I need some help with short notice vacation plans.
We had scheduled another road trip this year for Arizona and Nevada but we are cancelling it at the last minute.

The 17 days off are now cut down to 5.
So it's gonna be a short one.
We are leaving next wednesday and are making some college visits to New York.
Syracuse and SUNY Cortland.
Has anyone spent time in the Adirondacks?
Lake Placid has a Ironman event going on at this time and it doesn't look like we can do much up there.
Lake Champlane and Lake George area's look good but I don't have a lot of time to research.
Any help would be great.
Did find this place that looks fun. http://www.adirondackextreme.com

Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm from Plattsburgh, which is right on Lake Champlain (with the Adirondacks in my backyard), and live in Canton right now which is about 2 hours north of Syracuse. I've never been to that Adirondack Extreme, but it looks pretty sweet. Placid is an awesome place to visit, a lot of history, and a lot to do. But like you said if the Ironman is going, it will be extremely busy. Lake George is a great place to visit as well. A lot of shopping, plenty of things to do, including The Great Escape amusement and water park. If you're up north farther, towards Plattsburgh, Ausable Chasm is pretty cool. I haven't been there in a few years but their website looks like they've added quite a few things. http://www.ausablechasm.com/. If you pin point the area you're going to be in, let me know and I'll see if I can give you any more ideas.

ItsMeKO3,
Had a great trip and did make it to Ausable Chasm, thanks for that lead. Started the day in Tuppers Lake and didn't get to Ausable until 2. That was a haul... Really cool place.
Stayed in Lake Placid for 2 nights, it was crowded with the Iron Man event but not bad by any means. Went to all the olympic sites the bobsled place was fun, they let you hike down inside the chute.
Did a lot of hiking but never got a line in the water.
We will put this place on our list for a revisit.
Thanks for the info...
