    Friend's car crash

My best friend and his family was in an accident Saturday. The Grand Marquis ran a stop sign and hit them . The lady said she was going 20mph. She never hit the brakes for the stop sign. One pic shows a beer can and liquor bottle in the mercury's front floor. No word on any alcohol charges. My buddy is pretty beat up but his wife and 10 month old boy are fine. Both airbags in their VW deployed. It must have been a pretty hard hit to deploy the bags when being hit in the wheel, the sensors are in the front. The four passengers in the mercury all went to the hospitol although the officer said he believed a couple were faking their injuries.

Airbags deploy typically between 20 and 25 miles per hour. the damage would tell me as a professional that they were traveling at a speed of more than that however. If they did not brake then there is no skid to measure but a good investigator can figure speed by distance traveled post impact. There is also a black box on board the vehicle that will indicate the speed when the bags deployed.

The other driver most likely requested to be transported to avoid the interview and the officer doing a PBT or breath test. Containers in the vehicle do not mean the driver was drinking but are indicators that alcohol could be a factor.

it is a common misconception that air bag sensors are contacts located in the bumper. the air bags are deployed by an accelerometer that senses an impact at speeds about 20mph. best of luch to your freinds.

Very cool. I know when I worked the streets there were many times that I had to go to the hospital to get the blood draw and then you wait a few weeks for the results before filing the charges.

I was wondering how long it takes for the results to come back.

It depends on where they are done, in AZ we send them to the Department of Public Safety and they process them in order received, they will RUSH if requested but thatis for high profile cases. Some larger agencies may have their own labs but most do not so they have to send the blood out for testing.
