Thread: making a 100% bolt on tire carrier?

making a 100% bolt on tire carrier?

i have yet to take the rear bumper fascia off but was wondering if the rear bumper behind everything stuck out enough to try and bolt down a hinge onto it and create a rear tire carrier? either that, or to make something bolt on, that i could create a rear cargo holder (something like the hanson carrier without the tire carrier?).

i would like to try and make something completely bolt on.

im not too worried about having a tire carrier? cause my spare still fits underneath.

That's kind of interesting.... I was recently looking at 4xGuards new rear sliders and was thinking that a bolt on tire carrier could be developed off of the slider design. Extending the tabs upwards and connecting the two sliders together with a cross brace for the main support and then a hinge on one side for a swing away carrier would be pretty sweet. It would also strengthen the sliders when used as recovery points since they'll be connected. ...

I wonder if 4xGuard wants to hire a consultant. .. I have the credentials and a vehicle that I can use for measurements. Very handy with ProE and FEA (but can't do this design work at work without jeopardizing my job.... but do have a "student" license... but I think there's some legal issues there as well). Just a random thought.

That sounds very similar to the one designed by Ross at Getlost4x4 when theywere still in business.
