I forgot to mention we had two QT1 WK's with us today. I was worried about it at first but they did better then I thought. I'm not saying they had it easy but at least they could go where we wanted. Now they had to take some different lines as well, and we had to stop a couple of times so there transmissions could cool off. The long steep rock hills pushed them real hard. But all an all I was impressed with how they handled it. IamJeep do you have the factory tow package?

This is the first video I have up. Its of one of the QT1 WK's coming down some rocks.

I can see a definite difference in QT1 too, but it didn't hold him back, just slowed him down a little.

When you get at an angle like that, with the wheel off the ground, open and close a door to show the rigidity of the unibody.

Sal-You have a very interesting exhoust at the beginning of your video. Sounds good!
Keep your arm in the window....

Looks awesome!!

I'm not sure where the habit of sticking my arm out the window came from but I seem to do it all the time weird. Oh I think I'll take my doors of one day for a trip up there.

Sal, I do not have the factory tow package. I added the hitch and harness myself, but I guess i'm missing tbe bigger fan and whatever else comes with the package. Can't see the vids on my phone for some reason, i'll bust out the laptop later to check them out.

I was just curious bro because they didn't have it either and I'm sure the extra cooling stuff you get would of helped them out a little. No worries bro we only stopped twice to let them cool down and you need to stop every now and again on the trail to take a break anyway.

The exhaust to me sounds like a 4 stroke motorcross bike/fourwheeler. Sounds very similar to my CRF250R honda. I'm sure there was a bike/fourwheeler on the trail somewhere.

It was the step long climbs that gave them trouble but nothing taking a little break cant fix

steeper than up at Flagpole ? The V6 does have a trans cooler, dont know if its the same as the V8 has. My biggest worries has been not having any skid plates.

The short answer is yes and the loose rocky ground adds to its difficulty. Chapman89 didn't have skids either and I have been running those trails with out skids for a while. I don't recommend it obviously but being careful and taking the easier lines you should be ok, but if you have the funds it might be worth it. At least the suspension skid for $45 is pretty reasonable.

Yes we will be on those exact trails and more. We only ran three trails out there and it took us all day to do it. So there is plenty out there to keep us busy. I've never put anything but 87 in my XK.

Sal, what is the rating for those trails ?

Not sure Uwharrie has its own rating system and I'm not sure what they use to measure that. We stayed out of the extreme parts because I wasn't comfortable bringing the QT1 guys threw it even down hill. The trail you seen me hitting and scraping was considered Extreme but we were on the back side of that trail its the other side that gives it its rating if that makes sense. Sometimes I see no difference between there moderate and difficult trails. Uwharrie is that place you can make what you want out of it. You can get threw most of it in 2wd or you destroy a trail rig.

Sal, I was thinking you need to take those damn running boards off, worst thing ever invented for a 4WD in my opinion , but now I see they are actually protecting the rockers spretty well.

LOL ya man I want to chuck those things so bad man. But as you saw they are doing a good job protecting my jeep for now. I just can't take them off until I get some sliders or my rocker panels will probably be all caved in by now.

Ya when I was watching the first one I kept saying man thats to long. So I trimmed the clips down to the action and speed some clips up so they didn't last to long.

Bro, you're getting good at this editing vids stuff. Nice work...

Some friendly critizism........Those vids would be 10 times better with a steady camera. I'm no pro myself, just saying.

Sal-XK
05-11-2011, 05:40 PM
No I completely agree bro it's the size of the camera it's real small. I figured out though that if I leave it on the tripod even while walking around with it the shots are much more steady. At least were getting the bugs worked out before the main event. :) the lens is not very wide angle either

IamJEEP
05-11-2011, 05:53 PM
Thats why I want to get the GoPro.....then you can mount it on the Commander and on a tree or something. They are made for action shots and the vids come out steady and clear.

With a little more practice, you could probably do the same with yours. Don't get me wrong, your vids are better than most. Just thinking out loud to try and help you out, since you're putting a lot of effort to improve your OG videos.

Sal-XK
05-11-2011, 06:03 PM
I like the Go pro my buddy has one. It has it's uses but hand held for exterior shots isn't one of them it would be more shaky then mine is. I have a tripod for mine I'll just have to keep the camera on it. The go pro would be an add on for me because of all it's mounting position. If my friend don't come I'll borrow it from him :)

IamJEEP
05-11-2011, 06:11 PM
I've never seen it used as a hand held. Is your cam the kind you can change lenses? So, you think a wide angle lense would be better? A Fish Eye lense would probably look pretty cool also.

Sal-XK
05-11-2011, 07:46 PM
Ya, go pro not good as a hand held so you need another one for those out side shots. Can't make good Videos with nothing more the POV shots I've tried they get boring. I can't remember if mine takes lenses or not I've had it a while now. Not sure about the fish eye lens it could have its use a one or may two shots with it but not much else. My lens just needs to have a wider field of view I feel I have to get to far from the jeep to get the whole thing in the shot. Ideally what would be awesome is a go pro mounted for some suspension travel shots a hand held for the exterior and a digital camera taking pictures of the action. That would give the editor tons of stuff to work with. Because believe it or not those clips I used were trimmed down to dump the shaky shots but I had to keep some of it lol

The webcam offers a great POV shot of course. Probably the easiest or the cheapest way to get a POV shot from inside the cab. That external shot getting the entire jeep climbing the ledge is needed to make a good video.

The gopro is more of a mounted camera as well isn't it? I have seen them mounted on roof tops. If you want to get into
the action, the hand held is the way to go.

Sal-XK

When talking jeep videos the gopro is more of a specialty shot. Getting unique camera shots to be edited in with the hand held camera shots.

IamJEEP
05-12-2011, 07:42 PM
So, to get the best shots for video clips, you would need a hand held, a vehicle mount, and a POV cam?

You know what would be a sweet shot.....................undercaraige POV! Just don't put it on Sal's Jeep, LOL!!!!!

05-22-2011, 01:54 PM
Sal, what is your plan for skid plate repair? Will you be able to reshape it? Are you going to have to replace it? With my old rig, damage like that turned my skids into giant springs. Next to impossible to remove due to the tension on the bolts, then completely impossible to put back on because the holes would no longer line up after the tension was removed. Have your tried taking it off yet?

Sal-XK
05-22-2011, 04:22 PM
No I haven't tried to remove them yet. The stock ones are so cheap I would just replace them if I had to. The belly guard and fuel tank skid I don't see any reason those would ever need to come off.
