    Fun with lasers

I was playing around with some of my lasers. I put three together: a 200 mW red, a 250 mW green, and a monster class IV 1,000 mW blue. The blue was dropped back to 10% power except for the last shot. All three will pop balloons, light matches, melt plastic, etc. except the blue one will set fires to anything within a couple feet on full power! Light matches? The blue beast will slice the match stick in half, let alone light the match-head.

The camera was set for 2 seconds, and I made circles in the back yard. The "dots" were from 25' away to 150' away, with the shapes made on the ground and fence at the far end. This is what I do when I'm bored.

The red's beam is hard to see unless there's fog to show it better. The blue and green lasers make beams you can virtually walk on due to Rayleigh scattering of air molecules. (Because of their short color frequency) The air was clear and dust free.

    Hitting the fence at 150'

Breath frost to help the red show up.

Squiggles. Note that they're covering over 100 feet of area away from the camera.

The blue beast unleashed at full tilt Bozo. Notice the back scattering glare. The "dot" is too much to look at even on bare ground. The lit up blue area to the left is a white shed wall about 50' away.

The wavelengths are red: 645 nm, the green 532nm, and the blue 440 nm. (nm = nanometers)
