I like shooting mine a lot and in fact i killed my first dear with it. It's no more accurate than an AK so anything past 150 yds is going to have some variance on groupings and hitting things past 200 yds is known to most only as luck. I've shot other's SKS rifles and with a plain stock and no compensator it kicks pretty decent to the point that it's not as much fun. The action is much quicker than an AK action so if you have ever seen one that has been modified for full auto (of course i've never seen this, i would quickly advise the owner that it's fully illeagal and i don't what are you talking about.........) it is most obscene to view. You almost can't hear the divisions between the shots. 15 rds goes by per 1 full second trigger pull. I really don't own one like this but i have seen it before and it's quite amazing.

The deer i shot with the SKS hollowpoint 7.62x39 round fell in one shot. I hit him behind the shoulders right under his spine. Upon first glance it looked like a straight no nonsense shot right through. There was one clean entry and exit. Upon cleaning out the deer i saw the real story behind why he went down so quickly. He was missing something about the size of a softball worth of tissue, lungs, etc.. and the bullet made a clean hollow cavity of the area. I shot him at about 50 yds in the woods of georgia.

It's a good rifle and not too pricey if you're taking down small to medium size game (Lower south whitetail deer, cyotes, turkey, wild dogs, etc...). It wouldn't be good for hunting western large game like moose, mule deer, etc...

Here's some pics of my very plain AR15 and Remington 700. The AR15 can be had through two websites for $550 dollars. I bought the upper parts assembly and had it shipped to my door no questions asked for about $460 from del-ton.com. The lower (only the hollow shell where the trigger and magazine fit into) is the only part that has a stamped serial number and therefore the only part you have to purchase through a dealer and only costs about $50 at www.AIMSURPLUS.com. Not a bad deal. I can post real links to the exact products if you wish.

Rifiling, I was trying to be creative and go for the James Bond Opening Scene Look

When i get back from Africa I'll post some pics of my SKS, Ruger MKIII Target .22LR pistol, and possibly a few others. I just bought a CZ82 9x18mm Makarov Pistol before i left. Talk about a good pistol for the money. It feels great and is accurate, has cheap ammo and I picked it up for $200 with a synthetic holster 2 magazines and a cleaning rod. It has a fixed inner barrel and that makes it a bit more accurate than many pistols.
Nice arsenal! I deffinately have the 700 and now the SKS on my future own list. The AR is nice and I want one but it's not on the top of my list, I like vintage stuff that are cool. I wouldn't mind having an M1 Carbine sometime in the future (alltho they are hard (and expensive) to find.

I too like the old guns quite a bit. With a C&R (Curio and Relic) liscence you can pick up lots of surplus vintage stuff super cheap (comparitively speaking). You can get Mosinagants for 65-150 dollars, the old CZ pistols are cheap and several others. The advantage is that with that type of liscence you can buy a functional gun off the internet from surplus dealers and it will come directly to your house. You can also find M1 rifles as well. I like the M1's but we still work with them in a training environment in the Coast Guard (boot camp, OCS, parades, etc...) so i've had enough of them. They are nice though. My dad has at least 65-70 different guns but really likes the mosin nagant's for a hunting rifle and usually will take those into the woods cause he doesn't mind them getting beat up. He bought 2 for $89 each last year and changed the stock out and put a nicer safety with a pull loop on the one he uses to hunt ( the stock safety is a real pain to use). .303 British are quite nice old finds.

Yep, hopefully my Nagant will arrive shortly....paid $80 plus change. I was going to change the stock on it for better erganomics, but I like the old look of it. Ok, you have to stop mentioning these other rifles, 'cause i will just keep adding them to my list. LOL......

Sorry. I'll stop at that then unless provoked by others. The nagant has a good kick to it. Especially if left stock/wooden. There are some nice compensators out for it as well as some long eye relief pistol type scopes that work well with it. Ends up as a great hunting rifle. Check out surplus ammo and you can pick up some deals if you watch for them.

Yeah my shoulder felt that kick several times that last outing, but it was a fun rifle to shoot!

I just got some new goodies for the AR15. I haven't had this gun a year yet and being gone i've not had time to mess with it. On the way home i ordered a few parts:
    1. A new magazine with the ability to see how many are left from Magpul
    2. New angled fore grip and rail to attach it. (Also Magpul)
    3. SSAR15 Stock. My dad picked one of these up for me and suggested i give it a try. I've got to find my original trigger guard before i can mount the stock. I can't wait to try it out. Here's a link to a youtube video explaining the stock. http://youtu.be/l0BgLk1i9yY I think you gents may like it.
My next upgrade will be the Bushnell Red dot that is very similar to the current mil spec model and flip up back up sighthttp://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell...iflescope.html. I've already got the High scope mount that will let the red dot coincide with back up sights should the red dot fail. I'm going to remove the picitiny mounted handle and rear sight altogether and am contemplating switching out the fixed front sight for a gas block with rail to put the front flip up sight on. Anyone have pros and cons to leaving the front sight as is and just putting a rear flip up or switching out for gas block and two flip up sights? I'd be interested to hear thoughts.
