My Jeep Commander is lifted with the Rocky Road 2.25" lift & supersliders. GetLost4x4 front bumper with front skid plate & Warn winch, Stone Soup Metal Works rear bumper & tire carrier, Mopar & 4xGuard skid plates, Gibson exhaust, Air Flow snorkle, Yakima Megawarrior roof rack w/extension, KC lights and much more

I am 07JeepXK. I own a 2007 Jeep Commander Sport 4.7 liter 4x4. I purchased it in August 2007 while I was stationed at Fort Meade, MD with only 8 miles on the Odometer. Over the past few years I have done many mods to the XK but this is only the beginning.

CUPRA
06-15-2010, 08:33 PM
Evening! I'm CUPRA - stands for CUP RAcing. I am originally from Scotland, and the last car I had in the UK before moving here to the USA was a Seat Ibiza Cupra 20VT (20 Valve Turbo).

Seat are part of the VW/Audi group in Europe. The Cupra line are made from cars on the production line, that are taken off to the Cupra factory and 'tweaked' for more performance. It's the Factory Performance Division, like you have SVT for Ford and SRT for Dodge here in the USA. Mine was one of 1200 built.

My screenname on forums was CUPRA, so it stuck when I moved over here.

I have a 2006 Jeep Commander Limited, 5.7 HEMI that I purchased in Sept 08 with 18k miles on it. I'm now at 46k relatively happy miles! :)

Hey there fellow jeepers!

i don't have a commander just a lowly old wrangler that looks more and more like a raisin every time i take it out... there's an old saying among the rock crawlers... "remember when that used to be a nice jeep?"

well, here's a picture of how nice mine was when i brought it home November 2008...

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2010/06/Jeep-2.jpg

I'm Doc and i have a jeeping problem... err, umm, a rock crawling problem... or just a problem keeping the shiney side up and the greasy side down?

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2010/06/1243025767080-1.jpg

so, yeah, that's what i spend what little free time i have on... she's a beater but i still drive it to work everyday.

so i don't get out wheelin' much anymore because i'm pretty busy at work... I own Stone Soup Metal Works here in arizona. i've been welding over 20 years and have done a little bit of everything related to melting metal and gluing it together. lately it's been almost all off-road related builds...

click on the link in my signature and you can check out what we've been doing.

I just realized that I have not posted in this thread. My screen name is for Huey Pilot Viet Nam. Long ago a far away, but it was mostly fun for a kid just starting out.

My Commander is set up for exploring. I am the guy that drives around the mud puddles, but enjoys the feeling of knowing that I can make it there and back on most any adventure ride. Most of my modifications are for adding capacity and capabilities to my Jeep. Extra gas, lots of recovery and survival equipment and supplies, warm covers and a soft bed if I ever get stuck or have to spend the night on the trail.

WanderingTs here. Currently there are 3 of us, myself, da wife, and our red-headed, blue eyed, almost two year old, Jackson. (He is the one everyone remembers, we are just the ugly chauffeurs.)

I used to wheel in my 1995 Chevy S-10 which I special ordered new in 1995. No room for carseats, so along came the Commander. We bought a 2007 4.7 with 10k miles on it from a used car chain (CarMax). Since then it has seen upgrades (mods) listed below.

Our last name starts with a "T", so......

I'm new here from Houston. Have an 07 Commander Limited, it's green and has most options....but so far as mods it has Kumho Road Venture M/T's in 265/70 17 size with a Rock Krawler lift, Diablo Predator tuner, and a missing rear bumper. Will soon have a Stone Soup bumper...being built. I also have a cam for it, but am not putting it in until I get all other parts I want as a good tune is expensive.

Hey Guys,06blkhemi here. I purchased mine in May of this year. I just came out of a 01 XJ Lifted, bla, bla, bla !! I know the XK won't be the wheeler my XJ is,but it has more room, and power which I need to pull my Pop up and haul my family around in. My wife and I are taking about going bigger with a Travel Trailer so we wanted something that can pull a good size one.. I'll be building the XK little bit at a time as the money comes around, but since I'm also into Flying Radio Controlled Planes, that takes up a bit of the money in my pocket !!

Just found out about this forum! Can never have too much information on the Commanders. I don't post much, not a big "moder" as I use my Commander as a tow boat for my travel trailer:

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2010/10/Sig2IMG_0043-1.jpg

Have done some light off-roading on our trips, but, I'm towing heavy and most of the mods cut into the haul capability. Do love my Commander though, and always enjoy reading about the mods you all have made. I still lament the day they decided to drop the Commander line.

I tow a 2008 FunFinder X-210WBS. It is a 21' box, but, if you add the tongue and a waste pipe mod I did, the whole thing comes out at 25.5 feet. I have a bicycle rack for the back that adds another 3.5 feet, so the whole rig as I tow it is right at ~29 feet. Since we tend to go for several months (ahh, reitrement) we tow on the heavy side, I'm right at ~5900 lbs with a tongue weight of ~715 lbs. Use an Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch to get the Jeep to squat equally at all four corners and a Prodigy P3 to get the whole shebang to stop.

Great towing, rock solid (can't say enough about the lack of frame flex in the Commander) and the Hemi is more than up to the task of hauling 3 tons all around the country! I've got about 28,000 on this setup now and love the combination. I average 10.7 mpg going cross country and back, no complaints at all. Best I've gotten is 12 mpg through the flats of Kansas, the worst, 8.5 mpg on Rt. 550 from Durango up to Silverton...

Unfortunately, as I mentioned, a lot of the mods that you guys do to your Commanders would adversely affect the tow capability of the vehicle...lift kits need an even longer drop on the stinger, the drop is already severe due to the stock height and you can't tow 3 tons with the tongue up, should always be level or slightly down. A deeper drop on the stinger to compensate for a lift would lessen the amount of tongue weight that the reciever could handle (leverage), etc. The addition of heavy steel plating (skids) or a new front end with winch, would also knock back the amount of weight (gross vehicle weight) the Commander could be loaded with; I'm creeping up on the max as it is. Now when I get a Ram 2500 Cumins Turbo, then, I'll think about some mods to the Commander... Right now, all my mod creativity efforts are going into the TT...and I can't do too much more (28 changes to the stock trailer at last count) as I'm creeping up on the max axle weight for the axles that are on it...

I had a basket on the roof w/ 4 smaller kc's but had to remove it since it's too tall for my garage. I plan on putting the lights back up top soon. Also an aftermarket exhaust but not sure what kind, it was there when i purchased it. I love XK's, I used to own a '00 XJ but traded it in because it got too small for the family. I'm here to learn more about my XK and hopefully build my jeep up!

My name is Lee, I bought a 2007 Commander for our family car. My son loves the skylights, and my fiance likes how big it feels. Last weekend I put a daystar spacer lift on it, a set of 255 75 17 BFG mud tires and 1.25 in Spidertrax wheel spacers. Future mods include tv for the kid, and sliders so I don't trash the body when wheeling. Love the jeep, and from the little offroading it has been on, I have to admit it feels just as comfortable as my old YJ. Hope to meet some people here in Missouri that wheel their Jeep too.

Hi there!

I live in NE Texas. Mostly I learn from you guys. Though I am not an expert, I enjoy mild off-roading every now and then at www.barnwellmountainra.com

I bought in 08 a 20kmi used 2006 Commander QT-1, my first Jeep. It had to be it due to budget, but I am still wondering if I could have someone help me to add low range to it through a modification. After all, 3.7L, 6 cyl. is the same engine Liberty has, and they have low range same as the Cherokee sport and older Cherokee models do.

My first mods are: Rear grab handles, a 2in liftkit (daystar), 1.5in Spidertrax wheel spacers and a set of 265/70R17 HOWLER M/T (E) from www.treadwright.com; it's been 2 years with them and they are really tough and NO problems with the tread. The only problem is on pavement, when speeding between 55 and 65 the truck wiggles but once it hits 70mi/hr the shaking ceases, but the noise of the tires is permanent. Next fall when they are gone I will try the Guard Dog tires.

This weekend I did the bumper trimming thanks to Sal's posting, I will also add the front tow hooks. Once I finish all will post the pics in the right place.

I also bought the OEM front skid plate and transfer case, but unfortunately there was a bolt w/o head and couldn't remove it today, and in order to install the the transfer case plate, I need to install the fuel tank plate first ($216+labor+tax) so I will wait on that.

In the future, rear hitch kit.

Here is a pic from 2009 right after installing the tires, spacers and lift.

Thanks for this idea! I recently purchased my front suspension and transfer case OEM plates. The front one had to be postponed since there is a headless bolt I need to get out (BTW, when I was trimming the bumper, I tried it and lost the extracting bit :S ) Then I was about to instal the transfer case plate, but it needs the gas tank plate in order to "hang it" from the tab with 2 holes... I didn't buy the plate for that because of budget an installation labor...

Smells new in here, Love the new forum smell. Fresh paint, excellent crown molding, carpets not even dirty yet, and nice wood finish - very nice!

Anyway - I own and wheel a modestly modified WK - the inside is done, for now, with Pionner touch screen nav, blue tooth and Ipod sync, aftermarket sunroof, leather, heated seats, power everything, and replaced the carpet rugs with mopar rubber. I started working on the exterior last year. It's a 3.7L WK with 3" OME lift, and 255/75/17's GoodYear Wrangler Silent Armors, pinchweld, and fender mods have been done, Load Warrior cargo basket with spare thrown up top, some aftermarket headlights which i'm pulling out and putting back in the stocks when I get some free time. At one point I had 3 sets of lights on the Jeep, a westin chrome bull guard with a set of lights the entire I think I removed to increase approach angle. set of KC Hilites on top bolted to the cargobasket which I still have, and reverse lights which get banked up all the time (they currently act as my sliders lol, and I will be relocating these up top on the cargo basket as well). Back when I installed the reverse lights, I was pulling my friends Jet Ski's around a lot, and I lived out in the farm where it was pitch dark - So i needed them.) Now they are just in the way and I hit'm once in a while. My WK mods have slowed down a lot because I've been putting more emphasis on my XJ. But the future of my WK will probably see CAI, and some skids, and probably upgrade to some of those sexy bighorn tires that Sal's been wielding.

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2011/11/AFE2-1.jpg Did the aFe install this past weekend, in fact!

Been 20 years since I went crawlin' in my old '79 Ford Bronco. Been stuck in cars ever since, and ALMOST bought another Grand Marquis... until I saw THIS at the dealership. One test drive, and I was hooked. Just wish I'd known about the Hemi-Commander at my local dealership down the road. I'd of bought it, instead.

But here we are, and I'm learning as much as I can about Jeeps, these new full-time 4WD units, new axles, transfer cases, axles, and the like. 4x4's have come a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g way since my old Bronco Ranger XLT!!! Here's hoping I can keep up!

Hi everyone. Just found this place at the recommendation of Matt. I was on the "Other" forum for awhile, then took some time off. Now I'm back and gettin' the itch for mods. In the past I had a 98' TJ that I bought in 99' anf modded that up quite a bit. Keep it for almost 9 yrs then replaced it with a 02' Limited WJ. Kept that one stock, then picked up a 10' XK Sport in Dec 10'. Now that I've driven it stock for a year I'd like to start makin' it bigger & better. Looking forward to learning and hopefully contributing.

I dont really have a set budget yet...I dont want to skimp on quality, but I dont want to break the bank either. I'm looking for a 2-2.5" lift, maybe some ATs,and new rims to start.
I have a 2010 Forty-Eight Sportser. I put some 42' baffle-less Chrome drag pipes with black wrap,Dyno-Jet Powercommand, 16' Burley Apes,LePera Bare-Bones solo seat,and a new 4.5g tank newly painted with 1948 medallions on it.

Kyle here, I live in Mesa, AZ and I have owned my Commander for about a year now. I have the Daystar 2" lift. I am looking to upgrade my rubber now (hopefully 265/70/17). I just purchased the GetLost bumper from Knappster, can't wait to install. Future mods will include a steel rear bumper, Superlift 4" (if I make enough money to justify), CAI, and probably a performance chip.

In the near future, I plan on adding a RC 2" lift, 245/75/17 Hankook DynaPro's, a TJ front light bar with 3 - 8" Kragen HID lights and some skids. I am also switching over to all Amsoil fluids.

All you really need to swap in the gas tank skid is some jack stands and a jack. Its really easy to do. I did mine a few years ago and actually just had the gas tank back out of it less than two weeks ago to modify the skid. The rear drive shaft was hitting it when the rear end articulated while off road.

Yeah I have to get a new gas tank skid. I'm losing a couple of gallons due to the big dent I put in a couple weeks ago, and your right its not to bad at all. My fiance got me the t case mounting bracket for a gift so I didn't worry about it.

Hi,

I recently sold my Wrangler that I've been modding and wheeling for about 8 years. My wife and I just had our first child and we're looking at changing the lifestyle a little bit. We plan on doing a lot of forest road exploring and camping, and maybe looking into some expedition trips.

Here's my 04 Wrangler that I sold (I cry every night :( )

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/06/SANY17371-1.jpg

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/06/078-1.jpg

And here's the new rig:

2006 Limited, Hemi, QDII, 2-inch lift (Rough Country I believe), Sahara wheels and tires, and Gibson cat-back.

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/06/Commander1-1.jpg

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/06/Commander2-1.jpg

https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2012/06/Commander3-1.jpg

The first mod will be trimming that exhaust tip because it's killing my already not-so-good departure angle.
Next will be a hidden winch up front, and as soon as I figure out which one I want I will get underway with that.

Looking forward to starting fresh with a new vehicle and getting to talk Jeeps with you all. I have some noob questions to augment my limited research of this vehicle so I'll see you in the tech forums.

Glad to be here!
-Will

Hello everyone. My name is Eric. I've been a Jeep owner for about 3 years. Two as a WK and most recently XK (April). Even when I had the WK I'd dreamed of owning an XK so when I wrecked the WK it opened the window for the XK. I lucked out and got the 4x4 Limited. The 4x4 was for me and the limited was for the fam.

There's a club here in Augusta (Jeep Masters of Augusta) who are mostly Wrangler owners that turned me on to superacerc and he led me here. I thought I was out in the mist since I'm the only lifted XK in Augusta. When Ryan told me about this place and I started browsing, I got a renewed enthusiasm for my Jeep. I've seen a LOT of mods here and can't wait to copy some of the awesome ideas I've seen in the last 2 days.

I have some front end issues that I have to work out first so I'm going to apologize now for the bazillion questions I'm going to ask to get it straight.
