I'm heading back to Rausch Creek Off Road Park to wheel Saturday the 27th of October. I'll be arriving Frinday night, camp there and wheel all day Saturday. Depending on how everything goes ill either drive home that night or stay overnight and head home first thing in the morning on Sunday. Who's all in to see me out wheel Matt's XK!!!!!!
I'm in. Can't wait to find a climb that i walk up and you cant make!
I may end up wheeling Sunday too if my friends decide to come up Saturday night.

Are the Wranglers guys going to attend again??? It was fun having to tow him up the hill climb that he couldnt make it up. It looks pretty bad on the Wrangler community when a Commander with a broke transfer case made it up, backed half way down then proceeded to pull him up. lol

That's good on the superchips! yeah I managed to drag the balance up to 3k so I can't pay it in full anytime soon lol.......only if she knew!

Ouch!! Yea I dont have a limit that high thank God!! only at the jewelry store hahaha. Luckily I only owe $600 out of the 1k available which will be paid by the end of the mth, I like to have that available for last minute trips to the 'Burgh!!!

Yeah to be honest I've never had it this high lol....working at a credit union has its percs but I have a 10k credit limit that I DONT NEED. I really need to take a break after the skids and get it down LOL
Good thing about still being in college is I get HUGE tax returns to pay it off (and buy sliders LOL)

It's ~3-3.5 hrs from here. I normally drive up the night before so i dont have to wake up stupidly early, then just stay at the hotel there.
Note that even if you dont want to take your XK on the trails, you're more than welcome to ride along!!

One of my snow wheeling buddies is in the final stages of his Grand Cherokee build and will be attending RC with us. He mentioned that he has a few things to finish on it but it will be ready. The Grand Cherokee has a 6.0 liter chevy motor under the hood. He is going to tow it to RC with his 2500HD Diesel and just said he can tow my jeep on the trailer there and back also!

Build thread PLEASE!!!!!!
I'm not sure I can pull together a build thread but can give you a few of the details.
It's a complete custom build using a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ body/frame. Original engine/trans/transfer case and axles/suspension were all ripped out. Under the hood is a Chevy 6.0 Liter out of an 01 chevy 2500 bolted up to a 4l60e transmission and NP231c Transfer Case from a S10 blazer. The transmission and transfer case ware built to withstand the power of the enigne. The transfer case received a slip yoke elimintaor kit and custom rear drive shaft. He decided not to use the 4l80e normally found bolted to the 6.0 liter to save on weight and so he could still use the NP231c transfer case. Up front is a Dana 60 spooled with 5.13 gears and custom lift/suspension with 18" fox coilovers. The rear is a GM 14 bolt open diff with 5.13 gears and leafs assisted by 10" coilovers.

The entire Jeep is custom work. The only thing stock on it is the frame and the body. He fabbed up the motor mounts for the 6.0 liter engine as well as a custom transmission crossmember for the transmission and transfer case. Converted the rear end to leafs/coilover suspension and rebuilt the GM 14 bolt axle and had a custom rear drive shaft made. The entire front suspension was totally ripped out and built from the ground up around a dana 60 axle (long arm suspension) with a new front drive shaft and custom lenght coilovers. The lift wasnt purchased as a kit that you bolt on like our XK's. This took months and months of building. Just the engine swap alone makes this a custom build.

My little brother says he will be there this time with his TJ. He also mentioned that the toyota and wrangler that we were creek wheeling with a few weekends ago were also coming. We will see if it actually happens. He's all talk.
But myself and Pat with the lifted Grand Cherokee will be there for sure.
Looks like we'll have a big group for Saturday. I know on Sunday it's at least me, tim and another one of my friends... plus hopefully Jacob

It looks like uhaul will rent me a full trailer with the XK as the tow vehicle. If I don't close on the house, I'm thinking I'll grab the trailer friday morning, head to your place and then come back here and pickup the wife before heading to RC. I'm going to do my best to be there, so right now I even have a contingency plan :p

It's impossible for the trails to be crowded! On the other side of the street are a bunch of easy hill climbs and pure mud. Well not sure how much mud since we haven't had much rain

Nice, I'd like to check that out too. I am excited to be a tad more relax knowing I am protected but I don't intend to push the XK hard, and I want to avoid trails that smack sliders frequently lol (Considering I have no sliders or even OEM rock guards)

This trip will be much like the last one. No worries.
I definitely think two groups will be needed though with the number of vehicles going. A group doing green and some blues and another group doing blues and blacks. If my bother shows up with the guys we usually wheel with they will want to do the blue/blacks im sure so they can split off and go there own way and if anyone want to tag along with them they can.

How about, instead of running around Friday to tow your XJ back.... after wheeling on Saturday you come down to my neck of the woods and then on Sunday we install your track bar bushings and (if needed) more shims and maybe flat tow that bad boy home? (I'll try hooking it up to my XK next weekend if you want, just to see if the + caster it has now helped)

Haha yea. But Jacob might want to with his Cherokee. Some blacks really arent that bad. That blue/black we did was nothing. Didnt even scrape any of my skids.
That's true. His XJ can handle all the blacks there...
That trail we did was only upgraded to blue/black because of that one rocky section. Normally that was just a blue.

Yea, the intent is to get towed there and back. As long as we can fit both vehicles on the trailed. Its going to be a tight fit. I have been really busy lately and havent had much time to work on the XK. I had drill this weekend and next weekend the XK will be gone getting the doors fixed. So I only have the week days to replace a steering pump, steering rack, transfer case and possibly front diff.
That body damage can be repaired after the trip... :p

I wish it could wait until after trip. The damage sustained to the door also caused damage to the lower hinge. Now the door isn't closing properly and is out of alignment. There is a gap between the upper portion of the door above the window and its not sealing properly. So while driving you can hear the wind coming in and when it rains, the water slower makes it way through the door seals. I tweaked the door pretty good on that trip. Its not really costing me anything to get the door fixed, but it will be at my friends shop all next weekend. I'll probably work on other issues with the XK while its getting fixed and painted.
For those who don't have "friends" in the business.... that sure makes the $500 price tag for sliders seem worth it!

Adam, I was talking to my fiance about what happen to your door and sliders for x-mas. Keep in mind my fiance hates my jeep LOL but...
She said to me why waste $600 on sliders when we know a body shop guy. At first I had to think but just realized she smashed my bumper on my old XK and it was atleast 500-700 worth of repairs. Her uncle who is a philly cop knows a guy who does CHEAP really good work for him and his family and we ended up getting it fixed for 150. I completely forgot about him so now I feel a bit better about no sliders LOL
She wants me to get the front guard and roof basket instead of the sliders....*sigh*

Honestly, if you don't go crazy and stick to the type of off roading we did last time at Raucsh Creek then sliders really aren't needed. I have been hard core wheeling my XK for well over 4 years now with this being the first major body damage to the XK. I cant even honestly say that the SA Sliders would have prevented the damage. I was in a ravine going up a huge hill that was all rutted up and tree roots protruding out the side of the ravine caught the door. It would have gone right over top of the slider. Now if money isnt a problem then yea get the sliders. They look amazing and will still prevent damage in other situations. Just wouldnt have helped in mine.

Without the sliders you'll always be "at risk" of that type of damage. If you're only going wheeling once in your life, then OK there benefit/cost probably isn't there. But if they prevent that damage just ONCE, they've paid for themselves.

Yeah but with that being said, your 4xguard sliders don't provide any protection to the doors. A slider like SA is the best way to go

Though my 4xG have saved my rockers on numerous occasions. Lol specifically last trim when Tim failed to mention I was about to drop off a rock (great video btw hahaha)

SA Sliders are $499 bare (No plate or paint) + whatever shipping is
4xG are $582 including shipping to PA (I think their East Coast distributor is in PA)
So depending on shipping for SA it is not a large difference but it depends on how quickly Jon can produce them at the moment. Other then that, unless you do what USMC did with his SA sliders they do not cover everything for a stock look like 4xg.
I don't really mind the covering part since I already removed my stock rockers and modified the looks. I can't make up my mind but I do agree that SA are better as far as capability. Hands down.

Appearance wise I prefer the 4xGuard, but when I do purchase it will be SA for sure. I still have to get Matts spacers installed on the rear just havent had much time either. Adam you plan on staying on blues or you going crazy wtih your friends on the blacks? I want to hit more difficult trails then last time since I have skids but as Corey pointed out Im trying to be smart as well!!

Sucks to hear about Tcase! Im still having tire issues which will get addressed this week as well as an alignment. Hopefully the leak is just at valve stems and I dont need tires or else this trip wont happen!! Either way MT/Rs are going on just a matter of when..
So looks like this is gonna be a Saturday only trip for me. Scheduling travel back to NC for that following Monday.

This trip isn't looking good for me. Having a drive train issue that I'm trying to figure out. It's getting worse and worse everyday. Found a transfer case out of a v8 grand Cherokee with 52,000 but they want $650 for it :0(

Well its not looking good, One of the tires was leaking at the bead, not a big deal but the other which i was concerned about is leaking from the corner of sidewall and tread in 2 places. Even if they do something to stop it Im sure running them low is going to cause a problem. Hes gonna see what he can do and see if it will hold air atleast til I can get new ones. Looks like MTRs are coming my way but its going to have to wait til next month. EXTREMELY frustrated considering everything Ive done to get the XK ready for this trip and its not looking good....

I wish I werent bailing!! Trust me Ive been talking/thinking about this trip for awhile!! Not to mention the mods Ive done so I could hit some blues/blacks. Just cant take the risk that far away, I guess its for the better though Ill get the MTRs earlier and have those beasts for the winter months. This is just pushing all the other mods, headers cames etc, out further! Getting a great deal on the MTRs, $1000 mounted/balanced and aligned, not bad considering tires alone are $980 on tirerack.com. Ill be ready for January trip!
We'll make the Jan trip worth it!

I got more air than Corey in the same spot.
Coreys picture was taking about 3 feet forward of yours where the passenger rear tire started coming up that ledge.

Looks like you guys had a blastm I want more details on the almost roll over and damage!!
The pictures in post 171 were the spot. I was trying to make it over those rocks but my driver side slider was holding my up and the driver side rear tire was just hanging behind the rock and not even touching the ground (LOVE sliders!). So I tried a line further to the passenger side. It felt good, until I slid down a bit and my passenger front went SKY high (I dont have pics of it, hoping someone took video).
And then the red jeep almost flipped there too. That picture of him very off camber was when he got close to flipping.
The bronco busted a rear driveshaft and had to drive out with front wheel drive. The red jeep blew some "plugs" out of his power steering pump (didnt know he needed to put bolts in there), Jacob got a cut in his radiator... i think that was it...

The tires did good. I've had the Toyo ATs before so I knew what to expect. Not as much grip as the Duratracs, but they were definitely not the limiting factor that prevented me from doing any obstacles.

Yeah, the lack of belly clearance & suspension travel. Remember my front suspension has less than 2 inches of down travel left, so when I was hung up on that rock the front tires just skimmed the dirt a bit. Only tire that had some traction was my right rear but it just spun on a rock.

Zone offroad has a kit. But i believe its just the BDS lift re-branded which is not something I would install on my XK. There were a lot of issues with that kid and it has a very low hanging front crossmember.

What kills me besides the lift being unavailable, is the cost. SImilar kits for the wranglers are $600-800 but it goes to 1500 for the XK cause no one makes a lift. Wish someone would come out with another solution
There are no "similar" kits for wranglers.....IFS is the problem. For any platform, a good IFS list runs 1300-1800 depending on "options". What kills me is the SL is on the high end price range for IFS lifts and it only comes with a bigass front spacer instead of an upgraded strut like the other higher priced IFS kits.

A friend of mine is looking at getting a WK and wants my lift, I havent considered selling it to him cause they arent any options. I know I said itd be awhile before Id go SL but if I can sell my lift for $600-650, its only $900 out of pocket to have SL.. Being that its not available I cant even consider this scenario reality..

I believe there are alot of questions with that lift that no one has answers for, I think Sal was the one questioning things about it..
I knew what you meant about lift size. Just saying that the suspensions are so different that there's no real comparison. A similar sized lift on vehicles with similar suspensions as ours is a lot more than the wrangler lifts. However there are some expensive wrangler lifts as well when you start looking at long arm kits.
Maybe Jon will get some more info from a superlift rep at SEMA?
JBA upgrades the strut with coilovers but you think the SL is pricey! They are way over priced!

The coilovers still don't help. You can only get so much down travel out of our stock suspension components. The JBA 4" lift is basically like stacking spacer lifts and throwing on his UCA's. Kiss the steering rack, CV's and lower balljoint and tie-rods goodbye.

Yeah we've had a few threads on this subject over the years. I've yet to see a 4" JBA lifted vehicle in person. I have a feeling though that it's really only a 3" increase in height, like a lot of us are running with the OME+1/4" spacer. From the pics i've seen of it on WK's, it doesn't look as tall as the superlift.

I refuse to install a snorkel on my XK.... then i'd just be temped to take it in water way too deep! I'm happy keeping my XK on the trails; the deep water stuff just destroys too many parts that I don't feel like fixing anymore :p
