I will be taking the Commander for the weekend. Seeing if anyone else in the Midwest would like to join. It looks like a great event, and I am taking the whole family for it + dogs again. We are staying at a Hotel or B&B, but there are 9 campsites with Electrical hookups still open.

Well judging by lack of response I will be the only Commander on the trails. I will take lots of pics this time, all the trails are guided and there will be plenty of Wrangler guys to impress. Happy 4th to everyone

These are all the pics that we got. The other guys took them of me, but you can get an idea of the trails. Damage sustained, Couple good dents to the front 4x Guard, muffler dents, Bumper corner crushed, pinch weld on rocker panel flattened in a couple spots, and rear control arm tab bent. Ran great all weekend, then made the 3 1/2 hour trip back fine going 80 mph. Nobody believed me when I told them I was coming with a Commander. The guys at Midwest Jeep Thing were super nice, and got some awesome shots for their September Jeep Stock. Used me as the "if this one can do it, so can everyone else" haha most fun wheeling I have ever had.

Must be my work Server, oh well. I wish someone would have gotten a pic of the front wheel stand though. Still waiting on the day two pics so I will put them up as they come in.
I wish another Commander would have come, we got soo many weird looks from all the Jeeps. Just had to laugh as we sat in the AC and didnt have dust filling up the inside.

I get those same looks all the time while on the trails, its a blast to be comforable and do the same as them. The best time is when it is COLD & Raining outside and doing the trails with the heated seats and heaters going and still doing the same as the rubis LOL

There were certainly paces that I could not follow, I need Rock rails and the rear sliders really bad. Also, a gas tank skid would be nice. My one huge disadvantage was the clearance and lack of armor. This is the family hauler/fill in for a mini-van so it has to come back looking and running right.

pjmjr508
07-05-2011, 01:39 PM
I do understand that. I thought your had the factory skids which comes with a gas tank skid, but in your statement that you would of liked to have had that skid; unless I read that wrong. I do want the rear sliders for mine as well but I do love my belly plate with the rock sliders that saved my underside a few times now.

Holaday07 4.7
07-05-2011, 02:04 PM
Well I have the 4x guard front skit, and front Differential skid. When I bought the XK the gas tank was leaking, fuel lines were broken, and fuel pump was bad. All of this was replaced on their dime, and until I checked I assumed the gas tank had it since the front dif did. Turns out they must of cut that corner and just replaced the tank, but not the skid too. Frustrating, but I have owned it for long enough, the guy wont even bother to call me back. I crushed the rear corner of the bumper and those sliders would have saved it. I spaned the whole creek side to side while the wranglers just drove through.

pjmjr508
07-05-2011, 03:56 PM
OK that makes sense. Now you have a reason to get new bumpers made for it with the corners crushed.

Why was your hood popped?

Holaday07 4.7
07-06-2011, 01:14 PM
It was 95 degrees and I had to leave it running all day. My 20 month old son was in the back, between never turning it off, high heat, lots of high RPM loose rock climbs, and the AC cranked, temp started to climb a bit. I used to pop my hook when mudding my old truck to help keep it cool, so I fugured it couldn't hurt. Jeep ran for about 8 hours a day in idle or Low Range and it was hot. Is it bad to do this?

CmmdrDan
07-06-2011, 01:24 PM
Thats what I figured. When I go out if we stop Ill usually throw the hood up to let some heat out. It shouldnt hurt anything. Keep it down when water fording though

Holaday07 4.7
07-06-2011, 02:30 PM
Yeah I know that one, I hear water in the intake is a bad thing, lol. Jeep just got damn hot after several hour, but it was ot hot for the kid not to be running the ac.

It is cool that we have the additional electric fan when the temp gets too hot though.

I don't think any of the people who wheel there XK live near you. There really aren't that many of us that wheel these things bro and even less that will go down trails like the ones you just did. We do have a East, Midwest and West coast camp commander probably your best shot at wheeling with other XK's unfortunately.

Holaday07 4.7
07-08-2011, 03:48 AM
Kind of figured that, But I'll post a trail run/ meet & greet and hope for the best. Park shuts down except for the Jeep Stock, and it's cost affective with food ncluded. Everyone was blown away that we showed up in a Commander, and even more impressed we never had to get pulled out of anythng.

Hopefully I make it out to wheel with you guys some time, or in Moab if everyone goes to that.
