I figured I'd start my garage here since i didn't get around to it on the old site. Also because i'm about to add a few things that are going to change the XK.

The mostly basic commander as I have it now. It does already have a 2.5 lift.

These are the Hankook Dynapro M/T's 265/70/17R

Those are the tow hooks. Cost me a solid 29 dollars from auto zone! I didn't feel like paying mopar another 100 dollars for the mounts. I do plan on removing the bumper and straigtening out the cut out areas but it was late when i put them on and the mosquitos started to feast!

My other off roaders. They see more off-road use than my jeep sadly. There are many more mx tracks here in houston than there are places to wheel (and not get into trouble).

Other side of the Garage is a 68 Ford Falcon Futura Sports Coupe.
You can see the Defender Roof Rack below it waiting for tomorrow night to be put on the commander.

They Seemed to go on easy enough and there is no play if you put the proper bolts and washers.
I Haven't had a chance to try em out just yet so tomorrow on the way to work will be the test run. (Doubt I'll notice too much on the street)

Swapped out the spark plugs today. It was starting to run a little rough and now is superb. Here's a pic of a worn plug:

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2010/10/IMG_2106-1.jpg

I'm going to try and put my offroad lights up tomorrow. Hope they look alright. I originally wanted 6-7inch rounds but found a decent set of rectangular ones. We shall see what they look like tomorrow.

superacerc
10-03-2010, 06:32 AM
After changing the plugs the 4.7 runs completely different. It must have been pretty bad off with those old plugs. Not only does it idle better but has better throttle response and acceleration. It honestly feels like a different engine. Since I've had it, it has always felt a tad sluggish but not anymore. I would suggest to anyone with near 40k or more miles on the 4.7 to go ahead and switch out the plugs.

superacerc
10-03-2010, 03:47 PM
THey are definitely budget lights. That's all right though. I've wired them with large enough wire to put in some higher watt lights later on. I'll probably take out the middle two and put them in the rear when I can get some money for a 100 watt 6-7 inch round set. I need to aim them a bit higher at the moment. They aim down not too far in front of me at the moment probably due to the slope of my commander without a leveling spacer in front.

Had a rattle issue coming from passenger side front wheel area. It was sounding kind of dangerous so i pulled the wheel off to have a look. I noticed that the bracket holding the caliper to the wheel assembly was a bit loose and tightened it down. No more rattles.

While I was playing around with it yesterday i decided to take off the rear(only) sway bar connections and give it a test drive. I notice almost no difference at any speed of sway no matter how violently i turn the wheel. It feels almost as if i did nothing to it except when i run over uneven road surfaces my whole commander doesnt go side to side anymore and the body stays flatter. I'm going to leave them off unless i find a reason to put them back on. It's a more pleasing ride in my opinion.

4xGuard Front Skid Plate should be here today. I'll try and get some pics in tomorrow.

superacerc
10-08-2010, 11:13 AM
I put the 4xguard plate on this morning. It went smoothly and looks great. Before I mounted it i put rubberized undercoating on the bottom part of my bumper where the guard covers. I like the black background better. I also changed the rear brake pads.

So many parts how could they ever fit together?
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2010/10/IMG_2132-1.jpg

Using the described install method on the instructions. It sure would have been tough without the jack unless I had a second person to help. You can see the taped off sections where I just finished painting the Undercoat on.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2010/10/IMG_2133-1.jpg

Well I guess I did have a helper but she wasn't quite up to the task of holding the guard up to the jeep.

Thanks everyone. I'm debating at the moment taking off the plastic pinch weld covers running along the middle of the vehicle's bottom. I kind of like the look and they really serve no purpose. If I took them off I'd use the rubber undercoating along the pinchweld to darken that area and make the seam less obvious. I eventually want the supersliders from rocky road to put in this area.

Thanks. I bought the truck in september of 2006. It's still not finished but it's pretty darn close. You can see from the picture I posted there are no locks in the doors. There were actually no door latches as well. It's more finished now as it's only missing the triangle vent windows which we've finally found and should have them in hand and installed by the end of the year and the headliner isn't on yet(though it's sitting in the garage). Other than that It's finished. It's got a 460 cu inch v8 which wasn't an option in 66 (we've had to do some fab work to get it to fit correctly). We replaced all the emblems which were of the 6 cylinder hood lightning bolt which is now the intertwined v8 symbol for the new motor, and side twin I beam emblems with new ones. It had no tailgate or engine when I bought it (only paid 500 for it) or bed for that matter(it was wooden originally but i've used diamond plate instead of wood and rhino lined it). Has disc brakes now, power steering, and Independent coil on shock front suspension. I've also hooked up the air connections to have A/C but I don't have the underdash unit yet. Everything is as original as possible minus the new stereo and aftermarket Crager rims.

Just ordered some 1.5" spacers yesterday. I ordered them from rough country. They are 5x5" and will obviously fit the commander but they only advertise on the website that it fits a JK. Funny how people don't even bother to advertise jeep products sometimes that fit something other than a wrangler. I wrote to them about it since it fits at least 4 different recent jeep models.

superacerc
11-03-2010, 08:38 PM
Put the spacers on tonight. It looks much better now. I'll put up some pictures tomorrow in the daylight. Also put new front pads and new rear rotors. Now all brake components are new. The front pads werent worn all the way but i figured while i had the wheels off I would go ahead and freshen them up. The rear rotors were a tad warped and made a horrendous off and on squeal at 0-5mph when advancing slowly at stop signs and speed lights. Now I don't have to hear that any more.

After going to the offroad park a few weeks back I realized the need to have a CB as well as a Ham radio. This lead me to install a Uniden 510. Nothing special but it gets the job done and fits nicely in the drivers cubby hole. The antenna is a firestick 2 5/8wave with the tuneable loaded top (my wife went under a drive through and lost the little red cap that was on the top). After properly tuning it with the SWR meter last night for a perfect match it seems to be working well. I mounted it on the Roof Rack which could have acted as a grounding system had it not all been painted and was one piece but as it is I ran a #10 ground down to the chassis where I grounded the Lights.
I noticed in the SWR meter the power output seems to be close to 15 watts. Very odd for a radio that claims that it only puts out 4 watts on the box (it is brand new and no mods have been done on the radio). I got an excellent signal report from a friendly gentleman on the way to work that says it sounds great.

Well it's been a while since i've been on here due to the fact i'm in virginia and have been for about 3 weeks now for training (yorktown). I was planning on getting the ARB locker for christmas but changed that plan due to my Hankooks getting a Nail in the back drivers side tire and being pretty worn in general. I got some BFG KM2's put on today and .........

Had to trim the pinch weld and reshape the plastic. I was pretty proud of not having had to do this with the Hankooks but I guess they were worn enough that it wasn't a big deal. The KM2s had so much more tread on them that I could tell it was going to be a problem if I were to need to drive on any roads that weren't perfectly straight. All is well now and I don't have any rubbing. I'll get some pictures up sometime this weekend when I get the chance to post some. The tires cost more than the ARB locker would have so I had to give up that idea for the moment.

As for when I hope to have the ARB locker..... i do have a birthday coming up this spring!

Have been seriously looking at those tires, they look awesome and rate better than the A/T's but my concern was noise and wear. I drive 600 or so miles a month on pavement...let us know how they do on the pavement please

superacerc

Believe it or not they are quieter than my Hankooks which weren't very loud at all compared to most M/Ts. My dad has a pair of 35" KM2s on a 4" lifted F250. He's got about 10k miles on them and they don't look like they've lost any tread yet. I know some others have these tires and they may be able to comment farther on their performance. They are a more comfortable ride and quieter than the Hankooks.
I've actually heard louder A/Ts. In short I love em already.

Sorry I didn't get a picture of the tread pattern Knap. I'll get one on tomorrow night.

Had to try the tires out today in the nearly freezing rain behind my inlaw's place. There are a few muddy trails where the subdivision has been built and some ponds. On one place where my hankooks would always spin alot (slippery clay hill), these just moved along without breaking a sweat.
Here's a pic i snapped when the suspension extended while coming off a small drop off.

So my inner front passenger side fender well finally gave way on my last off road trip a few weeks ago. It crakced and came forward and the wheel grabs at it quite a bit. The pinch weld has already been bent back on mine but it was rubbing slightly where the plastic still humped over the ?coolant lines?/aircon lines (whatever those are). I trimmed most of the plastic off alltogether but I have a feeling that more needs to dissapear. I'm just going to paint the inner fenderwell flat black so It doesn't stick out. I have no rubbing at all on the drivers side but that little bit sticking out on the pass side gives me an issue. I just pulled off those plastic fake rock guards on the sides this evening. Haven't decided if that looks better or not but i'm probably going to clean it up and spray the pinch weld area flat black to look more chassis like. I believe i'm also going to cut my front fender as Sal has sometime this week as well. Less is definitely better.

I still rub just slightly on the bracket for the air con hoses it's still better than before by 300% and not as noticable. Tomorrow I'm going to cut the edge (about 1/4") off the bracket that sticks out on the air con. That may finish off my problem. I'll Put up a pic of the area as soon as I finish cutting and get some black paint on there. Its hardly noticable though as being not normal even though it is body color back there. I cut it straight with a utility razor knife. I think My problem is due to the 1.5" spacers instead of 1.25. The extra clearance from a quarter inch less would keep the tires from rubbing anything. Unfortunately That will be my last resort.

On my way to work this morning the Temp got hot on my XK. Pulled over and my wheel had grabbed the hose clamp on the heater hose running back there and pulled it and the hose off. Dumped all my antifreeze out. I put it back on(wasnt damaged) and put some water in it for now cause that's all I could get. Took a while to get the water back into everything and almost an hour to get it full again. Its a slow process when you haven't vacuumed the system. Anyway, I drove it back to the house and pulled out my very reliable 44 year old Falcon and drove to work. I'm going to make a cover for the hose out of sheet metal or something so it doesn't happen again and then have my radiator flushed and refilled with the proper Chrysler antifreeze.

07JeepXK
02-24-2011, 04:18 PM
Im surprised your tires come in contact with those lines back there. Especially since you have the OME lift. Are you running the HD coils or MD's? Something I plan on doing hopefully this summer is the rear heat/ac delete. Im going to get the lines from an XK that doesnt have rear ac and heat and swap them in under the hood and take off all the other lines that run down the passenger side wheel well to the rear on the XK. I dont use the rear ac or heat anyways. Plus when I cut out my pinch weld area for 34's in the future (if they ever make gears for us), those lines will need to out of the way anyways.

My fix for the problem:
I molded sheet metal around the air con hoses so the tire could no longer grab at them. Kinda like a mini fender.

I think it's possible that this caused it. If I were .25" smaller like everyone's spydertrax it should have just cleared it I think. Also the Hose clamps on the hoses were facing outwards so the prongs on them that you squeeze together were facing the tire. I turned them to the inside.
Also I know for a fact that these BFGs are a good 3/4" taller than my Hankooks. They's reel knoboly.

TXBAJA: Regular ole sheet metal from Lowes. $6.

I also would like to mention that the sheet metal worked perfect. I rubbed once or twice untill the metal shaped to how it rubbed when the suspension was compressed in some. Then i smoothed down a corner that was all that would catch while in reverse and I have 0 rub once again!! Finally i'm about done working out the kinks.

What is the wheel width? If its 9 inches wide it will sit out a lot more then your stock wheels with 1.5 inch spacers.

Yes! didn't think about that!! back to the drawing board. So if I get a 9 incher it needs to have 5.25" backspace to stay the same and if i get an 8 inch rim it would need to be 4.75" backspace. Is my thinking correct?

My wife has been driving the XK around town (we switch every couple weeks between cars). Yesterday she took the girls to the doctors office and when leaving had some guy stop her and ask about the XK saying it looks kind of like his cherokee and wondering what it was. He asked my wife if we take it offroad and said it looks great. She told him that it does get a decent bit of offroad time.

Last saturday a lady walked up to me and my wife as we were putting the kids in and ask for information on lifting hers cause she thought mine looked taller than hers (parked about 50 yds away) while in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot. I gave her some info and she seemed quite excited to know that she can lift it.

Yeah pretty much. But its hard to find wheels with those specs. Most of the 5 on 5 bolt pattern wheels are made for the newer JK Wranglers so its hard to find a nice looking wheel in the offset/back spacing required for our Xk's.

superacerc
05-01-2011, 08:00 AM
Yep, on and off the trails. Went through the sonic drive through (didn't stop in a stall) yesterday and a guy who was cooking who saw the jeep drive up had to come up to the window and compliment the jeep's appearance. Most people don't realize it's a commander. Guy's with Wrangler's half of the time haven't even given them a second look and don't know what it is. My buddy in the first Hidden Falls pics with the White Rubicon said he and the other guys were "suprised as hell" that I would even take it off road and after seeing how capable it was wants to buy his wife one and immediately lift it and swap out tires. He said he had seen the commmanders before but because it looked like a liberty he never even wanted to know anything about it cause it had to be a non capable mall crawler only. He constantly asks me to go back with them wheeling. They are going this weekend and got Thursday and friday off from the command to participate in a Wheelers For the Wounded weekend. I sadly can't go cause i've got to go camping with the Boy Scouts for a big campout in the Houston area this weekend.

The only real pictures i have are the ones i already put up here. I bought a large enough piece of sheet metal. I cut it down to a size that was bigger than the area i needed to work on. I started bending and shaping it as i needed to get it to go where i needed it. I had to make almost a right angle cause i extended it under the jeep a little ways so i had to make 2 triangle cuts to get that to fit. I used self tapping sheet metal screws to screw it down in at both ends. When i finished it up it still rubbed a bit so i used a hammer to finish the shaping process and to get it to lay as close as possible to the lines. Then i painted it black. It still will rub every now and then when my wheel compresses but it aint going anywhere.

Well i'm officially in texas once again. It's quite nice to be home. Tomorrow will be my first day back to work and i'll be happily driving the XK for a while.
My 1966 ford F100 is about ready to come to texas and join me. It's getting the finishing touches put on in Augusta GA during the next 2 weeks and will be trailered up here by my dad once finished. I had an alarm system installed and a Dewalt Tracking system (lojack basically) for just in case it decideds to go home with someone besides me. I have a feeling i'm going to have to keep it under a tight watch here in Houston. The falcon will be going back with him though and although i'll be sad to see it go I like the truck much better (especially since it has A/C, disc brakes, power steering, and independent suspension).

On a sad note I'm going to have to post pone the Big Bend trip i was planning for september cause i've been too busy and need to get things back on track here. I'll bump my thread about it.

Normally i'm only a vessel inspector. All my work occurs at the dock when a ship pulls in. Yes there is a Coast Guard Base here in Houston with about 240 people working here (there are also about 800 CG members around houston in other USCG facilities i.e. small boat stations, cutters, support depts, and the air station). So in short i'm always a 0700-1500 guy. I was sent overseas as an interpreter (not normally part of my job by any stretch of the imagination) for an impromptu type of deal. I'll be back permenantly unless something similar comes up (with the few exceptions of a school or something i have to attend occasionally for my inspections job).

I'll post some pics up when i get it. The shop said it would be done this week. That makes me think it'll really be done around next week and i'll probably have it in around a month(since it has to travel here on a flatbed from GA).

Just Ordered some Hella 500FF Driving lights. I'm going to reconfigure my lights this coming week. I'll put the two Hella's in the middle and have a seperate switch for them. The two i remove from the middle are going to the back of the jeep to use as backup lights and the two top outermost lights are going to be turned sideways and then down a bit to use as exterior lighting for offroading at night or just lighting things around the jeep up. (Depending on how that looks i might change it up some)

The Hella FFs are supposed to throw a nice long spotlight like beam so it'll be an extra pair of high beams for me.
Also going to order the Leveling Spacer this week.
Before the Trip i'm going to pick up a High Volume 2 cylinder air compressor that hooks to the battery in the jeep so I can air down and not take all day to fill up again. It's going to be a fun month!

Just ordered the Rusty's Offroad 1/2 inch leveling spacers.

I also just did an oil change yesterday evening and after that i crawled under the jeep with a big can of wd-40 and sprayed down most everything to help keep things from rusting. After going on the beach the other day it's got me spooked about things rusting from the salt spray so now everything is shiny and oily.

superacerc
10-02-2011, 07:00 PM
I'll measure tomorrow but yes i do. It isn't as high a lift as the spacer lifts. Somewhere between 1.5-2" so you get a bit of rubbing if you go with the 265/70s. (Of course i think it's partly due to the 1.5" wheel spacers and slightly due to the lift. I'm going to see what the spacers will do to remedy that which should help and then i'll probably go to the 1.25 wheel spacers if that doesn't fix the issue.

Matt
10-02-2011, 07:05 PM
Thanks for the heads up. Knowing that, and with the 5.7L and everything else i have weighing down my front, I'll probably keep my spacer installed when i put on the OME. I can always take it out, but it sounds like im not going to want to...

My jeep is sitting in my driveway at a slight incline so the numbers may be a little off. I'll confirm it later. My front measurement from the center cap of the wheel to the fender above is 20.5" and the rear is 21.25".

superacerc

Put on my Hella Lights today. I like them alot and want some more now.
I got the 500FF lights first to shine out nice and long.
Now i want the plain 500s to go on the outside of these and get rid of the old lights (except for one pair that i can use on the back).

superacerc
10-05-2011, 06:02 AM
If you look at the OME website it says on there that the Spring lift is only a 1.5"-2" maximum lift. They also sell a spacer kit much like the rough country which is almost 2.5". It could also be my fenders. They've taken a couple hits and i can wiggle them a bit. Once i put on the spacers it should be about 21". When i measured one side of the front it was showing 20.3ish and the other side was 20.5ish and it was on a slight incline shifting the weight over to the passenger side. Seems like nowhere I go is flat. I averaged the two out and figure it's about 20.4 so with the extra .50" from the spacers (rusty's says they're a half inch i'll see when they come in tomorrow) it should be right around 21". So you'd only be loosing a quarter inch but you'd gain a much harder suspension. Also when i purchased this jeep in 2009 the lift was already on it so it's been on probably since 2008 or even 2007 and may be beginning to sag more than it did new. I'd be curious to see what yours will be as a new kit.

superacerc
10-05-2011, 06:09 AM
Just was thinking too that if you have the 1/4" leveling spacer and it's truly a 1/4" spacer, and if the rusty's i ordered is .5" like it says you may want to switch to the rusty's spacer. I'll let you know it's true height once i get it tomorrow. It's only $29.00 though. Plus shipping of course which turns out to be about $50 for the total. That'll put you back at 21" minus that precious quarter. Or.............. You could leave the 2.25" spacer lift on there and add the OME lift! 4 Inches!!! And then have someone fab you some new mounts for your front differential and add the JBA UCA and you'd be set!

Matt

I'm pretty sure the rustys 1/2" spacers are 1/4" thick. they're advertised by the "lift height" not spacer thickness.

also, its not just .25" that I'm losing.... where I sit now is still 1/2" below where I original was before adding all the armor/accessories. so losing another 1/4" puts me a total of 3/4" below where I want to be.

..... I would never run the RC on top of the OME. Not a logical option IMO.

Here's the pic of the new clearance on the front wheels.
Couldn't find any before pics that do it justice. It feels like a different jeep now without the lower front.

Thanks guys. I've been working on it for 5 years now. Paid 500 dollars for it in 2006. Has Front disc brakes, power steering, Coil and shock front suspension, and airconditioning. Wanted to make it reliable and comfortable just in case i wanted to daily drive it (or have to when something else breaks). Still tried to keep everything mostly original. There are some other pics at the front of my garage section that show the when purchased pics as well as some engine pics.

How often do you drive this? I know you just got it back so probably should ask:
How often do you think you will drive it?

superacerc
10-12-2011, 03:46 PM
Once a week or so. If i ever have a car in the shop i'll drive it until it's fixed. (This is based on the amount that I drive my 68 falcon currently) In the last year i think i've put maybe 1000 miles on the falcon. It doesn't have air though so during the summer i'm less inclined to drive it. The truck however is much more safe and comfortable so i may drive it a little more.

Currently the truck (most all of it including the Engine, suspension, tires, wheels, tranny) are all brand new and have less than 80 miles on them.

I would leave it for sure bro that was like the icing on the cake :) It looked great without it but the tint changed the look made look tougher then it already looked kinda made it more sleek if you know what I mean. My old man just bought a 2011 f150 didn't come with tint on the rear glass or back windows either I'm trying to convince him to tint those up too now.

Yeah looks good with the tint. It arrived here in houston at 1845 and I took it on it's inaugural check ride around the block. So far so good. Going to do a few last minute things to it this weekend like put the rearview mirror on, get some ford floormats, chrome exhaust tips(i didn't want the exhaust tips to show but they do so they need to be chrome), gotta adjust the radio and amp (got 1000 watt kenwood amp, capacitor, and two shallow pioneer twelves behind the seat). Might do a seat cover cause I slide around on the vinyl too much. Gotta clean and wax it cause it's nasty from the ride up. Gotta put the license plate on it but waiting on a bracket in the mail. Theres probably a few other kinks to work out as well but they'll wait till theyre noticed as time goes by.

Well I've had fun this week getting the 66 ready. I've fixed a door lock (which wasn't put on quite right and didn't lock), fixed a speaker that the wires have come off of, changed the acceleration pump in the carb several times to get the right one(had a horrible stutter off idle). Also changed the tranny's modulator valve and set the shift points how i like them. Put the rear view mirror on, a seat cover license plate bracket, adjusted the stereo, adjusted the headlights added a vent hose to my fueltank and a few other things.

Also ordered and put on a K and N air filter. When i went to Auto Zone to order it they couldn't figure out what air filter it was cause I couldn't give them a stock vehicle that it came on. I told them that i know the dimensions and that they were listed on their website by dimension. They said it wasn't possible to do it that way so i had to step out of line use my smartphone to figure out the part number and go back up and order it. It's sad that auto parts stores can't figure that stuff out anymore.

I had the ball joints replaced, an alignment done, and the power steering fluid flushed at a local shop yesterday. While it was there they put a huge scratch down the whole side of the truck(it's a real deep scratch). Someone backed it down a 55 gallon barrel full of scrap metal and didn't notice it untill they had knocked it down with the front of the truck. They are paying for the paint job but it's kind of frustrating how things go wrong and the extra time that will have to go into repainting that side of the truck and the potential mismatch of paint colors.

On the bright side, I think i'm getting 10-11 mpg maybe even 12. I can't tell yet cause i've been doing a lot of short test runs and tinkering with the carb.

Sadly I've parted ways with my JETTA GLI. happily I've taken home a turbocharged loaded subaru forrester! Happy! More to come on this subject.....

12-07-2011, 07:52 AM
So I loved my GLI but it had some quality issues from where it was built. It wasn't a german assembled model like my last Jetta it was built south of the border. Due to this, I believe it was having some interior quality issues and my A/C compressor was on it's last leg (which is a known issue that plagued this model). It was an awesome car to drive and super fun though.

I went to a local dealer that had a good deal on a Subaru forrester that I believed had a few features but wasn't a fully loaded one. It was a 2011 with 5400 miles on it. I drove it and it was alright but it was actually a super plain base model. It was dissapointing coming from a loaded turbo german sedan. I saw another one on the lot and asked about it. It was a 2009 XT limited model. (the T designates the Turbo!!) It had 20k miles on it and a clean service history. It's fully loaded except navigation. Has leather, power seats, leather steering wheel, heated seats, heated windshield wipers even so they don't stick to the Window when things ice over.
It's basically the WRX with a forrester body actually so it's quite peppy.

I decided to make a final repair to the somewhat still present clunking noise from changing out the shocks. Most people experience the clunking when swapping to the bilstein 5150s and here is my permenant cure to the issue. First I decided that the hole was much too large where the bolt first went through so I decided to use my welder to weld on a more precise hole with t 1/2" large stainless fender washer. Here's what it looked like after welding it in place.

It's a little messy (i don't claim to make pretty welds) but it's on there pretty well.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/01/EA0D274Dorig-1.jpg

That solved the too large of a hole issue and gave the bolt more support. I removed the nylon bushings that I had previously smashed into place before. Next, the bolt itself was a bit smaller than the bushing on the bilsteins so i figured i'd tighten it up a bit by taking some electrical tape and making one wrap around the non threaded portion. This tightened everything up and I have no movement at all in my shock mounts now. Glad that's done.

Now i've got to replace that bushing that's on the front differential that makes the popping noise when putting it in gear/taking pressure on and off the drive train rapidly (such as selecting first and pulsing the gas rapidly making the vehicle surge and slow down). Anyone remember the part number or proper description of that bushing?

I'm trying to fix a few little issues before going back to the east coast in february for training.

The upper differential bushing part # is 52089516AB. The list price is $35.10, and with military discount it runs about $29.83. That bushing is used for both the top of the differential and also the passenger side of the differential where the extension housing is. The bracket/bushing in front of the differential cover part is part #52114354AA and list price is $137.00 and runs $116.45 with discount. Very expensive because it comes with the bracket. Of course I need one of each. Im going to see if I can find that one cheaper elsewhere. Im not about to pay $116 for it. Hope this helps!

EDIT: Found the upper differential bushing/isolator a lot cheaper right through Quadratec.

Success!!! Superchips finally got the update right for the XK! The tune worked and I can tell right off that the throttle response has become much more lively and it feels like it doesn't struggle as much to get up to speed. It's been forever since i got that thing and have been wrestling with Superchips to get it to work. Well technically it's been almost 3 months but waiting for a mod to work makes it seem like an eternity.

In the meantime the Subaru has had some stuff done to it. More precisely a new 3" downpipe and high flow cat, a new midpipe, a larger front swaybar and sound proofing with RAAMAT (kinda like dynamat). At the moment I'm also having a specialty tune done to the ECU where I log data and send it to a tuner and they change my tune and send it back. I'm right now about 300 HP to the Crank and about 230-250 to the wheels (all wheel drive really sucks out the horsepower). My 1/4 mile time is hovering in the 14.0-14.3 range and 0-60 about 5.5secs. Just took my 3rd row seatbelt buckles off. I had one that was broke and need to replace it before wheeling this weekend. Both back buckles are tied together so I have to replace them both. It's 88 dollars from jeep.
To remove the buckles I simply had to take off the 3 main bolts holding the seat down Plus the one going through the buckle and into the body of the jeep. Then you have to pry a rivet like grommet off with a screwdriver or crowbar and punch it back through the hole. Not too hard. I also got to clean out all the kid food that was under the seats plus the stuff that the last owner left in there before 2009.....Gross.

What psi were you running the turbo at?

Almost done getting the custom tune on the subaru's ECU. Right now I'm showing at the wheels 257hp and 279tq. That's not bad. That puts me right between 310 and 325 at the crank. Its doing about 16.5-17 psi throughout the mid range where the turbo does its best.

Edit: Looked up the avg percent loss for my era subaru and edited the previous 300hp to what is above. Not bad at all for a car that was 224hp(crank) stock.

between 22 to 25PSI on a modded T4 it was a blast. I reinforced the bottom end of the motor to take the higher PSI power band is incredible.

That sounds like a fun setup. We just bumped my waste gate duty up some to allow my psi up a little more. Stock my car was 11psi. With a ready made "Off the Shelf Tune"(one size fits all) from the largest company selling reflash tools i was running about 14psi. I'm still in the process of fine tuning the ECU with a custom made tune from a turbo shop we were running 16psi and today just bumped it up to 17.5psi. Also just pulled back the timing on the high rev area. Haven't tested it yet but it should yield a bit more umph. This turbo would never get close to 20 something though(nor would I want it to). I really would like to swap turbos for a mitsubishi style (well I would really love a garret ball bearing but aint got money for that) TD05 18g or 20g to give some more volume at higher RPM cause this stock turbo falls flat on it's face past 3800 rpm and my torque suffers pretty bad because of it.

pjmjr508
05-01-2012, 07:41 PM
be careful if you go to big on the turbo you will have an issue with not enough exhaust gases to get it to turn fast enough to be of beneficial. I reinforced the block and lower & top end to handle the higher PSI- along with a standalone ecm for the whole setup. it was a blast. the main reason I sold it was I moved to a area that it snows and getting pulled over all the time in it, XK to the rescue lol

except a 90+ ticket from last week in the XK lol

I don't know anything much about the tuning. I'm paying a professional tuner from a turbo shop to do the tune. This turbo will be at its max when this guy is done. I just confirmed with a test run and data logged from the ecu that I'm getting 17.6 psi which is about as good as this turbo is known for. I also logged some 1/4 mile and 0-60 runs and today's revision of the tune has gotten me down another .25 seconds in both. I'm hitting 100 mph at the 1/4 now. Yesterday it was 93 mph same weather conditions. So I'm still making headway with the tune from that little psi boost plus holding the timing in a bit longer but I don't think I'll see more than a .1 sec increase from where I'm at now.

Hey jon, Here's some links to where all the pictures i have are. I really don't have loads of them. Just bits here and there.
I kinda wish I had the Cobra Jet heads on mine but then other parts get hard to find which are head specific. The engine isn't super peppy but has plenty enough power for such a small truck.

Does that motor have o2 sensors for every cylinder?

superacerc
05-02-2012, 04:29 PM
Nope. The pic you are looking at is when we dyno'd the motor. On the dyno we were trying to make sure that no cylinder was running lean (hot) so those are temperature sensors on the headers you see. Those aren't the headers that are on the motor right now, just a test set for the dyno.

So yeah, I've been pretty silent lately. I've been catching the info on the forum every now and then but I've got a one track mind and It's been modding the Subaru Forester lately. So for those of you who knew about it here's an update on the Forester.

I did a turbo swap for a TD05-18G mitsubishi style last week. Also put in new injectors and electronic boost controler. I'm in the process of re tuning everything now and seeing what kind of hp i'm going to get out of it. The avg Wheel horsepower people are getting with this turbo on a subaru is in the mid 300 range with about 400hp max at the crank. So I'm shooting for at least 320 at the wheels. More if I can get it. That should theoretically bring my 0-60 into the 4.5second range and my quarter in the mid 12 second range at about 115mph. If I get bored and tune for E85 later on this year and I might dip into the high 11 second quarter mile range we'll see about that. Either way, this thing is a beast! Sure puts a look of surprise on a lot of faces.

I'll keep you guys posted.

The 66 Ford has also had some upgrades. It's getting a new TCI Super streetfighter transmission put in as we speak. Should make for some nasty quick shifts and a lot better application of power. It also got a new intake and is going to be dyno tuned after the tranny goes in. Should also be in the mid to high 300 hp range and around 500+ ft-lbs of torque.

Friggin sweet! Toss up some pictures when you get a chance, esp. of the Ford.

Let me know how you like that TCI Super Streetfighter trans. I've been looking at them to put behind my SBC 355.

@ Cricket: I'll let you know how I like it when it goes in. The shop said it would be here tomorrow at the latest and probably be installed by the end of the week. We'll see if that happens. I could have went for the regular streetfighter cause I don't have that much hp but reading about the Super Streetfighter negating the governor in the transmission and being able to shift immediately sounded more like what I wanted. And fore 250 dollars more, why not?

@ PJMJR: It looks exactly the same as it did before. I haven't changed the look of anything in particular. The engine bay will look pretty standard except the intercooler is larger but still in the factory position on top of the motor. Injectors are black instead of blue, i guess that's a difference. There's no fancy piping in there or anything cause it's not custom fit. Here are some pics of the differences in turbos etc...

Compressor side. Definitely a difference in size.

My Subaru is coming along still. I'm up to 20.5psi on my 93 OCT tune and running in the mid 4 second 0-60 range and around 13 flat so far in the quarter mile. I've got a little bit of timing to finish up on the tune and it should push me into the 12 second range on the quarter. I think I'll try running some E85 and tuning for that around 24psi when I finish this tune in the next week. Should put me in the low 12's, perhaps even a smidge into the 11's if I can lighten the car some and get the light weight rims on before running it on the track. This thing is sooo much fun! I've blacked it all out almost and will be bronzing the rims. Here's a photo of what the finished product will look like with the bronze rims(it
's mine as it sits but with photoshopped color added to the rims)

Yep, its a little beast. Ive got the sti engine, but have a bigger turbo, injectors, intercooler, and fuel pump than an sti. I'm already faster than a stock sti in the quarter mile by about a half second. Hopefully on e85 that will grow to 1.5-2 seconds. Nobody even looks at me twice on the highway, and cops dont pay me any attention. I love it!

11-15-2012, 03:12 PM
Thanks PJ. It actually has silver rims right now but I really like the bronze look. I'm in the market for some lightweight wheels. It has been said to knock off up to .3 seconds on the 1/4 by lightening the wheels(since it's rolling mass the engine has to turn). I guess it's kinda like the opposite of putting on heavy mud tires. I'll have 11 lbs off each wheel for a 44 lbs rolling mass savings. I'd like to run it with each wheel combo to see what the difference is but i'm sure it'll make a huge difference. It's already getting stupid quick. I've made quite a few Civic Si owners unhappy. They will race anything with wheels it seems. Seems shameful to try and take on a soccer mom Crossover Utility vehicle cause you're a cocky Civic owner. It's even more shameful when they find out how out of their league they are against it. lol Lets see Civic Si takes 6 seconds to 60 and I'm at 4.5-4.9. They do 15-16 second quarters and I'm at 13.-13.4 right now. It's not even close on the street.

Here's a quick video of the Subaru accelerating.
Since it's an auto I have to hold my brakes while building rpm to get a decent launch. you'll notice I do that here. I've got a set of equal length headers coming next week and I'm having the Catylitic converter taken out tomorrow for faster spool times and better mid range torque. The header will give me an extra 30 ft/lbs of torque across the rpm range. Then I can finish the tune and after that go E85. She should be downright dangerous after that!

Keep an eye on when the speedometer starts to move and when it gets to 60. (I stop the video at 80 so pay attention to the 60 time) It's between 14 and 18 seconds in the video.

Vids are coming in a second. I also just finished my e85 tune. Id like to take it to a real dyno and see what it rates but im figuring around 345-350 wheel hp or about 375-390 crank hp. Its quick and even though its all wheel drive its having trouble keeping grip on dry pavement. Super fun to drive.

New wheels!!! I used my OEM centercaps in place of the ones that conig sent cause they were like chrome cones sticking out the center. Looked terrible. I can already notice a driving difference. They sit out a little further giving me better handling and they steer noticably lighter and let the engine rev quicker. They also seem to want to keep rolling longer after coming off the throttle.

THE WEIGHT OF THE OLD WHEELS WAS 23.xx pounds!!!!! So my weight savings is 9.xx pounds each saving me 37ish pounds.

The guy at the wheel place putting them on:

Ok, here are a few videos. I hope I get a chance to do some better ones tomorrow. I've gotten side tracked all week wanting to do some extra shots. A hint at what it may be? You've seen the foz on a MX course but there's something missing in the photos.....

Here's the video that showcases how crappy the exhaust sounds with the OEM mufflers left on with equal length headers and no cat or resonator. This has inspired me to get a meaner sounding exhaust. I'll have the new exhaust on Wed so expect a video of a roaring mean foz. I will keep the OEM mufflers though for road trips. Noise starts getting to me after a while.

My subaru 0-60 and quarter mile times.

I'm finishing up my logging with a new intake now and decided to check my times via my programmer. I know it's not perfectly accurate due to slight speedometer inaccuracies but its close and i've been doing them at random throughout the whole process to get a reference point of what kind of improvements i've made so far. the last time I checked it I was on regular gas and didn't have an exhaust, header, intake, or use E85 and I managed4.4seconds to 60 and 13.2 in the quarter.

Tonight here's my result: 4.0seconds to 60 and 12.5 in the quarter.

I had tons of wheelspin and a crappy launch so I think if i let some air out of my front tires I can bring this beast down to a 3.8 or 3.9 to 60.
