Did a lot of work on Marks xk today.... front diff fluid, oil change, rear lca zerk fittings etc etc. Then the sun came out and I decided to give my xk some luv'in; installed the rivnuts on the passenger side so I could throw the sliders on next weekend.

Had a THOUGHT to rig my cb/scanner setup, by hanging it from the four inner trim nuts (using STRONGER, longer, hex nuts, for starters) inside the central a/c ports on the dash... but have decided it would still be too heavy AND ugly... so I'm BACK to the drawing board, on a "console-ABOVE-the-console" idea, using sheet steel folded & bolted through the lower console trim, and extend it about 2 - 2 1/2' ABOVE the shifter... or some such...

I know you've seen this post before, but maybe you'd like to revisit the idea of my mounting system/location. It's worked out to be really stable. You could probably still stack your goodies and have them easily accessible.

I had seen that, and it's a nice setup. I worry about Pittsburgh drivers (being hit BY one of them), and have that thing get airborne - especially since I travel with one or more children in the truck quite often. I have a doublestack mounting bracket, that I intended to use in the Ramcharger. I may utilize it in my current idea, and buy ANOTHER one for the RC.

I'm kid-free today (mommy got Labor Day weekend off - NOT daddy...), so I can go back over to Lowes & STARE at the sheet metal for a while. Guy at my church works in industrial HVAC, so he's got a bending jig IN the company truck - we can go to town on some sheet steel!

Ended up getting the defender rack installed a few days ago. Thanks again to both pjmjr and superacerc for the roof rack.

After searching the web for awhile for a side mounted ladder, all I could find were either for Land rovers or some 200$ "specialty offroad" ladder; So I decided to break out the propane torch and make my own. Here are some pics, sorry for the crummy quality:
