Got the Milwaukee impact wrench on Tuesday and tried it out on one of my old Cherokees. It zipped off a lug nut in about 2-3 seconds. I think I could change a tire with this without breaking a sweat except for maybe retrieving the spare from under the Jeep. I took off 3 lugnuts and managed to scratch each one pretty bad. I won't complain about that if I need to change a tire in some remote area. Small price to pay but annoying just the same.
I called the tire guy who rotates my tires and he said scratching the nuts (no pun intended) is not a concern as it never happens. He uses a Snap-on battery impact wrench. I wouldn't think brand name means anything. I've had my tires rotated 3 times and there is not a hint of a scratch on my nuts. (again no pun intended although it is funny as hell).
What do you mean by scratched? That should have nothing to do with the impact gun itself... what socket were you using on it?
I think you used the wrong size socket. My lugs had those annoying chrome caps on them I still have some stuck on I can't get off so I need two sizes to get my lugs off :(
I used 19mm on the first one and 3/4 on the other two. Now that you mention it I think my Cherokees have those chrome caps. Perhaps that's what was scratched. Does the Commander have those? Mine is an 07. By scratched I mean the edges had noticible marks and the flat areas had small scratches.
Ya my XK had caps on the lugs :( I use a 19mm for the ones with caps still stuck on and an 18mm for the ones without I think thats right LOL
Using the 6-point impact socket too, right?
dont know about the Jeeps but on some cars you have to remove the chrome caps first, then take off the lug nuts. the caps are only plastic. they also make sockets with a plastic inside that keeps from marring the chrome lug nuts.
Yes 6 point. Isn't 19mm & 3/4 the same?
19mm is slightly smaller than 3/4... but normally doesn't make a difference with 6-point sockets because of the size of the contact area (for what its worth, i use 19mm on my jeep).
