It looks like the wife and I will be doing the Rubicon Trail July 20th and 21st (Friday and Saturday) if anyone wants to joins us. We will probably be doing it from the Georgetown side, coming out at Tahoe. I read where they are doing some 'maintenance' which will make the Little Sluice easier. Jeeper's Jamboree starts the following Wednesday so hopefully we'll beat the crowds.

Wow! It's a 13-hour drive for you! Almost as long as from Albuquerque.

Well we did it! Pictures to come later as I didn't bring the right cable for the camera.

It took two pretty full days and was way harder than I was expecting but we had no breakage and only a couple of problems with the rear heater hoses getting knocked off by the front passenger tire (Jon knows about this :-)). There was some body damage from some really narrow sections (a pushed in rear passenger door and a good scrape on the rear driver side door).

Sorry guys. I'm still in California for the next two weeks. I need to get an SD card reader to get these pics off the camera.

For those that were at the Buena Vista Colorado WCCC, the Rubicon is like Chinaman Gulch on steroids--only harder! There were no seriously hard obstacles, but instead only twelve miles of continuously difficult boulder crawling with assorted steep climbs thown in the mix. Tight twisty, tippy sections, numerous three to four foot drops, awesome scenery and some great folks and impressive rigs on the trail. The 4XGuard sliders took some really hard hits as did the underbelly armor. Jeep Jamboree starts this Friday so there were a lot of the volunteers already on the trail getting set up. The mechanics were already at Rubicon Springs set up ready for repairs. Everyone was helpful and encouraging.

I got several comments about the XK. "That's the first Commander I've seen on this trail," which came from the County Sheriff. "You're the first Commander" which came from the Forest Sevice patrol. I saw no other IFS rigs during the trip (out of perhaps 100 vehicles)! We earned some respect I think.

Hopefully, tonight. I have some more rescaling and uploading to do first, but it's off to San Fran today. The wife's never been there.

And yes, Matt, those rocks are *big*!

How did those new rims fare on the trail?

The rims held up well but the perfect backspace should be closer to 5". There is a lot of rubbing that wasn't there with the Pintlers. It's a fine balance with 33's.

Here are the pics from Day 2. It was harder than Day 1!

Holy crap bro that's awesome right there making it threw such an iconic trail. I wasn't there obviously but it looks like the SA sliders would of saved that door maybe? People most of thought you were out of your mind when they saw you out there.
