This is our 10th annual New Year day trip. It's a tradition with my buddy Mike, and some years others go along. My friend Sven rides his Harley weather permitting, and it was in the 40's here, so it was just Mike and me this time.

We looked at the map while at Andy's restaurant, and found a place in this state we hadn't seen yet. (Didn't think there was anything we hadn't) It's Black Rock lake, between Odessa and Moses Lake. Off we went.

This place was full of basalt formations. Ridges, small "Devil's Tower" type "hat rocks" and what looked like old lava wells. The pump in the background was for watering cattle.

Went a ways on what started out as a road, then died in basalt rocks. We went a bit farther until we were above a small lake.

Circled around to the other side of it.

The picnic basket gag shot. We've done this every New Year. Last year, the checkered table cloth and 1950's basket was on a picnic table with 2' of snow on top. I'll have to post a link later to our past New Year Day trips.

As it turns out, Black Rock Lake isn't anymore. Notice the GPS... I guess this is boating in the desert. The GPS thinks we're out in water.
