View Full Version : Custom Cargo Mat that works with 3rd Row Seats

So to start... I made this cargo mat out of the bed mat from my pickup truck. The $80+ price tags for the rear cargo liners were just ridiculous!!

Today we took a spin with some friends to get some ice cream... and I needed to use the 3rd row (2 couples and 2 babies). Then I realized, i wanted a better way to using a 3rd row seat than just rolling the mat over like this:

So... I put a cut in it

I plan on "sealing" up the cut with a glued/sealed velcro strip to keep dirt & debri from falling in the crack.

FYI:
You can purchase a pickup truck bed mat for UNDER $50. My bed mat was enough to make a cargo liner for my XK and my wifes KK!!! So that's two cargo mats for less than the price of one. Oh yea, custom fit btw

MAtt, I like this idea. I was looking at some mats before, truck bed mats, and wondering if they could be cut to fit.
The one I looked at was about 1/2" thick, maybe 3/8's. The guy at the counter told me I would never be able to cut it.

I think it could be cut, with a sabre saw.

You can cut those bed mats with a carpenters knife.... slices through like butter.

Guys behind counters aren't always the best source of info lol

Yeah the price of cargo mats was my main motivation for trying something else.... plus they make it hard to use the 3rd row. I had the truck bed mat already taking up space in the garage so it was no risk to try. :)

Not sure how I missed this thread the first time around. It's a great option for me because it will keep my dogs from tearing up my carpet and getting the long hair imbedded in it. I think the mat from my dad's truck will go missing.

Veddy, veddy, nice. With 4 small kids, the rear seats DO get used. Gotta try this 'fix' on 'em!

Glad you guys like it. :)

Came in very handy at OBX last year. My friends daughter liked sitting in the 3rd row with her dog laying down next to her.
