Just got back from 6 days in Moab with my wife, daughter and the in-laws. Except for a bit of wind Sunday, the weather was perfect. I met up with Hoaxi from California on his way to Grand Junction who wheeled with us Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. It was quite the fun time for my second visit to the area. Not much trail damage except for a rim on one of my brand new AEV wheels I'm really impressed that folks do some of those runs w/o lockers!

Great pictures, I especially like the one overlooking the valley. Years ago I did Lion's Back. I think it is closed down now. Thanks for sharing the views. Try to make it to the Camp Commander in July. Lee and I are trying to still make it but she has to have a total hip replacement and I am not sure how far along in the recovery process she will be in July.

Yes, Lion's Back is closed now and it's a shame. It looks really exciting!
I'll be at Camp Commander. I hope Lee has recovered enough for you to make it. It would be great to meet you.

trialbyfire,
did you have your sway bar discos unhooked? are they the rear ones? photos look like your front links were still in.
Do you have break line extensions?

That sequence is the Golden Crack on Golden Spike. There are lots of videos on YouTube.
I did punch in my rear bumper, but not on this Moab trip. I did it out in the Rio Puerco west of Albuquerque.
Golden Crack wasn't that bad. The front bumper barely touched and I did scrape my tailpipe but no damage to the bumper.

I had the rear sway bar disconnected and the front attached. The XK was amazing with the Superlift and the 285s! The only thing I had to attempt multiple times was the optional obstacle below Zuki Hill on Golden Spike. Everything else, we danced up.

It really wasn't that bad. Some of the drops off the ledges on Golden Spike were much scarier!

I should have some videos to post later this evening.

Sorry, man, but it's worth the wait! Maybe by the time you order SL/AEV will have worked out the problems with the rear arms and the tire rubbing. I noticed KMAX's Back To Moab (http://www.xk-forum.com/showthread.php/444-Back-to-Moab)thread below where he mentions the rear arm brackets getting all banged up. I had the same experience. They hang down way too far and every time it flexes, the 285s rub the door flare enough to pop the rivets. Bent arms attached to the OEM pivot point (like El Cid has) would certainly be an improvement that shouldn't cost a lot.

The other thing I ran into was that during heavy rear flex, the driveshaft (balancing weight?) catches on the fuel tank skid plate and bends it down. It has been slowly tearing away at the plastic driveshaft bellows. It looks like the skid plate will need some trimming.

Good points man. Thats actually one reason ive been trying to generate interest in other manufacturers to make a kit for the XK/WKs... without any competition I don't foresee SL improving their kit at all. It does however have me considering Rustys version to get the adjustable rear arms.

Great video... those pictures are awesome..... these vehicles are freaking sick. Just a 4" lift and 33s.... most vehicles need a crap load of mods to even attempt that, and you made it look easy!

Yes, the XK with QDII is really awesome. Watch some of the other YouTube videos of other vehicles crossing Golden Crack and most of them get real tippy. It's probably a wheelbase (or maybe an IFS) issue but I felt solid all the way across.

In spite of scraping the tailpipe, there was no appreciable damage. In fact, it could probably be done with a 2" lift and 31s, however there are several other obstacles on Golden Spike where the skids would get a major workout.

Amazing pictures! It's amazing how the rear bumpers/tail pipes always catch objects on our XK's. Even on less aggressive rocks/ledges Sal and I caught our rear bumpers a few times at Uwharrie.

Thank you for showing that video! I really wanted to see how you got across. It have my heart rate up watching it. Also, I was rolling cause of your daughter! She is pretty funny. It really gets me cause usually the wife, kids or passengers are the ones worried about damage and the driver just knows its all part of it, but your wife and daughter were the ones screaming "way to go". I love the "let me see a power pose."

GREAT VIDEO!! Love the way she screams. I laughed all the way through it... it's very entertaining!

And, yes, the XK is as stiff as a Tonka Toy. There's just no frame flexing as with a body-on-frame vehicle.

It also makes me wish I could be in Moab RIGHT NOW!!! (We're going to the Oregon coast this weekend for a few days, but I'd rather be in red rock country anytime)

She put the whole trip onto one long video (too big for YouTube) but I see if we can post it on Vimeo. If not, PM me your address and I'll send you a CD.
