Kinda related question, I'm going to drop the pan to change filters and fluid to Mobile 1 or Royal Purple. From what I've read dropping the pan changes about 1/2 the fluid. Will it be ok to have 1/2 old fluid and 1/2 synthetic together?

You should only use certified ATF+4 in these transmissions..... Mobil-1 is not recommended and RP says it is, but is not certified.

    Stick with mopar ATF+4. $.02

I used a siphon pump a few weeks ago and took out about 6 quarts and topped back up with new fluid. It wasn't due for tranny service yet but I got a great deal on ATF+4 and thought I would freshen things up because of a few wierd shifts recently at WOT. When I do drop the pan though I will use the siphon to drain as much fluid as possible. I tested the possibility of draining the oil this way but the last few bends in the dipstick tube prevented the drain tube from hitting the oil pan. I will however use the siphon for the diffs when they are due.

I dropped the pan when I changed mine the other day. I didnt bother flushing as i was told it could be bad. So I just added new fluid. I overfilled a little bit and inserted a clear rubber hose into the dipstick and siphoned out a little extra fluid with my mouth.. didnt taste too bad ahah. it was too slow though so I went out and bought a pump to do it. much quicker.
