That means theres no active codes, BUT there can still be "pending" codes. A basic code reader is worth the investment for situations like yours... for $110-$130 you can get a pretty good one that'll also allow you to monitor sensors while the engines running to see if any are giving readings that dont make sense.

are there programers that would also do this?

Get the phone app and cable. Or be really cheap and buy the code reader, clear the codes and return the reader to where ever you bought it.....

Ditto on the app. My Android has Torque Pro and my OBD II Bluetooth interface is a $20 eBay special. I can read and reset codes, watch a gazillion engine params with charts or virtual gauges, etc. The entire investment (besides time waiting two weeks for a packet to arrive from China) is about $30.

What is the app called and have a link to the cable you got?

The BT device is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230823483981&ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:US:3160

There is no cable, it's Bluetooth. (wireless)

Torque is on Google Play here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&hl=en
