First, I had to make some new cross rails that were lower profile (so i can park in the garage at work). I used curtain alluminum rails that we use at work. Cut them to length and test fitted them..............

Then I sprayed them with undercoating/bed liner stuff and installed them in their resting area..........

I gained 1.25"s of lower profile....with the sport bars (including the mounts) it was a total of 4"s high.......with my home-mades it came out to be 2 3/4"s high.

Then it was time for the basket.......Originally i planned on widening and lengthening it because i wanted a little bigger basket but, I ended up just putting it together and seeing how it looked.........I'm glad I did, it fills the roof of the XK pretty well and I did'nt think I needed to mod it any.....Sometime in the future I will fab up a custom basket from scratch but, for now i'll rock the Rage......I picked this basket because of Sal's review and torture tests......Anywho, on to the pics.....

That looks great! It's amazing to look at your first garage pics and then these. Big changes have happened.
Looks good.
What size bolts are holding those cross rails to the mounts though? They look a bit small...

Same ones that hold the OEM Sport rails. I figure they hold those, they can hold these.
Thanks for the compliment.

I agree the bolts that hold the roof racks on look long and thin. They are a 10mm thread.
Which is what, close to 1/4"?
Good work ! looks sharp. What is the "curtain rail" you mentioned?
Another fine looking mod!

It's close to 1/4 but not quite......The curtain rail is just that, you install it on the ceiling and hang a curtain from it. the curtain is able to slide open and closed for privacy. Have you ever been in a hospital room where they have a curtain you can pull to separate the patients? Well, that's exactly what it is.

I really like the new rails gaining all that extra clearance thats sweet. The lower you keep it I think the better your MPG will be as well.

I dont know yet if it'll kill my mpg by a lot or a little, havn't driven it much today. But, I will tell you that its quiet as far as wind noise. Took it out on the highway up to 80mph and didn't really notice any extra wind noise.

The driving lights will be like sea anchors on the road. I think the roof rack will have little effect, by it self on gas mileage. It's all the stuff you put in it that will
make a dfference. The wind deflector should help.

I lost like 1 MPG just with my two little lights square lights I put up front.

Do you have close up pics of how you mounted said lights? Also of the rear facing ones as well.

I know I do of the rear ones. The fronts not sure but that pic wouldn't help anyway because I have them rigged to my basket mounts which were using different mounts.

This aint a great picture I'll have to get a better one. But I basicly used the bolt holding the basket together and put a kinda L shaped bracket on there from lowes.

Do the lights bounce around a lot with those "L" brackets?

No but since there rear lights I'm usually going pretty slow in revers :) sorry couldn't resist. The best light mount is using the stock cross rails and drilling holes in them for lights the sport ones not the thicker ones.
