I was driving to work yesterday and noticed a very high pitch squeak sound coming from the rear of my commander. It only happens when i get up to 2000 RPM's and goes away when the jeep shifts to the next gear. Any ideas it is very annoying.

That's strange..... you sure it was the rear of the Jeep? Things back there usually depend on vehicle speed as opposed to engine RPM. Can you recreate the sound? Was your AC on? Could have been a combination of AC compressor engagement and alternator load resulting in some belt squeal.

Also check the trans fluid for level, color and smell.

Cool thanks and my AC was not on. All of my fluids are good. IT almost sounds like the sound you get when you have dust in your breaks, but does not go away tell it shifts.

Is it easily repeatable?

Hows your rear pinion seal? It could be that.

My suggestion, is to put your jeep on a lift and asee if you or a buddy can put it in gear and repeat it. I had to do that when my t-case was whining. It turned out that it needed a fluid change, lol.

Did you ever figure out what the squeak was? If so, I'd like to know for future reference. Thanks.

The only thing I found was a small hole in my exhaust but other than that I haven't found anything yet. Its still there and I tore the back end apart this weekend and couldn't find anything.

Dang well that stinks. Maybe it will somehow magically fix itself, lol. I hate it when I tear everything apart and try to find the root cause but end up finding nothing.

Do you think it could be a bad wheel bearing/hub assembly? or maybe one of the brake shields rubbing?

The wheel bearing and hub assembly is all i have left to check. Checked everything else in the rear end this weekend and no luck.
