Trail Damage
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/05/IMG_2721-1.jpg
At some point in time someone used dynamite and a jack hammer to burrow a 5,000 sq. ft. house inside this rock. Now they charge $6.00 a head to let you look at it but you cannot take photos. At one time they even had a roadside dinner at this location which would have been a cool place to stop for bacon and eggs
Have to thank my wife for allowing this great trip:

A little post-Ultimate Jeep Summit carnage:
I don't believe that anyone did any damage during the actual UJS but we did this on Thursday afternoon on our way out of our Elephant Hill run. I'm not sure what caused the tie rod to snap as we weren't doing anything out of the ordinary. This happened about 1/4 mile from the trailhead.
https://theultimatejeep.com/notfound.png
Not having the right parts for a trail fix, we left Sherman overnight and returned to Moab for parts. Here is the 'splint' we did on Friday that got us out (and home!).
https://theultimatejeep.com/notfound.png
Don't ask me why I didn't just pull the tie rod and have it welded in Moab. I just wasn't thinking, but at least the 'splint' didn't require putting the boot clamp back on which took me over an hour the last time I had to do it.
I hope to post some more pics soon and maybe a YouTube video of Wipe-Out Hill!
The family and I had another great WCCC/WCUJS. The weather & wheeling was just fantastic and I'm looking forward to Silverton next year.

Got home late Saturday. We went around Bonneville Salt flats, then up 93 from Wells Nevada. 1,886 miles total in the motorcoach. Didn't keep track in the Jeep, but I'd guess 300 or so miles, mostly off road.
The horrendous tire "ripping" noise was torn plastic fender liners which were getting raked by the tire tread just like playing cards stuck in a kid's bike spokes. Totally harmless, yet sounded really BAD!
I'm gonna try a link here to Flickr. It SHOULD open an album page with 101 photos. If it works, you should be able to click the slideshow button, and sit back and enjoy.

FYI, the JKU was rented from Cliffhanger Jeep Rentals for my daughter and her two friends from college. I do recommend Cliffhanger. They were $195/day for a modified JK and gave us a 10% discount for renting for 2 days. They were also the only rental company in town that didn't prohibit running a lot of the fun trails like Hell's Revenge and Poison Spider Mesa.

Those are Potash ponds...
Moab
The Moab or Cane Creek potash mine (38°31′20″N 109°39′32″W) is located along the right (northwest) bank of the Colorado River, about 20 miles (30 km) west of Moab, Utah,[3] at the south end of State Route 279 and the Cane Creek Subdivision of the Union Pacific Railroad. The location is known as Potash on U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) topographic maps, and is east of Dead Horse Point State Park and Canyonlands National Park.[4] According to USGS reports, the Paradox Basin contains up to 2.0 billion tons (1.8 billion metric tonnes) of potash, with the primary mine being the one at Cane Creek.[5]
The plant was built by the Texas Gulf Sulphur Company in the early 1960s,[6] opening in 1963 as a conventional underground mine.[7] Later that year, an explosion trapped 25 miners,[8] of whom only seven were able to survive, by building a barricade to trap fresh air.[9] In 1970, operations were changed to a system that combines solution mining and solar evaporation. River water is pumped into the mine and dissolves the potash, after which the brine solution is pumped to evaporation ponds.[3] Intrepid bought the mine in 2000[10] from the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan,[11] which had bought Texas Gulf in 1995.[12]

I've been playing around with Google Earth.
I used the ruler to find out we were parked 1.29 miles from the "tourist" viewpoint (Dead Horse Point) up on top. I didn't think it was that far away.
The "grill" shot.

And the little people looking down at us from the viewpoint. (Taken with a big Sigma 800mm lens)
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/05/7245374438_99816c1538_b-1.jpg
Also, during the last of the climb up and out, we were only something like 40 yards away from the paved road on top. Who knew? :) HA! On edit: measured with Google Earth, we were only 124 feet away from the public on the pavement up on top!

That one of me under the arch... I look like I need to be colored green, live there permanently, and charge toll for anyone visiting there. :D Good bridges to live under and charge toll for are getting hard to find ever since all the dragons and gargoyles have gone extinct. :D

I forgot I had my smart phone on a mount on the windshield. I finally got the videos off of it today, and uploaded to youtube.
The first one, was a little ways into Fins 'n' Things, so I think the music selection is perfect: "Learning to Fly" from the "Momentary Lapse of Reason" album. :) The first part of this trail was almost a shall we say but-pucker. :) The only irritation was the stupid phone ran out of memory, and cut off the video before I could head down. I had to move videos from internal to external memory, and didn't do it until later. (Too busy driving)

Whiners. Yeah, yeah, I used something from my MP3 collection, violated youtube's TOS, blah blah. I deleted the stupid things, and I'll redo 'em later. (sans music) Besides, there's a third video that I need to convert/upload. I'll get around to it next week, right now I'm too annoyed.
On edit:
Okay, let's go for round TWO. Except for the first one, I pretty much made silent movies. The 1st one has squealing tires as the XK in front of me climbs the rocks, and I couldn't kill THAT. I reduced the audio because, like the others, it's just rattling keys and my breathing. :) The other two are no sound.
