No, adams right.... that was a brainfart on my part. Back go straight to the front.
Its the opposite for front wheel drive cars. You dont cross the tires coming off the drive axle so the tread gets smoothed out.

Makes sense, this is my 1st 4wd! Ive always crossed the rears and I crossed the rears on the XK. Keep in mind these current tires werent taken care of before I got it, however since then they have worn evenly with the way Ive rotated..

The crossing has more to do with making the tread last longer; it changes which side of each lug is being used to push the vehicle. The front/back action evens out the wear.
