Excessive-heat warning issued for much of Arizona

Excessive-heat warning issued for much of Arizona
    by Associated Press (August 2nd, 2011 @ 7:38am)

PHOENIX - An excessive-heat warning has been issued for much of Arizona through Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued the warning Tuesday morning. It goes into effect at 10 a.m. and will last until 8 p.m. Thursday.

The warning covers the greater Phoenix area, Yuma and the southwestern desert, much of western Arizona, Casa Grande, and Florence.

Meteorologists predict highs between 111 and 116 degrees, with overnight lows only dropping to the low 90s or upper 80s in the warmest urban areas, including Phoenix and Yuma.

Extreme heat makes the body work extra hard to stay hydrated and high overnight temperatures prevent the body from properly cooling.

The public is urged to restrict outdoor activities, wear light and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.
