I never really considered starting a garage thread because I figured I'd just do a couple things and be done...well we all know how that turns out. So I figured I'd start one. It'll be slow compared to most others, but here it is.

My Jeep is a 2007 XK Limited, 4.7 Flex, QDII, brown leather, nav, dvd, etc. Pretty much every possible option. I bought it in Nov. 2011 with approximately 53,000 miles on it. I've driven it the past two years to now (Nov. 2013) completely stock and I'm at 95,000 miles. This is where my mods are beginning. Hopefully this will be very budget friendly, as I buy tons of stuff second hand.

MODS CURRENTLY ON THE JEEP:
Superchips Flashpaq 3875 ($150 used off CL)
Rough Country 2" spacer lift ($120 unopened off CL)
265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs ($120 used off CL)
265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STT for a spare ($40 used tire shop)

Here she is right after buying it, Nov. 2011

Before lift in Nov. 2013

Rough Country 2" spacer lift installed with stock tires

265/70/17 GY Wrangler Duratracs mounted on stock wheels, no spacers. There is some rubbing at full lock and not much room to spare at the UCA studs.

Thanks y'all. Yeahhh, as if I didn't already have enough expensive hobbies. Boats and fishing, hunting, handguns, golf, and now apparently Jeepin'...needless to say I'm broke as hell, but at least I have cool toys! After all, he who dies with the most toys wins, right?

Treated her to a little maintenance today after our 4.5 hour drive home. Mobil 1 synthetic oil change, new wiper blades, new rear wiper blade, and a seafoam treatment. Whew did billow smoke for a while. It was about time for the seafoam at 96,000 now. Also ran some in the oil and gas for the last 125 miles of the trip.

Found a roof rack on Craigslist that I'm planning on picking up tonight. Nothing special, just the big Rage rack, same as Sal's. Pics to come hopefully! It'll sure be nice I have for moving next week.

The move to Augusta has started. Hooked up for trip #1. Jeep and trailer are both loaded floor to ceiling. I'm thinking a set of MLL's needs to be my next mod!!!

Yeah I'd say some MLL's are pretty much necessary lol.

First haul of the junk went well. Hooked up tonight to head back to get the rest, and no running lights on the trailer, F#*%! Everything else is working fine, turn signals, brake lights, interior lights...just no running lights. Haven't gotten it sorted out yet. Most of my tools are still in Raleigh so I don't have a multimeter handy. Had to postpone and head up in the morning and come back Sunday morning in the daylight. Plan was to go tonight and come back tomorrow night.

And, it's leaking transmission fluid. A lot of it. Haven't gotten a real good look in the daylight but possibly from the rear of the tranny at the transfer case. I've also been reading about the o ring at an electrical connector that seems common.

Also went and met up with another member from here and XK owner at the Jeep Masters of Augusta club meeting this week.

Had enough. Pretty sure I'm going to be selling it. Broke down and left me stranded today half way between Augusta and Raleigh. Threw the CEL and the codes were the lean codes on both banks. Wrote down the actual codes but don't have them handy. Had it towed 30 miles to a dealer and it wouldn't start to get it in a parking space. Feels like the fuel pump is running but symptoms seem like it doesn't have any fuel pressure. It's one thing after another and this is like the 4th or 5th time it's been in the shop since September.

Also found out the trailer light issue from last night is in the jeep. They work perfectly on my buddy's truck.

I bought it used at 50,000. It made it to about 85-90,000 trouble free, and now the damn thing is falling apart at 98,4xx.

The dealer thought it was the fuel pump, replaced it, and it's still not running right. But it does start and run now at least. They don't know what's wrong with it now.

How much weight were you towing? It doesn't help that your lifted with larger tires. The bigger tires make the engine work harder causing the weight you can pull to go down a hair. I could never pull a trailer with my 4.7 liter and 34's unless it was small and only weighed a few thousand lbs on flat roads with no hills

It was about 14' enclosed tandem axle. It was empty, so probably 3000-ish.

Now they're saying everything points to the FCM needing replaced. Another backordered part, no idea on ship date.

You could try a few local scrap yards... pull one from a donor vehicle.

I thought they needed to be VIN programmed but guys on JF have been installing them plug&play style to fix the recall issues

Yup all plugs and play. Did the QT I to QT II swap on a V6 back in the day and it was all plug an play

Sorry to jack the thread, but I was unaware anyone had successfully done this swap. What all was needed to go from QT-I to QT-II?

That's the FDCM (Final Drive Control Module) they're swapping plug and play. This dealer is saying my FCM (Front Control Module) is what needs replaced.

A donor V6 QTII Commander or Grand Cherokee

This may have been the shortest lived garage thread ever! Traded her today on a 2013 F150 XLT supercab 5.0L 4x4, also black ;) I'll post a picture of it tomorrow in the daylight.

As much as I like the layout and idea of my XK, I pity whoever gets that damn thing next. Mine seems victim of typical Chrysler quality...built to self destruct right around 5 years old and/or 100,000 miles. It must have been built on a Friday afternoon. This is the first time I've ever felt relieved to get rid of a vehicle.

Anyways, here's the new truck.

no ecoboost?

andyb

no ecoboost?

Nope. Went with the 5.0L. I'm not sold on the ecoboost reliability once it gets on up in mileage. And I have second thoughts on the cost of repairing one with the twin turbos once it's no longer under warranty. That's a ton of power and stress to squeeze out of only a 3.5L motor. Many real world driving accounts scattered around F-150 forums really show a negligible difference in MPGs between the two. In my test drives (drove 4, 2013 EB and 5.0 and 2014 EB and 5.0) I couldn't really tell a significant difference enough to justify the cost and, to me, the risk. Lastly, it sounds like a f'in mini van. Can't drive a truck that sounds that bad. :D

I think you made the right choice, regardless I could never drive a V6 gas truck. V8 or diesel
