I did the "Sal Weight Method" tonight and have come to two conclusions.....
One......I'm a fatass (thanks SAL).
B..........My bike is also a fatass, needs some weight management. 28lbs current
So, I'm enlisting the help of Matt, if he likes it or not. =P
I need some lighter, grippier, great value tires w/tubeless kit.
Also, anything else to lighten it up a bit.
If you can provide some info on where to "Best" buy these items, I would appretiate the help, bro.

Also Mr. Matt, I want to go to single gear up front like you have done since I don't ever change from 2nd. What do you recomend that is lightweight and affordable?

I just ordered the Stans No Tubes 29er conversion kit for $60 from Amazon today (free 2 day shipping).
Next thing, if you don't use them, convert to 1x9. Easy weight reduction, more ground clearance.
Depending how much you want to spend... might want to look into a SLX or XT crankset. The external bearings really stiffen up the crank (which is good, less flex when you hammer down) and it cuts a lot of weight by eliminating that cartridge bb.
Id have to look up the specs, but from there you're probably looking at a lighter stem & bars; these are normally "boat anchors" on good, but affordable bikes.
Just saw that last post.... what kinda budget you looking at?

Well 1x9 isn't a brand... its a method. The best way to do it IMO is to get a crank (shimano slx or xt), singlespeed chainring (surly or blackspire mono veloce), and MRP x1 chainguide.
....but that'll be a bit pricey. So you can do like I did on my wife's bike (and like I had mine setup till I needed a new crankset ):
singlespeed chainring (blackspire)
bashguard (and bolts)
BBG inner bashguard
