The lower radiator screen sounds like a good idea.
If it wasn't so hard to cut and rivet into place, I'd do the same thing about the roof rack ''floor'' I have. My buddy has a stack of surgical stainless steel mesh screens that were used as fish filters in a dam. The shiny SS blocks the sun off the roof and acts like a giant heat sink, which is a great side benefit. We'd have to modify a roof rack at his shop, then the whole thing would have to be truck shipped. Your idea is a lot more ''shippable'' to say the least.
