conductive grease? I dunno :p

JBA for the win! I've had mine installed over two years now and not a single issue.

RRO uses Liberty bushings. ... technically a downgrade from stock. That alone is reason for me not to spend good $$$ on them and pay a few bucks more for JBA (I gave Corey a sweet deal and he's not planning on beating them up offroad as much as me).

In addition I found RROs quality control to be sub-par. My first set of control arm bushings separated on me in less than a year and resulted in metal on metal grinding. They "hand picked" a replacement set to send me (after many emails back and forth) and although "better", they were not made to proper oem arm width like JBA. See more here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f67/upper-control-arms-jba-rro-2011945

And Jacob beat me to it, dielectric grease is not conductive.

You guys aren't being very helpful...... you were suppose leave me with some way of justifying to myself that I could save 25% with RRO and still be getting a good product...... I've got nothing to work with here.

I'm very disappointed in both of you!

Add to that the fact that JBA recent spent a lot of time optimizing their arms to work even better with the OME lift, preventing the knuckle from hitting the strut at full extension and still maintaining alignment. ....

This is one area where I believe the money for JBAs product is well spent. ... and im not one of those JBA phanatics who think everything they sell is the best thing since sliced bread.

Lol you're welcome :p

So the check engine lights on again but the 'check gascap' warning is off. I am guessing its an evap leak? How serious is this? Can I put it off until next week?

If the engine is running fine it shouldn't hurt anything until you get it fixed next week

Core XK
03-23-2014, 09:29 AM
Yeah I mean I dont notice anything different. He cleared the codes a few days ago but it came back so I figure it has to he an evap leak. With work I cant get my buddy to find the leak until next week.

My 2010 Owner's Manual says to change the spark plugs at 30k so I will order them as well. It also says to check Trans/Diff fluids and Oil Filter.

My buddy thinks it is a small evap or gas leak from the line leading to the engine. He 'smoked' it or whatever to find it. Do you guys think this will be covered under the 36k mile warranty? I am only at 33k. I am afraid it won't with everything I've done to the XK? Thoughts?

He will fix it but rather me get it fixed for free....

Matt
03-25-2014, 05:05 PM
Where exactly does he think the leak is? Towards the engine bay?

07JeepXK
03-25-2014, 05:22 PM
The dealer "should" fix it under warranty if that's something covered under the warranty. Lifting your XK and putting on bigger tires was not the cause of the issue your currently having. However if you take it in I'm sure they will want to take care of the recall which will result in you losing 4 low

If the leak is on the lines near the gas tank they can "blame" it on non-dealer install of the gas tank skid (though i know we didn't damage the lines, it is an 'out' for warranty since the tank as R&R'd).

Core XK
03-25-2014, 06:20 PM
Well last time I took it in they didnt do the recall nor did I mention it. Matt, im not exactlty sure where he thought it was but I can ask. He cleared codes again so ill wait for the check engine to come back on and maybe have my dealer just let me know ......

If the evap leak is up near the engine compartment, it should be covered under warranty. If it's on the gas tank it may be worth trying, but the pink paint and purple hearts may make them ask questions..... lol in that case you can get a new line and we'll toss the lines on one day here.

Core XK
03-25-2014, 06:38 PM

After so many restarts without condition to set the DTC it will turn off.

We smoked the XK and it was just leaking directly from the gas cap. Replaced gas cap again, and the leaking is gone. We will see if this was the true source.

It was my day off today and I was really bored. I attached a screen shot of the MS Excel worksheet I made for the Jeep's future mods.....lol

So we all know I had the small issue with the gascap leak. However, I just had the XK inspected. To sum it all up there were a lot of problems. I decided to cut my losses and traded it in on a 2011 Dodge Charger SRT8. I have to say this nearly 500hp is insane and neck jerking. I will post pics soon.

Id still love to do ridealongs at RC and beers at Matts if im still welcome..

So its time to do some maintenance. Matt, when you get time could you please post the links or part number for rear brakes/pads and spark plugs?

I suppose we could change fluids? Do you think we should do just transmission or diff fluid too? I have 38k miles.

Just a quick update. Hope everyone's summer is going well.

The EVAP nightmare has come to an end. It has been 2 weeks and no more issues. Dealer got on the phone with Chrysler and kept the XK for 2 days. Did not charge me anything and gave me a free rental.

Anyway, I just recently got a nice promotion working in Center City Philadelphia so no more driving the XK to work! I will only be driving it 3 miles to and from the train station every day lol.

Next on the list is ordering some maintenance items (To Matt's house of course), and then sliders/front guard later this year or early next year. Other then that, just 275/70s will be the next big ticket item. Even with the promotion, I have to move slow because we are starting to house hunt in NJ so a lot of "Play" items are going to slow down. I'd prefer a home! lol
