Anyone know if Flowmaster 50 is on Amazon that fits the 5.7L

Amhed on JC.com installed the Flowmaster 50 SUV 52556 type, 2.5" on his 5.7L

http://www.amazon.com/Flowmaster-52556-Super-50-Muffler/dp/B000CNN192/ref=au_pf_pfg_s?ie=UTF8&Make=Jeep%7C42&Model=Commander%7C2817&Year=2010%7C2010&carId=002&n=15684181&newCar=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive

Says it won't fit my Jeep on Amazon but that's because it is an aftermarket right? LOL

That will work. The muffler needs to be offset inlet center outlet in 2.5 inch. Thats what amazon lists for that 50 series muffler. Maybe it says it wont fit your Jeep because flowmaster mufflers are about a foot shorter than the oem so when its installed you need a foot section of straight pipe prior to the muffler. Im running the 50 series SUV muffler on my XK. It hard to tell in this picture but this shows the straight pipe in front of the muffler.

Why 2.5"? They make 3" I/O

Isn't smaller less noise? I am not looking for a real obnoxious noise but I definitely dig the sound these flowmasters bring

07JeepXK
07-26-2012, 05:54 AM
Why 2.5"? They make 3" I/O

Well 2.5 is the oem exhaust diameter. If you got a 3 inch it wouldnt just weld right in. You would have to do 3 inch exhaust off the rear of the muffler and have some sort or piece prior to the muffler changing it from 2.5 to 3 inch. They make 3 inch cat back exhaust that bolts right to the oem flange if your looking for 3 inch. But like I said if you just want to cut out the oem muffler and weld in a flowmaster you want 2.5 inch

Matt
07-26-2012, 06:09 AM
I based it off the Flowmaster application guide:
2005 WK 5.7L 50-series PN 9530560
3" offset in / 3" center out

..... figured they didn't change the exhaust system in following years.

Also all ram truck 5.7L applications in our model years have 3" I/O specs.

Guess there's nothing left to do but get out the tape measure! Lol

5.7/4.7 doesnt make a difference. They are both 2.5 inch

Okay thank you! it just seemed small for the Hemi that's the only reason I was questioning the 2.5

I assume a shop would only charge maybe $50-60 for install? I am only paying $20 bucks for it anyway

07JeepXK
07-26-2012, 06:47 AM
My friend just bought a 2006 Hemi XK and installed MBRP 3 inch Cat back exhaust. His oem exhaust was 2.5 inch, the same as my 4.7 Liter. The reason it looks like slightly larger than 2.5 inch is because your measuring the O.D. of the exhaust but it goes by inner diameter where the exhaust flows.

Unless they changed the diameter for the newer XK's. Wouldn't make sense to me.

Last night I rotated the tires on the XK and crawled underneith to check everything out for tomorrow's off road trip. I noticed a nice size dent in my flowmaster muffler. If i still had the oem muffler im pretty sure it would have been destroyed. I love the flowmasters because they are very thick and act like a skid plate!

Matt
07-27-2012, 08:12 AM
I bash my stock exhaust tip on rocks.... its slowly being cut away to remove damage (restrictions). So ummmm, I wouldn't spend any money on an exhaust tip. OR maybe that's a good idea.... cut back the stock tip and get a longer replacement, then remove the new tip for offroading, reinstall when done offroading.

That was my idea originally. Have a shop trim the stock pipe/tip and I will purchase a bolt on exhaust tip and remove when offroading. I will do this in the future I think. With the awesome sound that will come from the flowmaster It'd be nice to have a nice tip :P

Just my opinion I havent seen an exhaust tip that looks good with the XK, I love the hidden tail pipe.. Plus the tip you buy will get pitted and rusted from the winters, I think you will like the discreet look from the exhaust and looks from people when they hear the HEMI WOT!!!

I did see one XK w/ a really nice looking tip and it was polished stainless steal to prevent rust. However, it was on a 4.7L and I am not sure if is made for the 5.7L.

I can't wait to start it up for the first time after the Flowmaster :) I am on the hunt to find a good shop near me to install it.

Mmmm.. something I've started to consider now myself.

I have also tried two SS tips and both turned dark after a while. I have also wondered what it would look like to cut out an upside-down "U" in the bumper, so the tip could then be flush with the bottom of the bumper.

BTW, I wanted to take a picture for you.... I got home from work today and went to cut the lawn. Holy crap you should have seen the condition of the lawn mower. My son put tools, metal stock, rocks, etc EVERYWHERE. I'm lucky I looked behind the battery tray, there were ~20 intricately placed rocks there. Thought you'd get a kick out of that since, at this point, you're the only one on the forum who has played "where's Waldo" with my tools on the tractor lol

4xG diff guard
Rancho 9000XL rear shocks
Matts custom 1/2" rear spacers
Pinch weld mod
Hidden sticker mod
And fixed (temporarily anyways) brake squeak

I'd call that a successful day!

Matt

Actually, i'd say the most successful thing we did today was teach Corey how to use some tools!

Do you have to take rear diff cover completely off and apply new RTV when doing the rear diff guard?

Matt
08-25-2012, 06:27 PM
As long as the diff was sealed with RTV, nope, the bond is not broken. If the diff is sealed with a gasket then yeah, it'll come off so you'll need to re-seal and refill.

07JeepXK
08-25-2012, 06:33 PM

Matt
08-25-2012, 06:36 PM

Yeah when I first purchased the XK I had no intentions off offroading (hence my "Worth the lift" thread on jc.com) but obviously after wheeling for the first time my mind set has done a complete 360. I would be totally lost without such good people to converse and learn from...especially Matt. He has pretty much influenced a lot of my purchases of which all were smart decisions. Now that I will soon have full armor I will feel 100x better on the trails, and now that the armor is 80% complete I can focus on some fun stuff as you mentioned ;p

Sal-XK
08-26-2012, 05:04 PM
Ya we've come a long way since I bought mine. There were a few wheelers but nowhere near this amount of dedicated people doing it and not many doing this much either. Of course Jon and Adam already had nice rigs when I showed up.

Core XK

So since this is no longer just stuff about our jeeps and is pretty much a diary of our lives I will post that these next 2 weeks will be pretty intense for me!

I usually check all police recruiting websites weekly; however, after vacation I fell into a "lazy mode" and hadn't checked anything in weeks. I recently discovered that Bucks County is hiring officers for different boroughs. HOWEVER, I have a week to gather all of the necessary documents because the cut off is next Friday. I am currently in college for my criminal justice degree and I am not graduating until next May nor do I posses the required ACT 120 to become an officer; so I am taking a chance applying to see if they like the results. If I do extremely well on the written exam I still have a chance to be put through the training and offered a job. The first 300 applications received get processed so there is a chance I missed the cut off by its worth the chance!

Sorry I just had to get it all out! lol

matt,

Did the hardware and bracket make it along with the skid plate? I used a couple zip ties to hold that stuff to the fuel tank skid plate. haha

Yeah it looks like its all there. The hardware worked its way out of the zip ties but there was tape holding it in place.

Sure we can put them in Saturday. The Belly Guard SHOULD be there by Saturday as well; however, I didn't order the suspension skid yet :(

What is the Englishtown Show?

Matt

The suspension skid is easy.... hell we can do that at the show!

Englishtown is a car show/ swap meet that's held twice a year. Here's a link to the thread from springtime.

I didn't bother making a thread for September because of the lack of interest.

Sounds good to me, how far is it from you?

Matt

~30 minutes.

Google Englishtown NJ. Its probably less time for you to get there than it takes to get to my house.

His doesn't look bad at all but his XK is darker so I am not sure how mine will look. I like the non-skid tape idea as well...

EDIT: I think we should cover the holes and plasti-dip it? or bedliner but I already have 3 cans of plasti-dip lol

It's painted to match already under there. Just leave it alone so it wont stand out.
