I wondered if you would stay with the Commander. Glad to see you're trying to.
That's what I thought, "5-6 times a year won't hurt". Ya right. Oh well live and learn. I'm in the market as well. Can't believe the price of the good diesels! Good luck in your hunt.
Careful. You're right at/over the total weight limit with that setup. Especially with gear. Getting the trans rebuilt costs about $2500. Ask me how I know.
Went to The Badlands last weekend again. Finally made it up that rock climb!

Finally had a wheeling trip with no broken parts. However the Commanders' trans...
It did drop some. With the longer shocks the back sits higher than the front. I live with it because of the benefits when towing.
I'll be heading to the Badlands in Attica, IN in a couple...
Had a chance to put them to use today. Very impressed. The Commander was towing at least 7500#, I exceeded capacity by at least 1300#.
Not the smartest thing in the world but I took it very...
Thanks for this thread! One of my Bilsteins broke and they only warranty them for 90 days so I was in the market for new ones. Since my XK is now DD and tow rig these fit the bill nicely.
I...
That's from today? Yikes.
Heat finally broke here. Going to be 75 tomorrow and 47 tomorrow night. Love it!
I'll try it. I'll even put the sticker on, I promise.
Officially hit 101 here today. Dewpoint is upper 60's. Dash read 116 at one point on the way home. Looking at upper 80's the rest of the week.

It's all good. When posting it I was thinking "I'm admitting I'm wrong on the internet". I never thought that happened. :)
I was so sure I went out and went through the motions to tune it. Sure enough it did not say anything about 91 octane. Sorry for the misinformation.
I thought you had to run at least 91 octane when on the tow tune?
Welcome! I'm just over the Mississippi, south of the Quad Cities.
Everything I've read is that ATF+4 IS synthetic.
I'll go middle of the road when I do it. Thanks guys!
Need to change the trans fluid and filters in my Commander. Trans is a 545RFE.
Since ATF+4 is licensed from Chrysler is there really any difference between Mobile1, Royal Purple and say...
Kinda related question, I'm going to drop the pan to change filters and fluid to Mobile 1 or Royal Purple. From what I've read dropping the pan changes about 1/2 the fluid. Will it be ok to have...
And they are? lol
@jercoulter for me.
IMO, if it has been over 60,000 miles since a flush do not flush it. Drop the pan instead. I have no info to back this up. It's just what I'm doing.
Just did mine on the 26th. Mobile 1 75-140
Should be 1.5 qts front, 2.5 rear though mine started running out after 2qts.
Thread revival!
I got to thinking I need to change plugs again so I looked up what I replaced the OEM's with. Turns out I went with Champion single platinum 3318. I can't find how long these...
Well as I usually do I spoke to soon. Talked to a mechanic friend and he said to put some baby powder on the belt. If it kills the noise then it's the belt. Swear to God, baby powder.
So I...
At the risk of speaking too early, I went to the base auto shop and borrowed their stethoscope. I listened to every pulley and the only one that sounded off was the pully on the tensioner. WTF? I...
What's with the trailer? You've got a roof rack! :)
That's about the only thing that goes up on my rack. Once or twice a year the spare tire goes up for a day.
