There need to be a way to get notifications when someone comments on your post or on a post that you responded on.

You can subscribe to any thread and you will be notified when others post in it.

You can also update your subscription setting to get instant, daily or weekly notifications.

I set my forum settings to automatically suscribe me to anything I reply to or start. Then If i don't wan't to hear about it anymore I just unsubscribe.

Click on the drop down menu Thread tools at the top of the page in any thread you're in. Then click subscribe to thread, then choose how you want to subscribe. That subscribes you to that thread. I usually do the instant notification by email.
