looks like some nasty fun mud!

It was heavy and thick. I must have brought home 200 lbs of it that I washed off in the driveway.

I just found out yesterday Im getting stationed in juneau alaska. There will be plenty of snow pics/vids coming up after this summer when I move. The xk told me she was happy to go somewhere and be of actual use.

Heres a pic from juneau to whet the appetite....

Pulled a Dodge 1500 pickup out of the mud yesterday. The guy thought that because he put some Nitto Terra Grapplers on his 2 wheel drive pickup he would take on some soupy muddy trails. I stopped and pulled him out with ease and he was amazed.

Frankly the guy knew nothing. He didn't even know how to disable his traction control which kept his wheels from spinning at all. It was kinda sad.

There is a video out there somewhere (YOUTUBE?) that shows a Commander trying to pull another midsize SUV out of a mud/waterhole and it fails miserably every time. You hear the engine running and winding.... but there is no pulling. The traction control is on and none of the wheels ever turn for more than a split second.

Makes the Commander look ridiculous as other SUVs participate in the fun with no problem.

superacerc
04-10-2013, 09:49 AM
I've pulled several vehicles out of various mishaps. I always use 4 low which negates the basic traction control nannies anyway. It felt like I could rip the truck in half it pulled so easily. I have to be careful not to tear them up. Ive also dragged high centered vehicles out on their bellies with no wheels on the ground without even straining my 4.7 one bit.

Ordered a bigger turbo for my subaru. Going to put me at 465hp at the crank 400ish to the wheels. The pistons can't take more than that really even though this turbo can push me over 500hp at the crank. It's going to be a blast. Right now I'm around 405 at the crank. Should easily put me in the 11s quarter mile and around 3.5sec to 60.

Drove the xk on the beach yesterday. Had some good salty muddy fun and had to drive into the surf to get around some logs on the beach at one section. I'll be thoroughly cleaning and wd-40ing the underside tomorrow.

Here's a video clip of my Subaru with the new turbo. It's only got a bit of initial tuning on it so far. Needs about 3psi more and some extra timing. Sounds like a beast! Also I've got some Hella 9000 series going on the XK in about 2 weeks. 2 pencil beams for the center top lights and 2 floods for the outside lights on top. My two hella 500s are going on the rear now.

Its pretty amazing. Quite addictive. The only thing bad about it is nothing seems fast anymore except some exotics and a select few muscle cars that are pretty much dead even with me without professional drivers.

This turbo demands a very different driving style from the last one. I'm mostly top end power now. The oem was all low end, my second turbo was all mid range.

I use cobb access tuner race. I just put the turbo on and was doing initial tuning. I've got a lot more to smooth out.

Mostly. My buddy forgot to bring the plugs/pigtails but all the wiring is there from my old lights so all i have to do is butt splice the 8 wires together. The back hellas are hooked up though. He's supposed to bring me the plugs tomorrow or Wednesday. Can't wait to see the light... literally. These things are about 9"in diameter and super heavy.

Lost a crank bearing on the Subaru monday on the way to work. Seizing the moment, I ordered a built block from dallas with forged pistons, rods, crank, and race bearings. This one's supposed to handle about 550hp. Driving up there tomorrow morning to get the short block and bring it back to my dealer. Should be good to go by early next week.

In jeep news: the hellas are all good to go and super bright. Love em.

In Old truck news, been driving it in place of the subaru to work. Figured I'd take a few random videos. Here ya go:

superacerc

4eat stock auto tranny. Im sure thatll be the next item to be replaced with a built version. The subaru auto is pretty stout (knock on wood) and the turbo ive got brings power in at such a late point it never shocks the drivetrain. Ill ne hanging around 410 to the wheels on this turbo.

So are you running that weight of oil the whole time or just for break in?

criket
06-21-2013, 09:09 AM
since it's high in Zinc, it should just be for break in.

superacerc
06-21-2013, 09:16 AM
The performance shop actually said to break it in for 500 miles with non synthetic 5w30 then switch to that amsoil or rotella t6 which has more zinc as well. For whatever reason the high zinc is preferred by most high performance subaru tuners. No idea why though.

Just put an optima yellow top battery in. Got the same one knapster had(d34/78). Only real fitting I had to do was bend the 90° post configuration straight out which was no problem to do by hand. I did have to lengthen one 18 gauge ground wire with just a piece of wire and double butt splice but nothing drastic.

Optima and parts stores dont list this as a direct fit due to the posts not being a perfect fit. There is a d35 that could possibly fit the oem post configuration but its about 200 cold crank amps less. Other than that it fits perfect including the factory battery clamp.

Had to recharge my a/c today. It went a bit low so I added some. That was too much so I let some out. Without real gauges and wanting to get it right before I head out to alaska I figured I'd just take it and have it vacuumed and replaced. Works great again. Took it to the place that did my f100 work so they only charged me 2/3 price. $60 + tax.

Got into some hills in South Oklahoma and although it made it fine, it started running warm if I was too throttle happy up the Hills. Here's where I'm kicking myself for not getting the 5.7.

I'm going to trade the truck for the boat tonight since it weighs half as much. My dad is using a rented uhaul van to pull the boat from ga and when we meet tonight in Kansas we're going to swap. Should do much better unless the sail area is too much for it.

The third day I'll be driving through the Rocky mountains so I'm going to switch trailers again and remove the truck so the xk is only pulling the empty car trailer through the mountains. Ill be driving the truck through the twisties with the windows down for maximum effect.:D

Looks like my tranny is acting up pulling this load. I'm in washington already so I may be saying my goodbyes to the jeep tomorrow and trading it in. I'm going to pull the rack and everything off the top tonight I guess. Ive got a coveted defender roof rack that will be up for grabs.

Paul do you mind if I leave the rack with you so if someone wants it itll be cheaper to ship or they can get it locally? Ill pull off the 4xguard and steel belly pan too probably if anyone wants those.

Hate to see the old girl go but I cant take an unreliable vehicle to the middle of nowhere.
