Never mind my kids are back to school by then so I'll be solo I guess. I'm coming as long as nothing pops up thats unforeseen I got the ok from the boss :)
My kids are still too young.
I'm currently planning on getting a room at the comfort inn but my friend is pushing for camping....
Do they allow fires? Nothing better than sitting around a camp fire drinking beer...
As I said before Im up for whatever, worst case a sleeping bag in the back of the XK is all good with me, not like its to small!!! No family here for me either so Ill most likely be solo or bring pops along for the ride..
Some slightly bad news for me. I have a Monday morning flight for work travel the day after wheeling. (Though I'm keeping my fingers crossed it gets delayed)
Worst case, I'm still wheeling but will have to stay with the guys on the easier trails.
I'm in 99%, just me no wife and kids, so I'll plan to camp (ie sleep in the Jeep it makes me feel like a man :)) Unless no one else is going to join me around the fire.. in which case I'll share a room..
I have a feeling that me and my two friends are going to end up camping. It'll be nice to wake up and already be there! lol
I'll plan on camping then!
Updated the first post.... I'm getting really excited about this trip. Hell if my trip gets delayed I may have to drive out there Friday night if you long-er distance guys are coming for the whole weekend
Guys, by the end of next week i'll need a final list of everyone who wants to camp. Was just reading the rules and it looks like a "group leader" has to give advanced notice.
Rules/info here: http://rauschcreekoffroadpark.org/sis/overnight.php
I could go either way, show up friday or saturday. Just depends on what everyone else is doing. I would prefer to camp, but again I'll go with what the group is planning.
It will just be me sleeping in the Jeep.
Im going as of now, if everyone is camping Ill camp, if not Ill get a room.. As far as what day Im coming down, not really sure probably Saturday and wheel thru Sunday.. This is getting exciting with the turn out!!
Cool, I've never camped there so wasn't sure what to expect. Do you want to take lead in letting them know we're camping since you've dealt with Lynn in the past?
And yeah.... please let me know if there are errors in the first post; I often try doing 10+ things at the same time and will mess up names or something.
Yeah i sure can. I'll give her a call about a week prior, once we have better numbers and everyone gets a little better idea if they are camping or getting a hotel
as long as there is at least one person camping I'll be camping to keep costs down at least. Some of us paratroopers like comfy beds :p
I'm a solid in for camping.
Next part do I show up Fri or Sat? I don't want to be solo Fri so same thing if anyone else is planning to be there Fri night I will be also, otherwise I'll come up Sat.
Same for me I have to wait and see if I can I want to come up Friday because its a long drive. I should know more by the end of this week or the beginning of next week. I might just bounce Friday evening if I have to but that means getting in around 0100 Saturday.
I'll be camping for sure. Not paying the extra money for a hotel. And I plan on being there Friday night.
The camping area isnt all that big and its first come first serve. You will see where the XK is parked so will have no issued finding me. I'll save room for others to setup there tent. I have Verizon and never had a problem getting service. Even on the trails I get full signal.
Not a problem. I edited my last post too
The hardest part for getting there at night will be seeing the entrance to the park.... but if you pass it, you really can't go that far away without knowing that you missed it.
One you turn in to the driveway, you can't miss the camping area.
You guys better not over-wheel on Saturday; save the good stuff for when we're all there :p
Is anyone bringing their dogs?!? Im thinking about bringing mine since I always leave him home when Im on trips.. Still thinking Im coming down Saturday, after to work extra hrs to complete my next purchase(s) for the XK!!
I will be only 20 minutes away from RC because I will be up my uncles mountain house in Mt. Carmel, PA. I plan to drive over Sunday morning so ill need to know whats a good time to get there since its my first time.
I will have my dog up the mountains with me. I don't mind bringing him but how would they be in the back of the XK while on trails? :P
We like to be on the trails no later than 9. Normally we've hit most of the park by 4 pm depending how quick our group is moving.
Since we'll have a large group, it will really help if everyone has a CB so we can keep check on everyone while we're moving along. If you have to stop or need help, no one will know unless you're able to communicate.
A handheld CB is a cheaper / easy solution.
Matt, any advice on handheld cb's? Ive seen some decent Cobra ones for $100..
I'm running the Midland 75-822 for the best of both worlds. Put on the battery cartridge to use as handheld, or hook up the car adapter for use with a full scale antenna. Well under $100.
If you plan to keep wheeling you will want one eventually. I have one installed in my Jeep and I have a handheld, so I can loan you the handheld for the day if you want to wait on buying one.
I appreciate that and depending on how much I like wheeling that weekend will depend on my list growing larger for mods lol
I don't mind buying a CB w/ maybe a magnatized antenna for now? it would just depend on the cost
I suppose I will look at the CB thread to get an idea of how to work these things as well
Cell phone really doesn't help.... by the time you call someone to tell them what's going on And then they relay to everyone else....
No to mention you can't hear all the other discussion... like the leader saying "hey be careful off this drop" or "there's a big rock in the middle of this puddle I just hit"
Cobra HHROADTRIP 40-Channel CB Radio - $75 from amazon is the handheld that I bought for my wife's van when we drove cross country. Comes with everything you need. Magnetic antenna or short hand held antenna, can run on batteries or 12 volt in the vehicle (without batteries in it even)
Works better than my cheap midland cb with cheap 2' antenna and custom built antenna mount. (I think the mount/antenna are the problem...)
