thread on it, have to read the rest. I will PM you some questions, specially as it pertains to the CRD engine.

Thanks Mate, got your PM's on JF, hope the info helps!

If only that was the ONLY 'scratch', I even found the roof dented again when making the new rack

I agree its a nice looking WK, however I think its a 3 way tie between valpacer, Eviljager and Omelet. All three of them have bada$$ WK's!!!

You have me in very highly esteemed company there 07! I think the Ex Jager WK will be very different soon, all the Saguaro bits are coming off.

I think we have to break down the 3 Jeeps you listed

Most dinted and scratched - Mine
Most mods and attention to detail - Omelet
Most tyre. Ever. - Evil Jager

Haha!

Im not so bent on a 4 inch lift anymore. Especially after seeing how much more ground clearance I have under the front suspension over my buddy thats running the 4 inch. And since Im running 33s also I have the same amount of clearance under the rear axle as him. He only has me by and inch under the belly. If I can get this tube fender project going ill have more then enough room to go with 34's next time around.

Oh and I replaced a stuck rear brake caliper last night on the XK. Next up, painting the rear axle and and everything else rusted under the rear and installing my new shocks.

I used to be under the same mind set (trying to convince myself I didn't need the SL because I couldn't afford it). But in reality by adding the SL I gained 3" of down travel (which is a huge improvement especially for us) and by adding the extra inch I didn't loose much clearance under the front diff and was able to easily clear 35s. I was content before running the OME and 295s but down travel was limited and even though my clearance was fine I was constantly lifting tires. And as everyone knows keeping tires on the ground is key. I don't get why guys put the SL on and only run 285s?

What i came to find out that most guys run the 285's on the superlift because they dont want to do all the extra mods (like pinch welds). Plus if you don't do the mods the 285's fit perfect at full flex and when your completely stuffed. However, i well be going to a 305 when my 285's are dead. Do the WK's have more tire clearance then the XK's?

I would love having more travel up front but would definitely need tube fenders so I could run a minimum of 35s up front with a superlift to gain some of the ground clearance back that you lose with the drop down brackets. We will see what happens. Gears would be needed for s daily driver on 35s

valpacer
06-23-2012, 11:06 PM
I was always hoping to do a SL, and now im even happier I did. I have been able to retain the front travel , greatly extend the rear travel and have the belly clearance and departure of a shorty. I think the only thing that would be better would be keeping a 2.5" lift and doing a LRA tank relocate and cutting the guards for a LCOG 35" tyre type of rig. Which is i think where you are heading 07JeepXK, which will be awesome if you can pull it off!!

Went for my first real wheel last night (not hard though, still waiting on rear shocks) and even without any rear droop at all, and the front swat bar on the new abilities were amazing! I had a couple of hairy moments due to the rear, but the only truck that outdrove me was a brute on 35's. Both JKU's on 35's got bellied up where i walked through! And tracks that used to require some right pedal for me to use I can now crawl at under 5kph.

And thanks again Nathan and 07JeepWK for the info on the pinchweld area, the BFH has given the 35's room to breathe!

Just be sure you get the correct rack. I've heard that the rebuilt WK racks dont work on the XK's. And the problem with that is most places dont know what the rebuilt rack originally came out of. So make sure it definiately came out of an XK.

Ok , not really what I did to my Commander, but more like what I did with her.

Only been home a few days from work and she has taken me to one brush fire ( nothing like the ones out west, thank goodness!) One major multi-vehicle accident, one trailer and one house fire.

I have had some great photo opportunities over the last year, like when a brush (fire) truck stalled and needed a jump while surrounded by fire. The Commander had no problem getting off road and jumping starting the truck. Unfortunately.. when the vehicle is in use on scene I'm really to busy to take photos !!!

Someone took these for her after I had move my vehicle to help block the road.. yes the Police Dept's job, note one on the side of the street.

Yes.. people where driving over our hoses !!

I don't think i've ever posted in here. In the last couple weeks I've gotten stuck in a drainage ditch filled with gravel, sand and mud. Jeep was basically laying on its side. Slid up and down on that side to get out, I did eventually get out. Next morning I noticed a lot of bedliner was removed from the sliders AND were starting to rust. So I sanded those down and prepped them and repainted those... good as new. Couple days later I bought a Hi-Lift jack from 4wheelparts-Raleigh. Quite a bit of dirt was on my K&N Dry charger, so I washed that as well as well as the Jeep. I took off all of my tires and brought them all to 38psi, then I removed the years of small pebbles that have caked up behind my dust shield and went ahead and did a tire rotation as well. Tightened my 4xG Matrix, and touched up the 4xG belly. Checked the integrity of my engine oil, diff fluid, and xcase fluid. Waxed the top portion of the roof and greased my Monroe LL's.

No right front the clip that snaps to the bumper broke so the brushes must of caught it. I'll have to get some new ones of make my own fasteners. Replaced another bent tie rod and two bad mounting bushings on the front axle. We were able to disconnect the drive shaft (aka propeller) and unbolt the LCA on the passenger side, then rotate the diff enough to replace them both without removing the axle. It was less than a two-hour job--including pressing the old bushing out. The rear bushing/isolator (near the drive shaft) was totally destroyed, and the front bushing was cracked all the way around (this one was pricy!). Now, I'm off to get a car wash then put the armor back on.

Didn't realize nobody sells the ONE and ONLY one style of battery that fits these things, for LESS than $160!!! Was gonna get mine at Autozone - I had a $25 frequent flyer discount coming on my next purchase over $100, and that was gonna get me down to $141 on the battery. Called up a church member though, who's an Asst. Mgr. at the local Monro Muffler, to see if he knew any better deals. He got me out the door with a new one, for right at $136! So I saved $30 at least!

Oh - and I touched up the rear lower quarter panels - right by the doors, in front of the wheels - with some Chrysler silver paint! They were looking a little rough and blasted after 5 years, and the paint matched nicely!

Mine was picked up today to get a complete detail. In & out Eng bay & undercarriage. The works including claybar & buff & polish. Once that is done I can put the roofrack back on to get ready for my wheelin trip @ tsf @ the end of the month.
