    Colockum Wildlife Wilderness trip

My buddy Mike and me ran the length of Colockum road this weekend. It goes from Ellensburg to Wenachee. (In Washington state) It was also a good way to try out the new tires.

    A stop at a crossroads for a map-look.

After an hour or so east from the last photo. The trees have stopped, and it's dry desert here. The rocky road is the same for miles and miles. I doubt the old 4 ply ATR's would've held up on this run without blowing a sidewall.

Heading up a hill from the Columbia river. Somewhere along these roads, we realized the usual pulsing tire slippage sounds that we normally hear while going up such a slope are gone. The M/T's are like gear teeth meshed with the ground, and slippage is pretty much zero.

A bullet riddled car about 100' down the slope. How it ever got to this spot, who knows? It's miles of 4x4 only road to this place.

    Panned back a bit.

    Following a deep ''V-knotch'' canyon.

A marker for the wilderness area at the crossroads of Naneum Ridge and Colockum roads.

The top of the world. A radio site at the end of Naneum Ridge road. It degrades into nothing but a boulder field at the last half mile.

The town of Wenachee laid out down below.

    And, panned back.

The top of the chair lift for Mission Ridge Ski area. Despite being maybe 800 yards away, it's a mountain gear climb to get there from here.

An old radio site building. (Not used anymore)

Camped at the ridge, a few hundred yards from the radio site.

A sunset looking at Mt. Rainier.

Another Rainier shot. I like this one because of all the layers from the foreground to the horizon.

The next day, looking at Ellensburg. Wildfires around Mt. Hood makes for thick smoke. As the moon set the night before, it went from white/bright to dim orange as it went down.
