View Full Version : Sorry guys.... looks like im taking a break from wheeling..

It's not 100% yet, but it looks like I sold my Liberty. Well, it would be 100% but the buyer didn't get approved for the loan at the bank so she has to wait for her insurance check to come (her vehicles got flooded during the hurricane).

So today I put the car seats in the Commander which will be my DD again. BTW I broke the back panel on one of my seats trying to figure out how to get the damn headrest off  (they don't work with my new forward facing carseats).

As my DD, i'll have to tone down my wheeling a bit. Not to mention that I still have to install the new UCA's and LCA's... which I was going to do today but ended up cleaning the Liberty instead.

The GOOD news is that i'm going to get those MC6-R shocks and possibly a SA rear bumper to get the spare tire off the roof. I may even take the roof rack off to cut down on wind resistance (but probably not). I have to admit, i'm already feeling good about this "no car payments" thing

Well the good news is your keeping the XK so in time you will be back on the trails again.

Thats the truth!

I just had a buddy lift an 89 xj... so worst case ill lead a few trail rides from his passenger seat. :)

So if your selling the liberty, does your wife have a vehicle to drive??

We have a base model 01 Accord that I bought from my father-in-law for cheap. That and our Liberty have been our DD's.

Nice. There might be a new 2013 JK in the driveway tomorrow. It's a Gray two door hard top. 3.6 liter VVT with 6 speed manual trans, rear Dana 44 with 3.73s and limited slip. It was a special order that was never sold once it arrived at the dealer. All the other Wranglers on the lot have 3.21 gears with the new 3.6 liter (besides the Rubicons which have 4.10).

No I'm being serious. My XK isn't going anywhere trust me. Kim might be trading her 06 Cobalt in for it tomorrow afternoon. We test drove it today and we both like it a lot! She needs a 4x4 and I really got her into jeep!

Well if I can ever get a day off work, Matt, you can always be a co-pilot with me, when we all go wheeling!!!

Welp, yesterday was a complete waste of time. They tried low balling Kim on her cobalt for trade in price. They said they would give her $1,800 for it, which was 20 minutes after the sales man said private party was $5,100 for her car. We just put over $1,000 into it in the past two months getting ready for inspection and winter so we walked out.

A few month ago (prior to sinking $1,000 into it and the check engine light being on) another Jeep dealer in the area said they would give her $3,250 for it. I feel insulted by the $1,800 they offered Kim for the car.

I know exactly what you are going through Matt. My WK has always been the DD, but I did wheel it occasionally. Nowadays its more of like "keep the jeep healthy" than "lets wheel the crap outta it" type mentality since I paid it off last month.

I need this thing to last for sure. I myself need to buy some UCA's I think, just as preventive maintenance since my stock ones have 100k on them 50k of that is being lifted. Maybe I will be able to get some new wheels and sell the spacers and JK rims to offset the cost. It will make the jeep safer, or at least thats what I will tell the wife :)

Ill still take it wheeling... but wont be as brave lol. Either way I need to get another vehicle in the near future (hence my "minivan vs suburban" thread). The key is we're also putting our house up for sale in January... so its a spider web of "what ifs"...

Oh... and btw we're looking for a larger house because baby #3 is coming this June (just told the families Sunday). Lol so ive got A LOT on my mind im trying to figure out now especially since my son has a Nov birthday so he'll be in daycare longer than most kids.

Thanks man! My son just turned 3 and my daughter turns 2 in June.... around the same time #3 is due.

Lol im definitely the "oldest" 28 year old I know.

If we get a new house, a 3rd vehicle is out of the question for a while and we'll squeeze the car seats in the Commander. Im most likely going to get the SA rear bumper so I can carry around the full sized spare and get cargo space on the roof back.

I actually just got two Radian R100s. With those I can fit our baby seat inbetween them. We'll get two more for our car next summer.

Installing them in the xk was a pita.... I broke all the clips on the seat back trying to take it apart so I could get the headrests off. Took some internet searching to learn about the hidden release clip! Doh

So they do all fit? i havent gotten around to finding the infant seat and doing a test fit. Hidden release clip? guess i have to do some more research, was going to attempt the head rests this sunday

Yeah they do all fit (whew!)

I'll take a quick video tonight showing how the headrests release.... even the info I found online is cryptic.

Hey Matt, congrats on the good news! I hear ya on taking it easy. Since you & I did my lift (feb) I've been outta work still and have had 3 surgeries so far. It looks like #4 will be scheduled next week,so I've just babied the XK all year,no offroading for me. Good luck with everything.

Matt

Man you've been busy with those surgeries man! Hope #4 goes well for you!

I think all us NJ (and surrounding area) guys need to get together for a dinner meet some night in December. We got a lot of good guys around here.... would be nice to catch up with everyone! Could bring significant others as well
