Hey guys just updating my thread with my latest Jeep! I've been keeping up with all the activity on here I still read just about every thread and still interact with XK/WK people on my jeep page and you tube. Anyway I wanted to get back to jeeping again so after a couple of months of looking and almost a 3hr drive I finally found one. 1989 YJ with the inline 6 3seep auto not thrilled about that one. It has 4" lift on 33x12.5x15. It's a pretty clean Jeep of its age and nobody gives me weird looks when I take the doors off LOL

The wife even jumped in and helped with cleaning it up!
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2014/03/P63743205-1.jpg

As you can see for a 25 year Jeep its still pretty clean and it passed inspection too.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2014/03/P12947905-1.jpg

Anyway thats about I do have build plan of course LOL but I'm starting will all the OEM parts first. Going to make it a really nice dependable DD then move onto the rock crawling mods.

Put a bit of work into the YJ over the past couple weeks. First thing I tackled were the brakes with new master cylinder, brake booster, brake switch, front calipers and pads. I still need to put new pads on the rear and I have a new power steering pump sitting on the floor waiting for an ambitious day. I also removed and fixed the carb and put it back on correctly LOL. Then on to making it look a little better.

Sanded and repainted both bumpers and replaced all the hardware with new grade 5 stuff.

Front bumper.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2014/05/P65904813-1.jpg

Pulled the battery tray out and cut it up to fit this monster under the hood.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2014/05/P65885205-1.jpg

Pulled the hood hinges and painted them with new hardware and did the center of the hood.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2014/05/P65886810-1.jpg

Then did the windshield hinges and door hinges.
https://theultimatejeep.com/images/imported/2014/05/P15049202-1.jpg

Then after much testing I realized why nothing would stick to my fender flares, because its rubber LOL a couple of cans of plasti dip solved that problem.

I think that's it for now, I might have forgotten something. I'll be order new mounts soon for the motor, tranny and transfer case.

Gotta get some nicer shoes on her Sal!

Their on the list but I have no out of town plans with it yet. I have a couple of issues to button up before I can wheel it. I'm still hoping to make it URE this season at some point if everything goes well. I entered a welding program at my local college. I figured if I'm going to rebuild a 25 year old jeep I better learn how to weld properly. The cool thing is we can make anything we want on their equipment as long as we buy the material. They have everything in that place! We can even bend pipe for roll cages and stuff. I already have one semester done. I never knew how much I got wrong when welding (trying to weld) before.

Updating my garage. I visited the interior shop on Friday. I took home the swatches and decided to go Brown (mahogany).

Thanks guys! It really came out better than I thought it was going to. I was real happy when I opened the door and saw it for the first time. The lighter double stitching really helps it come together. The katzkin seems like a quality product and the guys did a good job installing it. Well worth the cost I think.

Not really the wife and I are having some discussions on that. It's so clean and the new interior is so freaking awesome, were talking about giving it to her to drive. She only would want a 2" lift and tires. So we're thinking about finding another XK for me to modify. Nothing is settled as of yet. I've been checking Craig's list out and some decent ones are out there.

The good part is getting rid of here VW would pretty much eliminate my debt besides my house. Which would give me way more funds to modify a Jeep. So I have no idea which direction to go In. LOL

Would you be interested in my wheels/tires (set of 5)? I might be picking up a different set from a local jeep club member, just need to test fit them. The red inserts on my wheels can be swapped out for the chrome ones (i have them too) in case it clashes with your color.

I also have Corey's 2010 Hemi XK struts/springs with RC lift spacers collecting dust in my yard. I'm sure he wouldn't mind them going to a legend such as yourself (i'll double check when he comes over this weekend for some work at tha shop). Then you'd just need to get a spacer or springs for the rear and you'll be set for a bit :)

With the holidays sneaking in and my YJ needing an new set of tires among other things I might not be ready for tires on the XK, since the ones I have are new. I saw a guy selling spacers on facebook for $100. I just need to see what my YJ will need to be finished because I need to drive that right now. Getting rid of the VW puts the wife in the XK for now. I also have either the yellow wire issue or need a new starter on the XK. I might just put a new starter in if I have to do all the work to get in there. Also waiting for this noise I hear to get worse so I can figure out whats failing. The rebuilt rear axle took 80% of the noise away but I still feel and hear a slight drive line whine. With all that I'm being pretty tight with my money right now. I can't wait for all this to play out so I can move forward.

I did the plugs yesterday finally. I'm almost done I maintenance items. I've treated it like its never been serviced ever so it been a lot of work. I guessing these were the origanal plugs that came with the Jeep. I was pretty happy with their condition. None of them had oil or real bad carbon build up and all of them were wore out pretty even at .050 gap.

I still have the throttle body and stuff to clean and change the PCV. It looks like it might be pretty gunked up in their I'm almost afraid to look. Might just order a new one LOL

The TB is easy to clean, get an old tooth brush, cut top of bottle of water and fill with rubbing alcohol. Soak the tooth brush in the alcohol and start scrubbing it. Its the safest and best way to clean it!

It's kinda stiff I didn't feel like messing with it. Was thinking of doing the catch can and that at the same time. The PCV valve didn't want to turn by hand either. It was to late in the day to be forcing stuff in case I broke something.

Id be shocked if yours needed to be replaced anyway. Neither my XK or Ram ones were in need of replacement and with the catch can installed it kind of helps not having to worry about it as much

ITs super easy and yes you're definitely overthinking it!!! Hahaha All it does is literally cuts the hose that goes from the PCV to you intake manifold in the front. So instead of a straight hose, the hose goes to the catch can then another hose goes from the catch can to the intake manifold, so all the oil vapors that would normally return to the intake manifold go thru the catch can and collect so it doesnt gunk up your intake. Its super super easy!! This is a great shot

There's a diy version as well, if you're not inclined to spend $200 on a shiny one.

http://youtu.be/SWhsMsRmYzs

That's the method I plan to employ, only I intend to fashion a mount for mine with a scrap metal plate and a d-ring on my strut bar. The advantage to using the Home Depot air compressor filter is that you can see the level.

Don't know much about this, but is a catch can a universal thing and can you just go ask for one at an auto store?

Yes and no. They're universal in that every (modern) car is capable of using one. However, they aren't universal because different cars have different-sized PCV lines. The most complex thing would be mounting them. That's why, if you look for a Billet Technology oil catch can, they might not have a specific application for your vehicle. That's what I ran into when I first started looking at buying one. Basically, I figured if I was going to have to fabricate my own bracket, I might as well save $200 and build the whole thing myself.
Granted, the OCC in the above video isn't quite as high tech as the Billet Tech version, but it will still catch more oil than a straight hose.
The problem with the above video is that I don't think the 1/4" barb fittings will work for our slightly larger PCV hoses. I've built my OCC with the exception of a scouring pad (which acts as a baffle). Once I find a pad, I'll see about installing the sucker. Pics when I do.

UPR has them for less than $100 and is great quality, that's what I used on my Ram... I personally like that extra "bling" it gives under the hood, not to fancy or cheesey, functional and you have the choice of colors, you can even go red Sal! Look into UPR on amazon great deal and great customer service! They updated the drain and reached out to me after my purchase to send me their new design.

I know this was forever ago, but when you took your flares off to cut them, did you get them off without breaking the clips somehow, or did you just buy new clips?

I got mine of without breaking them. It's not hard if you take your time. I did break some but considering how many times I took my bumpers and flares off its not many at all. I just grabbed some at Lowes when I did break one.

Yeah I used a pick to pop the clips out, and actually got most of them. I'm going to make some inner fenders of sheet metal I think, And then do the same flare mod you did.

I went through a mud hole yesterday, and I didn't secure the passenger inner fender well back when I did the pinch weld, and the wheel tore out the inner fender and flare , so gives me a excuse to do the mod
