I just changed my plugs. I used the Champion 7318 Double Platinum .040 gap.
I have 55,000 miles and the ends were just about gone. The new plugs really helped out. Smoother running, hope it improves my mileage. .5 would be wonderful.
I will add a pic of the old plug.
I think im going to change my plugs soon. Im currently running Autolite because thats the only brand they had in stock last time I swapped them out. I'll probablly go back to Champion.
I just switched to Champion 7318's for the big ride out west.
Let us know how those plugs work out for you. I might swap those in this weekend.
Well I didnt improve my mileage much, but I have more response to the throttle. Runs smoother.

Its going to be unfair comparison from me, because I finally got around to cleaning my K&N that had 36,000 and a solid year of wheeling stuck to it. Never the less I'll give an update after the trip.Quote:

Isn't that the truth. I ran a comparison a while back that included to tanks of fuel over a 3 day period. I tank was spent 4 wheeling and going to and from Jeepskool. The second tank was back and forth to work with nothing else.Quote:

When I first bought the XK, I was kind of surprised at 30k mile plug changes in the manual. That's different in a world of 100,000 mile tune-up engines.
But... after reading about the 4.7L engine on sites such as this: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/47.html I see it's actually a pretty high performance engine at that. I can see how plugs get eroded after 30,000 miles. It's almost like being back in the muscle car era again.
I spent about $6 per plug for Autolite Iridiums, IIRC. I went with them because of recommendations and longer service intervals. I did cost a bit to do the service...Quote:

My Hemi has an EPA Hwy rating of 18mpg, but with easy driving and rolling terrain I can get about 20mpg. I didn't notice much difference in power or response. Service done at 30k miles.
So the question is do I go with the Champion Double Platinum or Iridiums since prices is about the same here...
There not priced the same the Iridiums are more money then the platinum. Platinum are about 4 Iridiums are at least 8 at least they were last time I did mine.Quote:

I dont think its really going to make that big of a difference which one you go with. If they are approx. the same cost, go with the one that will last longer.
well all the guys putting the iridiums plugs are claiming a 1-2 MPG gain on them plus the smoother idle and so on. The guys just putting in the platinums are not claiming any mpg gains but are commenting on smooth idle and such. This is just what I have read in other threads. I have the platinums in mine and no real MPG gains but smoother idle and so on.
That seems to be a big gain for just swapping out plugs. I wonder how accurate that is.
Smoother idle probably comes in the form of a tighter spark gap. Which can be achieved by regapping the stock plugs.
My plugs looked identical to cico7's. Just a little wear on the electrode which opens the gap. My gaps were out 15-20 thousandths.
I'm not sure how accurate it is just passing on what I have read. If it is true though It would be worth the extra coins they cost. I think there the NGK Iridiums IK plugs not sure I would have to look the thread back up.Quote:

I got to thinking I need to change plugs again so I looked up what I replaced the OEM's with. Turns out I went with Champion single platinum 3318. I can't find how long these should last. I've put about 45,000 miles since then. I suppose I should pull one and see what they look like.
I need to do this over Xmas vacation too. What plugs ended up being best for the 4.7?Quote:
