I tow a 2008 FunFinder X-210WBS. It is a 21' box, but, if you add the tongue and a waste pipe mod I did, the whole thing comes out at 25.5 feet. I have a bicycle rack for the back that adds another 3.5 feet, so the whole rig as I tow it is right at ~29 feet. Since we tend to go for several months (ahh, reitrement) we tow on the heavy side, I'm right at ~5900 lbs with a tongue weight of ~715 lbs. Use an Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch to get the Jeep to squat equally at all four corners and a Prodigy P3 to get the whole shebang to stop.
Great towing, rock solid (can't say enough about the lack of frame flex in the Commander) and the Hemi is more than up to the task of hauling 3 tons all around the country! I've got about 28,000 on this setup now and love the combination. I average 10.7 mpg going cross country and back, no complaints at all. Best I've gotten is 12 mpg through the flats of Kansas, the worst, 8.5 mpg on Rt. 550 from Durango up to Silverton...
Unfortunately, as I mentioned, a lot of the mods that you guys do to your Commanders would adversely affect the tow capability of the vehicle...lift kits need an even longer drop on the stinger, the drop is already severe due to the stock height and you can't tow 3 tons with the tongue up, should always be level or slightly down. A deeper drop on the stinger to compensate for a lift would lessen the amount of tongue weight that the reciever could handle (leverage), etc. The addition of heavy steel plating (skids) or a new front end with winch, would also knock back the amount of weight (gross vehicle weight) the Commander could be loaded with; I'm creeping up on the max as it is. Now when I get a Ram 2500 Cumins Turbo, then, I'll think about some mods to the Commander... Right now, all my mod creativity efforts are going into the TT...and I can't do too much more (28 changes to the stock trailer at last count) as I'm creeping up on the max axle weight for the axles that are on it...
Air Ride, lift at the touch of a button. But a fine rig you have. And welcome to all the new people.

Hey there! Have had my Commander for just under a year now and am still getting used to it in the snow and ice. Swapped an 07 Wrangler Unlimited for it to get more room (and the Hemi).
Welcome to the show!
Hi..guys Philip Here...I have a Jeep Commander Sport 4dr 4x2. The Sport trim features a 210-hp 3.7-liter V6, while the Limited is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 Hemi (optional on Sport). A five-speed automatic transmission is standard on all Commanders, with two-wheel drive or one of a range of four-wheel drive systems.

Hi Guys,
I'm Jayson and I am an off-road addict :) Just bought my (our) 2008 XK Limited and am researching some mods to get started. Previous rides, 03 Libby, 91 XJ, 88 Trooper, 90 Bronco XLT, 68 Baja Bug.
Welcome Jayson, post up pics of the Commander and the old rides, especially the bug!
Welcome to the club Jayson!
Thanks, Guys. I'll have to dig out the old shoebox of pics and put them on the scanner for ya, IamJEEP. Pics will come soon, heading out on vacation in the morning :D Will be back next week.
Welcome, Jayson. Man, Arizona has a lot of members, probably more than any other state.
I'm drad08, I'm a proud owner of an '06 XK. It's mostly stock, hopefully a lift 'n tires in the future. The only mod's for now are my brush guard w/ 2 KC hilites. I had a basket on the roof w/ 4 smaller kc's but had to remove it since it's too tall for my garage. I plan on putting the lights back up top soon. Also an aftermarket exhaust but not sure what kind, it was there when i purchased it. I love XK's, I used to own a '00 XJ but traded it in because it got too small for the family. I'm here to learn more about my XK and hopefully build my jeep up!
Welcome to the forum. Have a look around if you can't find something using the search just ask we will be glad to help you out.
My name is Lee, I bought a 2007 Commander for our family car. My son loves the skylights, and my fiance likes how big it feels. Last weekend I put a daystar spacer lift on it, a set of 255 75 17 BFG mud tires and 1.25 in Spidertrax wheel spacers. Future mods include tv for the kid, and sliders so I don't trash the body when wheeling. Love the jeep, and from the little offroading it has been on, I have to admit it feels just as comfortable as my old YJ. Hope to meet some people here in Missouri that wheel their Jeep too.
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a nice XK open a garage and post some pictures.
