I am going to have StoneSoupMetalWorks make me some front end tube fenders, anyone else interested in a pair?

Correct, they will replace the factory fenders and bolt on from the back side using the current fender attachment points.

Absolutely, I am thinking of getting new wheels that stick out 1.5" more than my current ones so I would work to cover those.

The guy that has the JBA test Jeep already has a set made. See if he will get some specs on the ones he is running, it looks mean from the front, but i would like to see a profile as well.

The few XK's I've seen running around with there flares off I think looked better then the stock look with them on but thats me.

Sure, but what I understand, not only will the flare be off but the entire fender will be off and you will see something similar to this. I hope this is not the case.

I am going to start here and then bolt custom made flares on using the OEM mounting holes and added support.
They will not be armored defense, but the stock fenders don't provide much protecting anyway.

So you are making tube FLARES , not tube FENDERS . Removing the fender would be a bad idea, I think.

tubed flares was my understanding I knew what he meant in the title with the pic he posted. But ya running without the fender would look goofy. Why can't the flares be mounted for armor protection as well? If land on them your saying they won't hold?

The "Flares" will bolt to the fenders so if the fenders bends under the impact then the flairs have no other support behind them.

I sent him a pm asking for some side views of the fenders and have not gotten a response. I wonder how he integrated them into the body and if it looks all chopped up or not.

I bet they look good. If you look at the picture again you can see there is a support that goes into the wheel well. Or at least thats what it looks like to me. My assumption is he has several of these supports holding the tube fenders on. But then again maybe Im totally wrong. Oh and he's definately not running fenders or flares in that picture. And if you look close enough, he doesnt have the oem turn signals either. I want them!

Went by today and took a couple of photos with my HTC Thunderbolt!
The first one is the plate that will bolt to the fender using the OEM mounting holes:

The second one is of Doc holding the outer pipe (this is all the further he got because he was waiting for my approval of the size):

Doc will cap this off with sheet metal and bolt it on using bolts that match the OEM fender bolts.

first of all, these will not weaken the fenders, but make them much stronger. the tube has a much greater structural integrity than the sheet metal and plastic. these are currently in the second beta and are a bit of a "hi-line" with a little arch in the center. the stock size is just shy of 3" and i'm going to make this set about two inches wider. the material is at the waterjet shop being cut as we speak and i'll be heading out about 5am to make the trip across town, beat traffic & make it to the shop and get crackin'. i hate bed liner and don't know what everyone's obsession is with coating everything but a truck bed with it. it is heavy, collects dirt and mud, is very difficult to clean and impossible to touch up, not to mention once you chip or scratch it it will continue to peel away.

If done properly, it lasts. I have a friend that has it in his bed(f150) and has beat the crap out of it. It has not chipped or peeled, but the bed floor and sides are dented to hell.
I agree on the roll-on crap, just say no.

Jon just left my shop after about a 12 thrash session. He was pulling wires while I was pulling out my hair. I git here about 530 am Thursday morning and am taking a break now at 3am friday. I'm headed back out there to build the other tube fender. I blew the pneumatic cylinder in my tube Bender today and it set me back pretty bad, and I changes the design of the fender about 4 times before I liked it. You'll see pix as soon as the fenders are painted

Spent about 24 hours at Doc's over the past two days but the fenders are done and installed but Doc put them on in my driveway in the dark, I promise they will look better in the daylight.

In there defense its time consuming enough to make sure your getting pictures and video of the event. When your planning leading and trying to document the event it's down right exhausting to do and when you get back to camp you just want to sit down a relax firing up the laptop is the last thing on your mind.

I wish I had followed my passion... I like what I build but the off-road market is saturated with hacks in their garage driving prices down along with boat loads of off-shore garbage that sparkle. Most people cannot tell the difference between cost and quality until it's too late. And its impossible to compete against mass marketing. I like the challenge of design, actually I have no designs, even when I built the rear commander bumpers to go into production, I just started measuring and building. I've been building off road cars since 1998 and know my way around a tube Bender but enjoy doing a little bit of everything.
And those pictures I posted were honestly the best I got, it was like 9pm and I was at the end of a 40 Marathon from Thursday at 5am until friday at 9pm when I was bolting those on his rig... you guys are lucky that in my state of exhaustion I got any pix at all
And sal.... if you want some get some, bad enough take some, HUAH!
I really do want to post the pictures but the internet here sucks! We just got back into camp and I am going to see if Huey's internet works better.

And. As much as I hate be a salesman, is this something anyone else would be interested in? Just curious if they're marketable... I don't have all the numbers together yet but thinking price point would be ~$4-500 range, they would be raw steel and would include all stainless steel mounting hardware. This project was the breaking point with the waterjet company I used and just hoping the new shop will have similar pricing.
