It is possible... however, due to the lack of motivation to be civilized by those on off road trails it has only been documented on rare occasions.

At the end of the summer we got an amazing deal on a pop-up: a used 2007 Fleetwood Niagara. We've only camped in it a few times now, but it's been great. It's high-walled with a slide-out, indoor shower/flushable toilet, microwave, and all sorts of other goodies that have no business being in a tent trailer. GVWR: about 4000 pounds. Other than needing a ridiculous drop-hitch due to my lift and tires, we've just used a straight hitch set-up so far (no sway or equalizer). It's been fine.

I do plan on getting a pop up trailer or something I can put on the front of a flatbed to still be able to bring a trail rig. I have all thru out this last winter going to get 2 tons of presto loggs about once a month; with trailer & cargo about 6k. I'm currently using three trailers with my Commander. This one is military surplus. Shown here I am proud to display it towing my BIG John Deere !!! I'm sure this John Deere must weigh in around 9500 Pd's plus or minus a zero.. or two ...
I cut the back to make a " tail gate " and it now opens down 90 or 180 deg's.
This is my trailer I had for over 20 years and it has been towed in most of the states in the USA. The last time I rebuilt it I added the capability to use my winch ( same one I use on the front and back of my Commander) to pull cars or over-sized items up on it.
This is an exciting trip to the dump. In the 2nd photo I have my " CAT " loaded on the trailer to help push off my trash.

This trailer is used in one of my " other jobs ". I'm afraid to weight it. Luckily most of the time I use, it the terrain is fairly tame.

Having FINALLY taken my first REAL trip in it since buying it last October (Pittsburgh to Buffalo & back last weekend), the only thing I "towed" with it, was a lotta itty-bittymobiles in my draft/wake on I-79 & 90!

I was waiting to get a picture before I posted, but that could take awhile. Anyway, we used to tow our T@B travel trailer, which is weighed 2,000lbs, loaded and was 16' long. Last summer, we upgraded to a 26' travel trailer which weighs 6,000lbs loaded. I don't think we get it that heavy, though.
On websites like RV.net, the "experts" frequently discourage posters from using a Commander to tow larger trailers, such as ours. However, I am continually impressed with how well the Commander does towing our travel trailer. We put a lot of effort into finding a trailer that meets our needs and would be a good combo with our Jeep. I have made several trips over the Rockies and can go as fast as the curving roads will allow without having the engine screaming. Towing in the mountains, I average around 9 mpg and typically get 12 mpg towing on the interstates.
The Commander has the power, torque, and gearing in all the right places needed for pulling heavy loads.
