After several days of contemplating getting 285/70's again or making 305/70's fit I have decided to go with the 305's. My jeep is paid off and now has 143,500 miles so I figured I'll put it under the knife once again. I'm all about the low COG with the XK and not needing a big lift to fit bigger tires. I made 285's fit with zero rubbing off road so I'll do the same with the 305's. I talked to Goodyear tody and could have the tires in the next few weeks!

Front trimming will take place once I get my hands on a jig saw. Already have everything planned out for that. With the pinch weld mod I did over a year and a half ago I will have no problem clearing the 34's up front. I'm going to take an inch off all the way around the front flares, take out the plastic inner fender well liners and install rubber liners to protect the engine bay. For the rear, looking to add a 1/2 lift spacer above the coil and lengthen the bump stop about an inch. For the rear flare if need be it will get trimmed like the front but only about 1/4 inch and the rear fender well liners will come out. I sprayed behind the liners last summer with rubberized undercoating so Ill be set

So my plans have changed now. I'll be installing 4 inch Superlift springs and shocks in the rear that I'm getting from Kyle. I shouldn't have any problem clearing the 34's in the rear now and best of all no trimming needed! Once the rear Superlift shocks blow I'll purchase the fox shocks that matt is running.

Well the front is getting done tomorrow. I'm hoping to get Kyle the money tomorrow so he can ship the Superlift springs and shocks. So I'll probably get them next week. The day I receive them I'll do the rear install. Once that's done I go to Goodyear to order the tires. They said they would be there the next day. So hopefully by Friday next week I'll be Rollin on fat meats!

Thanks. The rear is getting the Superlift 4 inch coils so I should clear fine back there. If not I think I can only gain about a 1/2 inch of clearance by trimming the rear flares without having to really cut things up

07JeepXK
11-05-2013, 09:46 AM
Looks like my Superlift coils and shocks will be here next week Tuesday. 8 days from SC to NY through USPS but no big deal. This will give me some time to get make some rear drop down brackets for the brake lines and come up with a solution for longer bump stop spacers. When I rebuild the front this winter it's definitely getting JBA 1/4 inch strut spacers as the rear will be to high for my liking.

I can't wait to get these tires on my jeep. I've always wanted to run 34's! Working on trying to locate 1/4 longer studs for my front wheel bearings. If anyone knows where I can get them or a part number please let me know. I was told the stock studs are 1/2 x 20 for the threads. Just not sure what lengths the stock ones are.

Yea its got a HEMI.. Haven't called him yet, have a few TJs that have my attention..

Do a google search for it, there are a few alces that sell studs and you can order the ones you want. Plenty of 240 guys do this to run different offsets and spacers, etc.. Ill try and find the name of the place

The Superlift springs and shocks arrived early but Kyle accidentally sent the wrong bushings for the shocks. I should have them next week sometime. Still trying to find a longer bump stop spacer. Might stop by the local off road shop today and see if he has anything laying around.

Matt
11-09-2013, 05:33 AM
Why not use body lift pucks? You can get them in 3", 2" and 1.5" and 1".... mix and match to get the length you want. Given the size tires you want to run i'd say start with a 3"+1.5"...

Here's 3, 2 and 1" spacers:

I'm currently using a 3 inch performance accessories body lift spacer that I got from the local shop but they are only 2 inches wide. I want to go with the 3 inch wide this tome. I guess I could always just double stack them like you mentioned.

Matt
11-09-2013, 07:43 AM

07JeepXK

So it turns out I only had 2 inch bump stop spacers installed, not 3 inch. Well now I have 4 inch bump stop spacers, 4 inch Superlift springs, drop down brackets for the brake lines, extended my sway bar end links and track bar. Just waiting on the bushings for the shocks so I can install them. Stage 2 complete, next up 34 inch tires!!!!

07JeepXK
11-10-2013, 07:20 AM
So the rear was sitting at 39 inches from the ground to the flares on both sides when I measured after install last night. I just measured again this morning to see if anything settled from the ride home last night and now the drivers side is at 38 1/2 and the passenger side is still at 39 inches. I didn't get gas or anything so not sure why I lost 1/2 inch on the drivers side only. I hate to say it Kyle but I might need to reinstall Matts 1/2 inch rear lift spacer on the drivers side to get that 1/2 inch back. Especially because I only have 1/4 tank of gas!

07JeepXK

Filled the gas tank, remeasured and I'm sitting just under 39 inches on the drivers side now. I'm confused as to how that happened but whatever. 07JeepXK

Tires are ordered! Now let's just hope and pray they clear where the UCA ball joint bolts to the steering knuckle. It's going to be close since they are such a tall tire with stock steering knuckles.

This is kind of a dark picture but this is with my current 33's. The 34's are obviously an inch taller and approx 3/4 of an inch wider.

Lekmedm I'll flex it out tomorrow but like you said as the rear compresses the tire will go backwards so it shouldn't be an issue. The 4.7 liter does quite well with the 34's but I wish I had some better brakes. Those EBC pads and rotors would be great right about now but way to expensive. You may have to look into the EBCs or Stillens, just dont get the slotted rotors..

07JeepXK
11-13-2013, 08:51 AM
Why not slotted? I'd take slotted over drilled any day. EBC has dimpled and slotted but are crazy expensive

06JeepXKHEMI
11-13-2013, 09:15 AM
We've had this discussion on here about slotted or drilled off road and **** getting stuck in there. Not sure it'd be an issue but the whole idea of slotted and/or drilled is to dissipate heat and unless youre increasing the rotor there's not much stopping POWER provided, that is unless youre constantly braking hard which youre clearing not doing with 34" MTRs!! I'd look into upgraded pads and blank rotors personally thats just my opinion.. Previously on cars like the 240s Ive put slotted/drilled rotors and had worse braking even with brembo's, so Ive always stuck to good blank rotors and the best pads I could find.. Just my 2cents

By the way you brought up a good point on facebook.. You think you'll be more prone snapping a CV due to the 34s?

Matt
11-13-2013, 09:59 AM
For rotors I stick with Centric performance grade. They're cryogenically treated which help with wear, geometric stability during heat cycles and rust prevention. Ive installed them on countless vehicles and never a complaint..... and they're all ive ever run on my vehicles as well, including every lifted rig. They're very affordable as well.

For pads I always run Akebono ProACT Ultras and again, always impressed. For your case though id be interested in the Akebono Performance Ultra pads (ASP1080 for the front and ASP1087 for the rear).

I usually order from Rockauto.com. ... not sure if they list the Performance series so might have to order them elsewhere. I think Advanced Auto sells Akebono brand parts so they might be worth calling.

07JeepXK
11-13-2013, 02:02 PM
Matt, Rock auto only lists PROACT performance ultra pads. The part #'s are ACT1080 and ACT1087, not ASP 1080 and ASP 1087. So are you running the ultras or performance ultras? I'm cunfused cause rock auto only list performance ultras

Matt
11-13-2013, 02:16 PM
Im running the ACT version that rockauto sells. Ive never sprung for the "better" ASP version since ive always been happy/impressed with the ProACT. Since you're looking at the best performance you can get at a reasonable price, id get the ASP version.

Rockauto might have the description incorrect. ...
ACT = ProACT Ultra (oem quality)
ASP = Performance Ultra (high performance grade)

07JeepXK
11-13-2013, 07:09 PM

Wow those are very inexpensive. Sure they're good rotors? The ones I have been using are almost double that price

Positive. There's not a 200% markup for brand naming or marketing. Those centric rotors are used in thousands of shops daily so you're also saving from economy of scale.

Ive been preaching for a long time on these forums that you guys are throwing money away with your brakes. Buy skids and other offroad goodies with the money you're saving. :)

Have y'all seen the Trailhawk grand Cherokee that Jeep is bringin to this years easter jeep safari?

Apparently they fit 35's with no additional lift or suspension components, but just by trimming. I'm pretty surprised they could run such a large tire on that rig with no lift.

Better yet, they even swapped in some portal axles on a 4 door JK!

I'd so buy a new Grand Cherokee diesel if I could fit my 34 inch MT/R's on it!

With 420 ft-lb's a torque, you wouldn't have a problem gettin 'em rollin either.

Do you still have the OME springs for the rear?

I'm lookin to go a similar route as Corey and stack my daystar spacer with these springs to hopefully level out the rear. I'm currently sitting at just over 38" (HD OME/RR 3/16" spacer) in the front and just under 37" in the rear (daystar spacer/ f-150 monroes). If it ends up givin to much rake I'll most likely just cut the front flares a bit to give a somewhat more level look. If you're wanting to get rid of you're old springs I'd be willing to buy 'em off ya.

After flexing out the Jeep I doubt I'll even bother with rear upper and lower adjustable control arms. The rear tires stuff perfectly centered in the wheel well. My bump stops turned out to be perfect length

Exactly. There really isn't a need for them and I can think of other things to spend the money on

Incredible job on cutting the bumper and flare. Did you use a manual saw or an electric jigsaw ? How did you clean up the cut ? Looks factory, I have black metallic bumper and flares and hopefully I can get a similar result.

I just used a regular jigsaw that plugs into the wall. I really didn't do anything to clean up the cut as it came out pretty good. This jeep is paid off so I wasn't to worried about it. It's been wheeled had and has seen better days lol
